Due to the threat of an impending second lockdown, my partner and I chose to squeeze in a staycation at Hayling Island after a wonderful trip in August 2019. Obviously due to Covid restrictions, many businesses have been hit and/or are closed so we struggled...to find a place to eat that met our budget and expectations with regards to the menu etc. We opted for a meal at The Ship Inn and what a decision! We were warmly greeted on arrival, with everything in place for Covid such as NHS track and trace, hand sanitiser etc. Despite not being sat at the best table (between the kitchen and the back door), we both felt the food was incredible. They were obviously very busy judging from the number of dishes flying out of the kitchen so it took a while to get our meals but they were worth the wait. I chose the smoked salmon followed by the steak, ale and mushroom pie and my partner had the crispy squid and open sweet potato ravioli which were all so delicious and definitely worth leaving a review for. We would love the recipe for the ravioli!More

I have eaten here 4 times, in the last couple of months, had one bad experience, one OK experience, and two very good experiences. I have chatted to both staff and management, and am happy to sat things now look good. As I am a...steak lover, I put in a special request, for a non menu item (fillet steak) for my birthday meal, and was pleasantly pleased when the Manager called me to say they could do this for me. Warm welcome, shown to table, orders taken. The steak exceeded expectations, I told our server I could happily have eaten another one because it was that good. My compliments to the establishment, Manager and staff. You made my birthday meal for me. Thank you.More

We recently stayed a week on Hayling Island and passed The Ship Inn on the way onto the Island. It sits in a great spot on the estuary, just before you pass across the bridge onto the Island. It's got a huge car park which...always seems to be busy as it's used by loads of people to go for walks, watersports etc. We booked online which was very straight forward and turned up at our appointed time a couple of days later. They have a huge outdoor seating area overlooking the water which was busy when we were there because the weather was good. It was all very covid-secure. We had a great table upstairs in the restaurant and both of us had really tasty meals - I had the beefburger and my husband a pie. The staff were all excellent. Afterwards we went for a lovely walk along the side of the estuary (the tide had started to go out) and around the back into Langstone and then looped back to the restaurant. The weather was very kind to us which was helpful. This is a lovely place to visit and we had a great time.More

After a week of cooking whilst on holiday we decided on a Sunday Lunch. We chose here. The setting was lovely bu the side of the sea. Pre booked on line and asked for a window table and got one upstairs in the restaurant. We...both had the Pork came with all the usual trimmings. Generous tasty portion neither of us could eat a pudding at the rnd. Staff very warm and friendly and service excellent. Covid wise excellentMore

They have adjusted well to new rules although maybe a few teething issues. The food was very good and the service was adjusting to the new ways of working. Steak was amazing and cooked exactly as asked! Can also recommend the chicken and chorizo!

Very impressed all round. We were meeting friends so this was equidistant. On arrival everything in place for covid (NHS test and trace, hand sanitiser, one way entry and exit). Staff all welcoming, friendly and good service. There was a good choice of food and...we all enjoyed our lunches. Would definitely come again. The sizes of the fish and chips and scampi and chips were very generous and tasty.More

Don't Delay Get down to The Ship Inn This Sunday for a smashing Sunday Lunch. If the Sun is out to get a seat outside and soak up the relaxing atmosphere and view. Situated just before the Hayling Island entrance parking can be a bit...busy due to the popularity of the place. Friendly busy staff on hand to guide you through the COVID procedures and the one-way system in the pub. once seated we were looked after brilliantly by the staff, service was quick, the drinks very refreshing and the food was absolutely excellent. We have always said we would visit this pub over the yrs visiting Hayling island with the kids and this weekend being child-free after 9 years was our chance. We will be back for another long Sunday lunch.More
