A proper pub, busy with Friday night drinkers and diners when we visited, serving good pub food (burgers, scampi, pies, and so on) with really nice staff and excellent service. What's not to like? I'd love a local like the Chequers - it was very busy and buzzy, so it seems it's a popular village pub. Definitely worth a visit... More

Very popular pub that was recommended to us by a local. We booked a day in advance and got the last table for our group of 5. The portions were on the small side and the quality was rather mixed. The duck and the monkfish were excellent, but the linguine were drowned in a sauce that could have come out of... More

This was a real find, and a place to remember. Local pubs often exploit the fact that they’re the only place around, but I would really have been pleased to have been served this lunch in a posh hotel. There was lots of vegetarian choice – often there is only one such item, and your “choice” has been to be... More

Our first full day in Norfolk and we opted for the Chequers being the nearest Inn to our lodgings.Asked if we could have a table for two and told that there was just one not reserved right by the bar. The room quickly filled up with others who had obviously reserved and a pleasant lady took our orders that were... More

Went for evening meal. Owners were really friendly and chatty. Meal was lovely and the service was good. Meal was worth the money. Went back for a drink next day with our 2 dogs. Sat outside in the sunshine. Staff were more than happy to fill our water bottle for dogs.

Visited twice recently. Had the most tender rump steak ever and slow cooked lamb. Good service and friendly atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

We went there on the Sunday before the May Bank holiday. Arrived at seven in the evening without booking but were luckily found a table. Not exactly sure how it it is in the Tripadvisor list for Fakenham as it is quite a way from the centre. Staff were excellent. Four of us all had different main courses and the... More
