We were at a loose end so met up with some friends and went out for supper. The service was slower than slow and the woman behind the bar was so clueless, we had to tell her what drinks she had in the fridge. We ordered the sunday roast to have outside. The children loved the play area which suited... More

Have visited The Duck several times in last three years, as a couple, a four and as a lunch group. We could always rely on it for a warm welcome, good service and a super meal, whether a la carte, or their set menu good value lunch. But oh dear, how it has changed. Two of us arrived early for... Never been here before. I had the Platter....omg! It was huge and so much variety. It had prawns, smoked salmon, brie, ham (thickly sliced) and the best scotch egg Ive ever tasted with salad, pickle and bread! Delicious. I wont need to eat again today! Hubby had the Steak and Ale pie and said it was the best pie he... More

A beautiful setting, a lovely summer evening and The Duck has so much to offer. Such a shame that the owner, for some reason, does not let his customers have the meal that they choose. I didn't want a starter, just a main course. I couldn't do that I had to have two courses. Take a leaf out of The... More

We visited here for lunch and were very disappointed. The location is lovely, and I'm sure that it is a great pub for sitting in the beer garden in to have a drink in the summer, however I wouldn't recommend eating here. We had the duck spring roll starter (suspect this was brought in frozen, and was slightly burnt when... More

Last went to Duck many years ago but saw sign on A414 and decided to have lunch. Received a warm welcome from the new manager (started this week). Good pint of Doombar. Menu would describe as classic pub food. We chose steak pie, scampi and ribs. Portions were huge and very good. Service was good. Have read recent reviews since... More

Absolutely awful visit to The Duck for Fathers Day. Rang earlier in the week to book a table for 5 and when we arrived we'd been allocated a table for 4 with an extra place stuck on the end. We asked to move but were told they had no other tables free so we had to make do. We were... More

I was very disappointed with my meal some my chips were raw -apparently a problem with the fryer and I asked fora hotter Chilli con carne which apparently they can't do (why not?) - but actually the chilli was so bland it was tasteless not even seasoned with salt/pepper let alone chilli The beef was good quality and the portion... An old pub with plenty of old style atmosphere. It's out of the way to find but worth the effort. A selection of lagers and guest beers. Varied enough menu for the age range and tastes with a good portion and very tasty.

From reading other reviews on here the Duck seems to be losing longstanding customers. Have been visiting the Duck since the late 70's, never again !! From the unfriendly and less than welcoming new older gentleman on the bar to the waitress taking umbrage when told food was luke warm politely in a quiet and discreet manner no future visits...
