My family and I came here for Sunday lunch to celebrate a special occasion and although the pub itself is very picturesque, we left feeling pretty disappointed in the overall experience. A bit of feedback to management: - We waited over an hour and a...More

Went for a family birthday meal, eight of us in total. Staff were polite and friendly and landlord was very accommodating especially as we needed two extra places a very short notice, nothing was to much trouble. Food was excellent and large portion sizes, went...More

Only popped in for a drink so no comment on food. A good choice of ales and well kept. First time I've paid £4 outside London. Landlord and staff friendly. Another case of 3.5 stars, average to very good is a big jump.

Only 1 star because you can't give less. Visited with a group of friends on a Friday evening. Had pre booked including letting landlord know in advance which main course everyone wanted. Arrived at 18:30 for 19:00 meal. At 20:00 everyone served main course except...More

Just had Sunday lunch with family and while the food was delicious and all home cooked I'm afraid the service was poor with us taking second place to the regular locals. A bit more attention and it would have been 5 stars!

This is how pubs used to be; basic , slightly scruffy, amateurish. That said the food seems to be homemade, reasonably well cooked in the way our mums used to do it , and well priced. On the stormy night when we dropped in ,...More

We went with friends to this pub last night as it was Valentine's day and we wanted to try somewhere new. We weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, freshly cooked to order (so you know you will need to wait) and local. I had rack...More

There isn't a train directly from London into Gt Dunmow. The closest would be Chelmsford or Bishops Stortford
