Had a very nice roast beef lunch with all the trimmings. Having read other reviews, I can't really agree with the rude staff comments as they were all very pleasant. Yes, you may need to queue at peak times to order food at the bar, but we didn't notice any unreasonable queueing during the several hours we were there. We... More

Found a nice little spot in the window to enjoy half a pint of the finest lager whilst taking shelter from the rain. A slightly modernised 'old man's pub' - but I'm not old yet!

We visited this place a few times during our stay. The bar staff are excellent. Very efficient, happy to chat when they can and are genuinely interested in their customers. The menu choices are good and varied and prices are very reasonable. Portion sizes are generous and it is difficult to clear a plate. The food is generally very good... More

We only went here because we were a large party and hoped we could be accommodated. Eventually after sorting ourselves into manageable groups...for a party of 26 this is no mean feat...we were told we would have to "stop being noisey" by a young waitress who can only be described as "bolshy". I can only assume she is the daughter... More

So lets start at the very beginning, a very good place to start, by telling how it really was. 26 people no you were a table of 30! in the middle of August in Southwold, seriously, did you ever think you could walk into any establishment in Southwold & get seated when you wanted and, all together, the answer is... We were here on a beautifully sunny afternoon and entirely enjoyed sitting on the tables outside watching the world go by the beautiful houses and greens that are such a feature of Southwold. The pub was very busy but even so we did not have to wait long for our cheddar cheese ploughman's and smoked chicken and chutney sandwich. I... More

Visited twice last week for lunch. We both had fish and chips on the first visit - fresh, well cooked and a big portion. On the second visit we both had a prawn salad, this was amazing. Probably the biggest portion of prawns I have ever seen. Lovely fresh salad and side accompaniment of coleslaw, potato salad and beetroot. As... More

We seem to use this pub now in Southwold as we can always get a table and the food and beer has always been excellent. They do not start food until 6.30pm when you have to queue at the bar, can be a slow process as only the landlord takes orders, so start queueing and 6.25pm and your get your... More
