We visit here a lot as it's the only dog friendly eatery in the town. It has the potential to be great unfortunately it's pretty inconsistent. You can order the same thing from the menu and dependant on the chef, the dish will vary quite a lot. The menu is pretty good and prices reasonable however, the execution is not... More

This place is very poor! I lunched here with a friend and the food we received was well below par. Half of our order was forgotten about and when we asked the staff they didn't really seem to care The decor is lovely but don't be fooled that's about as good as it gets.

The steak was cut very uneven, the middle was very tick and the outside thin, so the sides were dry and burnt and the middle raw and full of fat. When we brought to the waitress attention she put a big frown on, that she did not even try to disguise. Overall bad food and service. Over priced also.

The service is amazing and food is stunning. Visited today and thought I was ordering a cheese ploughmans but it turned up in a sandwich (the menu does state a sandwich so completely my fault) They saw my disappointment (without me saying anything) and I said it was "fine". They wouldn't accept that and took it away and brought me... More

I first visited this place as a child, probably 40 years ago or so. In those days it was a special treat to visit when my Dad had saved up enough Luncheon Vouchers (something from the days before taxable benefits in the UK), so it amused me to try lunch when working in the area. The place has certainly been... More

Having had a poor meal with friends previously I thought I would give Saracens another chance. In a way I wish I hadn't bothered. Although the place was very quiet it still took around 10 minutes to even get a drink. I chose fish and chips for safety, but it arrived with the fish on top of a row of... More

Had we booked then the score would have been average but as we popped in on the off-chance I have given this venue a very good. The staff were helpful but you did need to chase bits and pieces lke the promised jug of tap water, starters. Some dishes were better than others. My partner's roast lamb and my daughters... More

Visited late on a Sunday afternoon as was pleased to see roasts were still available. Couldn't fault at all. Generous portions, quality fresh ingredients and well presented. Would happily call in again if I was passing.

We had a very nice time. The food was lovely and staff very polite and friendly. The room was basic. Bath room could have been cleaner and needed to be a little more modern. Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. A lovely town with lovely old buildings. We shopped at Braintree outlet nice but not a... More
