Came here with my family. Booked a table for 6 and enjoyed the decor around the table. We all had the carvery which we all enjoyed very much. Also fantastic service. Would recommend highly.

It was very busy as expected and they offer a good menu as well as the carvery. Service was a little slow to start with and we were short on time so we Opted for the carvery for speed. There was a choice of 3 meets and it included vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. The cauliflower cheese was... More

Just had a nice family (9 of us!) dinner and we were all happy except a couple of the 'old folk's who mentioned that it wasn't as hot as normal maybe due to 'luke warm' plates. Can't win them all eh! Very tasty though so thanks.

A great evening, food was spot on as usual. Helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended to anyone. Looking forward to my next visit hopefully soon.

Stopped off on our way home for a bite to eat here. The staff were friendly enough but the food was not a good standard. We both ordered burgers with an extra side order of onion rings to share. The onion rings were greasy with no flavour to them what so ever! The beef burger was certainly not gourmet, as... More

Just popped in on the way back home after a day in Portsmouth looking for something light, it was beautiful and sunny so a salad seemed a good idea. We both chose the prawn and avocado and wandered into the large garden, it was only just after 18:00 and already starting to get busy and on a Wednesday, guess it... More

My cousin lives in Alton and he had heard that the roast was good, so booked it for the 4 of us on a Sunday. When you walk in, the pub has an olde worlde feel about it and quite a small bar area in front of you. Our drinks order was taken and we were shown to our table.... More

Went for dinner and food was mediocre. Service was friendly enough but the meal was disappointing. Not sure would visit again.

Went there now it's run by Hale and Woodhouse (who make Badger Beers) - some refurbishment has been done, but it seemed the same as the last time we went many years ago. Overall nothing that imaginative on the menu - typical pub food. They do steak night on Thursday two for the price of one. Overall it was OK,... More

I have been visiting the Hen and Chicken for a few months now and always found the welcome and service first class. The carvery is good value for money even though the cost has recently gone up by £1. A loyalty card gives some extra savings though. The interior has an olde worlde charm which I find attractive.

Thank John S
