Myrtios Restaurant at Hersonisos Heraklion Hersonisos, Crete Island, Greece. In the central square of Old Hersonissos, there is Myrtios, a stone built traditional tavern. The family owned restaurant welcomes visitors to join the warm environment and taste the authentic Cretan recipes. The restaurant operates for more than 22 years. You MUST give this authentic Crete restaurant a try if you’re in the Hersonnisos area.
The staff are so welcoming and friendly, giving amazing advice and knowledge on all dishes served, freshly produced cuisine and very reasonable prices too!!!
We’re planning to revisit the area once again next year after an amazing fortnight here in Hersonnisos and will DEFINITELY return for several meals here once again.

Awesome night out!
Was recommended by a friend to go to old Hersonissos for a night out on Monday as there was dancing and music. COVID seems to have put a stop to dancing but we still had an excellent time.
Our host Dimitri was great, chatted and passed the time while it was quiet, found some cards to keep the kids busy while we enjoyed the afternoon.
Come the evening then taxi after taxi arrived and the square got really busy, although a lot fewer people than 2 years ago apparently.
Food was super, large portions of well cooked Crete and Greek food, the kids loved it and a small number of Raki’s were provided. Service was top-notch and the whole afternoon was one of the highlights of our holiday.

Our Hotel Village Heights recommend this tavernna in the village and it was the best choice ever. This was our 25 years anniversary and we had a fantastic meal here. The owners greeted you personally and treated you as a VIP. The food was genuine Greek/Cretean food and was really the best we had on our entire trip. The staff ( family) were so friendly and genuine we became good friends returning another time to attend a Geek wedding there. This is a great restaurant with really great genuine and very friendly owners and staff. Try it out as you won't be disappointed. Costs are middle not too dear but not budget, but the ambience is just brilliant like in a movie!

Beautiful food. Perfectly cooked. Service was a bit poor. One of our children had to wait for food due to a mix-up with the order and what was made which meant that our daughter had to wait until everyone else was finished. By the time her food came she didn't want it which subsequently meant her food near went to waste. It was only after a bit persuasion that she ate it. When the bill came, we had to question it which resulted in a €7 decrease in the bill.

Unfortunately this wasn’t one of our favourites. Budget would be a good overall description.
Don’t get me wrong the food was nice, but not in a great quantity, which was reflected in the price, and as we asked for the bill the usual fruit and rakki didn’t appear.
We were 5 in the party and around 7:30pm the place wasn’t buzzing. There wasn’t the usual bread rolls, instead they suggested a garlic bread to share. It was however quite nice. For most we’d saganaki which got a good review. Then pork belly, small and thin. A chicken gyros for our younger member, okay again a small potion size. I’d a nice Creten salad as the main but the extra pitta breads never arrived. Then a souvlaki which was a little fatty and a schnitzel which got a good review.
It would fit a lots of folks budget and requirements but we like a little more from a meal it just didn’t have that twist to pull you back.

Dimitri, Kostas and staff were amazing hosts always welcoming and happy to see us. The food was amazing at a very reasonable price and they were always very generous with the complimentary raki. 😉🤪 The atmosphere was excellent with traditional Greek music and entertainment.

We came in as a group just looking for some food after we finally made it to Crete. We stumbled across Myrtios and not only did we find some of the best food we’ve ever eaten, but we met the most incredible people along with it.
The day we showed up happened to be the owners birthday, so we were able to be apart of the celebration! He shared his cake, drinks, and treated us like family by sitting with us, sharing stories and getting to know us.
Afterwards Pavlos (our server and I believe the owners nephew) gave us recommendations for clubs, bars and things to do! He even exchanged contact info in case we needed anything.
We had an incredible time visiting Greece between the sights, excursions and clubs. But dinner here was honestly our favorite part! I cannot recommend this place enough! When we come back, Myrtios will be at the top of the list!

Went here twice on the first occasion it was amazing, my wife had pork chop and the taste was divine so.soft and cooked to perfection, I had kleftico which was nice we sat there all evening and had a really nice time, the second time we thought we had better book as they were really busy so we walked from koutalfari and booked a table . When we got there that evenings there was no table for us and we had to wait 30 mins , we both then ordered the pork because it had been so good , when it came both chops were so.overcooked and tasteless we couldn't eat them, We were both devastated !! Only chops but they had been amazing before ! , anyway the waiter offered to refund 15 euros which didn't even cover my meal but we marked it down as one if those nights , would we go again, maybe but only if all the other places were full .

Our family went for dinner to celebrate my aunts birthday. We ordered a dish with lamb, Greek salad, calamari and eggplant. Everything was simply delightful. The food speaks for itself. I can really tell the restaurant owner and staff genuinely care about their customers. It was great getting to know the restaurant owner since the business is family owned. This place is certainly hidden gem and I’ll definitely be coming back.

We stumbled across the square and saw this rustic looking restaurant in the corner. We asked for a table, seated immediately.
The service was quick and friendly, nothing was too much.
The food came out quickly and was delicious.
The staff were attentive throughout the meal and could not be faulted.
We had such a great experience that we chose to eat here a further 2 times in the same week instead of our all inclusive hotel.
We look forward to eating here again when we next visit.

The dishes are excellent, the young waitresses are smiling and very welcoming, the menu at €35 for two was perfect accompanied by a good bottle of wine at €30
Gargantuan and very very good, impossible to finish our plates, I even had to refuse the dessert kindly offered by the boss!
So good that we forgot our bag of authentic and inexpensive souvenirs bought in the beautiful shops near this pretty square! 🫶

This was such a great experience! I say experience because it was more than simply an amazing meal. Pavlos (our server) spent time with us making recommendations on what we should do during our time in Crete. We also celebrated the owners birthday with him. The entire staff was amazing, and I really felt like we were friends by the end of our meal.
The food itself was also great. I had the mixed BBQ plate and it was a great way to sample various meats cooked in the traditional Cretan way.

We visited this taverna/restaurant in April 2023 and returned twice more as we enjoyed it so much. Everyone who worked there was so welcoming and made our visits really enjoyable on aLL occasions. The food is excellent and we both very much enjoyed the spit roast lamb. Better make sure you’re really hungry as the portions were very generous! It is in a most attractive setting, tucked into the corner of Hersonissos old town square. The tables are all laid immaculately with pretty checked tablecloths to each one. At the end of each meal we received complimentary raki which I was assured is a good ‘digestif’. We will certainly return here on our next visit to Crete.

We had a fantastic evening and I can't praise this place enough. So much so that we came again the next day. 🙌 Delicious food, very accommodating staff and traditional, warm ambient that makes everyone feel welcomed. The family that run the restaurant are generous, they take great care af their guests and make you feel special.
If you are anywhere nearby Hersonissos, stop by the old town and have a great evening here.

My husband and I came to this restaurant after reading the positive reviews. It was a short taxi ride from our hotel (Creta Maria) and was so good we returned two days later. The food is traditional home cooked Greek Food, the setting is beautiful and the staff are so friendly. It is such great value for money too. It’s how I imagined sitting in the street eating dinner in Crete would be. The owner gave us complimentary Raki and yoghurt with honey on both occasions, and even a bottle of their own wine as a gift on our second trip. The restaurant was a highlight of our holiday and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
