Thornbury Castle and grounds are lovely but in need of TLC and careful restoration to compare with similar establishments. The staff are professional and attentive and provided an excellent lunch service. The lunch menu was presented with two choices per course, which could restrict some diners. The food was well presented, cooked well and flavoursome, although somewhat short on quantity.... More

The service was very good, and the main course was very good too. But it seemed they tried a little too hard on the dessert and appetizer. It was all tasty, but just not to the level you think it's going to be. It is very formal, however, which was fun to experience.

We were here in June, the food was fresh and delicious. High tea was a beautiful event with perfect pastries and sandwiches. Dinner was a feast of flavours and creativity. The only letdown of all the meals we ate, was breakfast. It was a lot of money for what you got and nothing amazing about it. We stayed at the... More

My wife and I visited for a meal for our wedding anniversary 7 years ago, and we loved the meal so much I thought it would be a good choice to go for my wife's birthday. Whilst I have to say that the receptionist could not have been more welcoming, the service in the restaurant could not have been more... More

We visited this wonderful Castle for a cream tea and were very impressed. The Scones were fresh and warm straight from the oven, and the assortment of pastries were sweet and delicate almost too good to eat.Slices of Strawberry, whole Raspberrys and Blackberrys decorating the tarts. A fine selection of teas were available to compliment the scones. The service was impeccable and... More

We were 4 for lunch having been recommended by a friend to show this historic place to our NZ friends. On arrival at 13.00 hours we were asked to sit in the lounge which had plenty to look at; just as well as we waited...and waited as did another couple who eventually stopped a waiter who kept passing through the... Very disappointing. Lacklustre sandwiches in very thick bread with uninspiring fillings, tiers of cakes that were not very special, rather dark interior. The cost was about 4 times what the food was worth paying for, so not good value.

Lovely surroundings and helpful staff but the Afternoon Tea experience was not up to the hype. Doorstep processed bread, inadequate amounts of filling and the cakes weren't up to much either. Never been served cold Christmas pud as a cake before!
