Cleveland has it's Little Italy, which is filled with all sorts of Italian food options; however, take a ride a little further and stop at Gallucci's. A Cleveland staple for over 100 years and still going strong. The prepared foods are fantastic as the lines will show you during the warmer months' lunch scene. The meat & cheese counter has about every imported item you could want and the staff is more than willing to assist and answer any questions from recipes to giving samples, etc. You also have the bakery items, frozen section, spices, herbs, oil, wine, etc. and don't forget the pepperoni bread.

Gallucci's is really two somewhat related things, a gourmet Italian food store and a take-out place (also Italian) for lunch.
Let's start with the store. Talk to any serious Italian cook within about a 50-mile or so radius and they will tell you to come here. It has a fine assortment of Italian foods ranging from cheeses and meats to pasta to prepared meals to wine. Have a hankering for prosciutto, pancetta, or parmesan? Come here.
They also have a nice array of prepared foods such as frozen ravioli, tomato sauces, and the like. Again, if you are cooking Italian, even in a hurry, come here. As a gourmet Italian grocery store, this gets an "A".
If you are in the neighborhood there is a popular takeout counter with Italian foods and daily specials, all freshly prepared. There isn't an area to eat inside the store, so either take it back to work or use the outdoor picnic area (although wait until it's warmer than it was in January when I visited). I like the food I got, but it's hard to rate something that is essentially a casual take-out place attached to a grocery store.
There is an OK sized parking lot right next to the building, but a larger gravel parking lot just steps across the street.
This is the place to come to if you are trying to make that special Italian meal at home or if you just want to try something you probably can't find at your local grocer.

Enjoy eating a hot or cold meal for lunch here. On Wednesdays they grill food outside for the lunch rush (burgers, hot dogs, ribs, etc.). They have a lunch sandwich special, which includes a sub sandwich, chips and a 20-oz drink of your choice.
Highly recommended!

We've been going to Gallucci's for over 40 years. The staff is great, the food selection is unsurpassed.
When we went today I found out they changed suppilers for their Italian sausage and it wasn't a change for the better. We bought a pound and tried it tonight....after one bite we threw it out. I was horrendous, no flavor, extremely salty. It tasted like bad kielbasa, no fennel or any spices added. It's like they rough ground the pork and that was it. We won't be buying Italian Sausage from them again. It sad they didn't look at the repercussions from the change

As former Clevelanders we stopped in to have lunch and to browse the excellent cheese, meat, and specialty Italian food offerings. My muffuletta sandwich and my wife’s wedding soup were just what we needed. But there is so much more. Fresh meats and cheeses, pastries and pasta, canned specialties, wines and frozen foods ready to take home. Places like this are getting hard to find. We were so pleased that Gallucci’s is still going strong.

I came for lunch and to pick up cheeses, dry meats and cookies. Lunch buffet was almost empty, so I got pizza. Pizza was ordinary, and most of the store was packed with foods from outside vendors. Perhaps my expectations were too high, I expected to purchase all the home made dry meats that hang from the ceiling, and chunks of cheese cut off the giant cheese hanging from the ceiling. Everything they had I could have purchased at Giant Eagle. There were very few items that were made from scratch on the premises. I asked for a loaf of semolina bread and the lady at the bakery didn't know what it was.

Gallucci's is an institution in Cleveland. It's last location is where Jacob's Field was built. (now Progressive Field) In any case, the selection of meats, cheeses, olives, or any real Italian foods is available here. They also have a relationship with a Prosciutto company in Parma Italy. You can also have a sandwich made from most of their meats/cheeses on various types of their homemade breads for lunch. (To go, or to eat on the premesis...although, you probably want to make sure it's nice outside, because the dining area is an outdoor shelter right along Euclid Ave.) I would venture to say that most of the people who actually eat there are local employees on a lunch break. 95% + of their business is regular grocery. One of our Christmas traditions is to shop at Gallucci's, pack of great stuff in a cooler, then head to one of the restaurants in Little Italy for a leisurely lunch. The next couple of weeks we enjoy "grazing" at home with a nice bottle of wine, and all of the great "real deal" Italian foods.

The food was fabulous for all 4 of us adults. I suggest the chicken piccata. It’s lemony and tender. It’s available in 2 portion sizes—one with one breast and one with two breasts. Service was great. Atmosphere somewhat romantic if you looking for that sort of thing. Quiet enough for 4 of us to communicate without talking loudly. We made a reservation at 5:30 on a Sunday evening. They close at 8 on Sundays. That was perfect. Appears to be family owned. Would definitely go again. Check out the bakery across the street and toward the heart of Little Italy. It offered a variety of sweets.

Having been raised on the west side of Cleveland, but now living in Georgia, I truly miss places like Gallucci’s and the foods they carry. Just walking in you can’t help but be overwhelmed as to the selection of items they have. Whether you want octopus, prosciutto, canned goods, Vino, or bakery…they got it. They carry a dolce Gorgonzola that is amazing. I always load up on the guanciale as it is very good. This cured pork cheek is the key ingredient in carbonara, pasta alla gricia and amatriciana. The staff has always been helpful and gives you that old world feel. Please don’t let this treasure fade away. It’s a part of Cleveland that needs to remain.

99% of the time I support the small/family business. But, I can’t support this business any longer. Most of their staff make you feel like they are going out of their way to be available for you.
I’ve been made to feel bad for buying the wrong olive oil (why stock it if you don’t recommend it?), using prosciutto in a recipe that they didn’t think should incorporate prosciutto, and incorrectly pronouncing the type of olive I wanted to buy.
8/10 times, it’s a negative experience. Their products are not unique and can be found at other local shops or supermarkets. They have officially worn me out.

This is from an italian girl, born and raised in northern new jersey, with the rest of her family roots from the bronx, ny. This place was stumbled upon while I was with my husband at Cleveland clinic. We drove around the local area and I about lost my mind when I spotted this beautiful wonderland of a place. We went in and I teared up. My family and I went a little hog wild. Good thing we budgeted our spending otherwise, we would have blown it all on this magnificent place. Everything we bought was amazing!! Next time we go back to Cleveland, this is the first stop. We will try their subs this time. Their take and heat meals were phenomenal. The service was excellent. The prices were really good too! Kudos to Galluccis!! Thank you for making a hard trip a little easier!!

The frozen meat balls are not home made. They are the same meatballs that you pay $1.00 per 1oz cooked. It is more like a regular grocery market rather than a Italian specialty market.
