Japan West is a traditional Japanese cuisine restaurant located in the heart of downtown Findlay, Ohio. We serve fresh sushi and traditional Japanese meals at our sushi bar and the front of the restaurant and prepare your meal right in front of you in the back at our Teppan tables if you prefer to dine Teppanyaki-style.

Excellent Sushi

I have eaten here several times since moving to Findlay. I definitely recommend it. The sushi is always fresh, the short rib appetizer is phenomenal. And the restaurant is always busy.... A great sign of good food

Best sushi in Findlay

If I'm going to get Sushi, I get it here, it tastes fresh. There are sometimes good things on special and plenty of other Japanese cuisine to choose from. Love also getting exclusive Dietsch's ginger or green tea ice cream! Peter has been an awesome waiter!

Great Sushi, Even in Ohio

I recently moved to Findlay, OH from Washington State. I was really worried about finding fish that I could enjoy in Ohio. I worked for a Hawaiian company in Washington, and travelled there often. Although this sushi is not the same quality as much of the sushi I have had, it is still very, very good. Definitely the best sushi I have had in this part of the United States. I also enjoy the grilled salmon. It is not overdone like many places grill salmon around here. My girlfriend likes the udon as well. Their wasabi is mixed well and tastes authentic. I end up eating here every other week, sometimes every week.

Expecting is high but sorry!

On our way back to Toledo from a great trip to visit Ohio caverns. Almost passing Findlay then we are decided to have a Japanese for our dinner. My friend knew a restaurant name Japan West is run by Japanese so we went there for a authentic meal. Service is impeccable, but our meals! We had some appetizers: deep fried oysters( too dry),grill large squid (ok!) and seafood pancake ( good). Pork cutlet curry rice is fair, the sushi and rolls hadn’t have any outstanding but the price- wooooo.

Mediocre Tempura

I have been there many times for lunch and I had always had Chirashi, which is great. I had this time, wanted to have tempura and I was disappointed. Its variety was lacking, three shrimps, shishito peppers, Japanese pumpkin and sweet potato only. I will have to order Chirashi when I visit the next time.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere

Japan West is, in my opinion, downtown Findlay's best restaurant. I do not eat sushi, but my son and his girlfriend love the sushi. My friends who are Japanese all like to eat at Japan West, and we love to have celebration meals there. Don't miss out on eating here!

went there twice since ive been here . lunch does get crowded so plan on sitting on the stools good service and food. fresh, and tasty. a decent amount of sushi. good menu. didnt have any problem getting a table for dinner but it is busy. best sushi around town.

Anniversary Dinner 2019

We recently celebrated our anniversary and decided we would visit Japan West here in Findlay, OH to celebrate. This was our first visit. Japan West is located on Main St. Driving by, it always seemed a small place. However, once we got inside found that the majority of the floor space located in the back contains the hibachi tables which we had no clue about. Don't know if you can just walk in for the hibachi service. Probably would be best to call ahead about that. We waited for a few minutes at the doorway and then were seated. Seemed they were short-staffed that night. Since it was a weekday in the holiday season, it didn't bother us. The wine list was unexceptional and looked like they have limited bar service. I wished they would have offered sake or other oriental drinks. We're always game to try something different. We both ordered a pinot noir. We ordered pork dumplings for an appetizer. They were very good -- juicy and not "doughy". I ordered several pieces of nigiri sushi. It tasted fresh and flavorful. Can't remember what we ordered for the main course was named but my wife's entree was essential a duck hot pot. I had shrimp with rice. It all was delicious. We passed on dessert. Overall, it was a good experience. Our waiter was not very talkative and seemed rushed. Food was good. However, our waiter's attitude put a damper on our enjoyment. We will return to try some of the other offerings and see if the service is any better.

Excellent Japanese Hibachi

We visited Japan West for the first time last week. There is a sit-down restaurant and sushi bar in the front when you walk in, but you can also sit down at a hibachi grill in the next room. As we waited for our chef, we ordered Japanese beer on draft which was very good. There are lots of choices, but I opted for a mixed grill of chicken and scallops. John was our chef, and he was great. I asked him if he learned in Japan, but he told us that he originally learned from the Japanese in Detroit when the Japanese automakers came over. John has been with Japan West for 24 years now, and he is extremely interesting. We started with vegetables which were excellent. Then we had our meats, and finally our garlic fried rice which was very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We would definitely return for a visit. I would love to try the sushi!

Very fresh

We ate here on Saturday night. We didn’t have reservations so we sat in the front area. We had sushi and appetizers. All were very good and tastes fresh. Our server was very good but he was to busy for all the customers he was taking care of.

Great hibachi

Great decor and atmosphere, Higher style place. Excellent Hibachi. The ribeye was very good as well as the other dishes, the cook handled my shellfish allergy while still getting others their shrimp and scallops. I really wish I could tried the scallops they looked amazing.
