A party of us went there last night and took the precaution of making a reservation as we knew that the pub could be busy, upon arriving we found our table and settled down to order drinks while looking through the menu and after discussing it most of us decided to try the carvery as two of our party have... Traditional country pub with restaurant & carvery. Many tempting items on the menu, but decided on the carvery. I had the nut roast (even though I am not vegetarian) and it was delicious! My partner had the roast beef. Plenty of fresh vegetables - creamed leeks, roast aubergine, carrots and roast potatoes and lashing of lovely gravy. Fantastic value, and... More

This place is ridiculous. Totally ridiculously good food and great, great value. I thought the beef topside on the carvery was lovely and pink and meltingly soft. The creamed leeks were, well, creamy and smooth. Decent Yorkshire pudding and lovely homemade stuffing. Help yourself to plenty of gravy too. I thought it was exceptional value. To my mind, unbelievable value.... More

The staff here are very polite and the roast carvery is ''OK'' no more, no less. What the veg lacked, the roast spuds made for. Paid less for better, but would return.

Nice pub and restaurant, reasonably priced, although sometimes service can be a bit slow during busy periods. Good basic pub lunch food.

The Hen and Chicken was so warm a beautiful log fire ablaze in the ingelnook fire place. The staff were very welcoming and the service was just right not over the top but also didn't leave you for ages. Always with a friendly smile. The food was scrumptious, the portions were ample and very moorish. The meat was cooked to... More

Boring and bland food, very disappointing in all forms it all looks so tasty and fresh and it was all tasteless... WHY??? Again waxy, undercooked potatoes which are my current pet-hate, thin commercial gravy and bland and dry tasteless meat. I think it was maybe and off day, plates were nuclear to the touch and I think many people would... More

The Carvery looked very tempting but upon actually eating it I have to say it was bland and tasteless which was really disappointing as I was expecting something more rewarding. To be honest I would say it was blander than a Toby Carvery and that is saying something. Will I be back? Not unless you pay me! Harsh, I know... More

Stopped for lunch on the way home after a holiday. Excellent menu choice, served quickly and presentation nice. Good value for money. The staff helpful and friendly, would definitely recommend. Dog friendly with nice beer garden and an antique shop to browse in at the rear!
