When I realized that Ted Turner is the co-founder of Ted's Montana Grill, I had to do three things: (1) research Turner and his interest in Bison, the cornerstone to his restaurant chain's menu, (2) learn what Bison tastes like and (3) plan to have...lunch at the location at 191 West Nationwide Boulevard during our week-long visit to Columbus, Ohio. Turner is an American original, an entrepreneur, media mogul, sportsman, environmentalist and philanthropist who created CNN and TNT and is America's second largest independent landowner who owns 45,000 Bison. In January, 2002, he co-founded Ted's Montana Grill with restauranteur George McKerrow Jr., who founded Longhorn Steakhouse. Their venture now numbers 39 locations in 16 states. They serve more Bison than any other restaurant in the world, introducing protein-rich, nutrient-dense Bison meat to America's table. The restaurant represents classic saloons of the 19th century where cattlemen and land barons found relaxation after a hard day's work. What does Bison taste like? Think of the best steak or burger you've ever eaten. The flavor of Bison can compete with it. It tastes similar to beef but has a slightly sweet undertone that sets it apart. It isn't gamey but is incredibly tender with fewer calories and less saturated fat than beef. It also is richer in proteins and better for a healthy heart. It is non-allergenic, easier to digest. For today's health conscious consumer, Bison meat is the natural choice for healthy eating. So my wife and I set out to see if Bison is as good as advertised. For starters, we had grilled shrimp on ciabatta toast and Caesar salad with romaine lettuce, parmesan, croutons and Caesar dressing. I chose Bison meatloaf with gravy, garlic mashed potatoes and buttered carrots. Very tasty. A nearby diner recommended the Avalon burger with Bison meat, Gruyere, blue cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, roasted garlic aioli and baby arugula. But my wife opted for the Absolute Best Fish Sandwich with lightly breaded cod, lettuce and chive caper tartar sauce on a cracked wheat bun with kale salad and fresh-cut fries. For dessert, we shared an apple pecan crisp, sliced Granny Smith apples with buttery cinnamon sugar and nutty crunch of the oat and pecan topping served hot from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Ted's Montana Grill is open from 11 to 9 Sunday through Thursday and 11 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. Be sure to add Bison to your menu.More
Slow service although there were only 7 customers in the restaurant. It took about 50 minutes from the time we arrived to when our food showed up in the table. Free cucumber slices were provided, thank you so much! Overall, our food was prepared perfectly!...The French fries were very “hard” and not as expected. Our waitress was very friendly and customer oriented! Recommended!More
We visited Ted’s while we were in town for a gymnastics competition. Having been to a Teds in Atlanta we were super excited to visit! First off, our server could not have been nicer! We noticed a lot of fruit flies when we say down...and thought it must’ve been their pickles. Nope, we counted more than 20 during our time there. We mentioned this to our server, he agrees that they must be attracted to the wine. Our food was lovely, but the flies really spoiled our experience and we ended up taking most of our food and wine back to our hotel.More
Stopped in recently to try a burger, and I'm glad I did. I had the Avalon, which had cheese, blue cheese, and bacon on it. Very tasty. They put arugula on it instead of the usual lettuce which provided a nice zip to it. It...wasn't a cheap burger, but well worth the price. I'll be back for sure.More
I am deeply disappointed with our experience here. This has been bothering me for awhile and I knew I needed to share. I am very pregnant and I have to be careful when going out in public. When we came to the restaurant, barely anyone...who was working was wearing a mask. This restaurant does not prioritize the safety of its employees and customers. The server we had was not wearing a mask and refused to wear one when asked. We got over that. But, he also refused to let us have another server who was wearing a mask. This was so infuriating to deal with such insensitivity to the condition of a pregnant women. We should have walked out immediately. Also, I ordered a steak well done that was over thirty dollars and it was still bleeding the first and second time I sent it back. This is inexcusable. I hate to say this, but here it goes: we did not tip well. I don’t think wearing a mask is too much to ask for a pregnant women. Also, the server did not seem concerned with getting the virus or spreading it. Another thing, we tip 20 percent when the service is just okay. But, when our server goes above and beyond we tip a hell of a lot of money. If our server at Ted’s Montana Grill showed more concern and showed more compassion, we would have tipped him a great deal of money. We will never come here again. Here are some restaurants with excellent service and food: Canoe, Bahama Breeze, 770, Stoney River. These restaurants cook your food right, care about their staff and customers, and go above and beyond to give their diners an amazing experience. DO NOT GO TO TED’S MONTANA GRILL IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR DO NOT WANT TO GET COVID. I was lucky I didn’t get Covid and I will never risk my family’s health like this again. Thank you for your time. Please stay safe out there. Thank you also to the restaurant workers. We appreciate all you do. Please wear a mask to protect yourself and others. Now, I will get off my soapbox.More
Bison cooked to perfection! Reintroducing this meat to our nation is a welcomed welcome back. It's packed with flavor offers meat eaters a choice other than beef. Ted's does it right and their menu is well thought.
I had the chicken chopped salad. The lettuce was warm and limp as if they had put it under a heat lamp or something. It was the worst salad I'd ever had. I had water to drink. When they refilled my glass, they gave me...water that was room temperature and I had to ask for another glass of ice.More
We visited this location of Ted's before a Columbus Blue Jackets game and we were seated pretty quick for a party of 6 on a busy night. Our server was very good and attentive. Love the free pickles they drop off when you arrive (always...look forward to them when at a Ted's). My burger and onion rings were great. The bison nachos were not very good nor was there much vision on them. One of our party had a beef ribeye that didn't have much marbling and was tough.More
Happy to see a ted montanas in my trip to Columbus. I enjoy the bison filet and got it again. Cooked to perfection. My wife got the avalon beef burger and loved it. She especially enjoyed the bun and being able to get fries and...onion rings as her side. The bread we got wasn't the freshest but that flawed was overshadowed by the excellent service by taejon. Been to 4 or ted montanas across the United States and service is always fair to poor. Not this time. Thanks taejonMore
Our group enjoyed a wonderful meal and our waiter was fantastic. Great food quality from the appetizers to the Sirloin Steak. The wedge salad was the best I've ever had. The sirloin steak was perfectly cooked and tender. Mixed drinks were perfectly balanced. One of...the best meals I've had in a while. I can't wait to return.More
The pickles! Yum! Onion rings were perfect! Burgers, perfect. Kids steak was even delicious! We loved Teds Montana Grill in Columbus and really wish we could eat there more often. It put the cherry on top of a great trip to Columbus!
I enjoyed a wonderful Salmon dinner and drinks before a Columbus Clippers game. I was suppose to meet friends for dinner before the game - I was late because of a work commitment and later met them at the game. I ordered the salmon dinner...and it was fabulous. The service was amazing-Dylan was the bartender and my server. He was very knowledgeable and while the bar was crowded he took great care of everyone.More
We were walking the Scioto Mile and Arena areas of Columbus, and stopped here for lunch. Ted's was very cool inside, everything was clean, and the service was excellent. I had the Chicken Skinny Dip burger. It comes without the bun and was plenty filling.
Came in for dinner, and knowing restaurants are struggling to be staffed I was realistic that service might be slower, but even with the staff being busy they were on top of everything! The green and hot bison burger is still making my mouth water...and Seth was fantastic! Both managers, Katie and Taylor, never stopped moving but still made sure to stop by and say hi to every guest. They should have their own comedy routine! We would have been back for the service alone, but the food was a bonus!More
