The food is okay, nothing special. - -lacks flavor --- The owner (presumed) was incredibly irritable with some patrons during a busy lunch time. So set your expectations low, and you'll be pleased.

We were looking for a new place to try, after reading some reviews we decided to give J Gumbo's a try. It was within 5 miles of home. 7PM on a Saturday ad the place is empty and only one other came in while we were there. We were offered a couple samples to try to determine the heat level.... More

On entering the building, the menu was posted on the wall. Took awhile to figure out what and how to order. Very nice people work here, but the food could be better. Much of it seemed prepackaged and missing the excitement of food from New Orleans. Prices seemed a little high for the amount and quantity one received.

The food is prepped well ahead of time, and is kept in buffet warmers. The main entree generally was good, but the rice was dry and kind of ruined the dish as a whole.

J Gumbo is proof that a great start up restaurant does not always translate into a good franchise. This is not NOLA creole and less than average Cajun cooking. The original Gumbo a Go Go in Louisville was a huge success but this really just takes the Taco Bell / Chipotle approach. A handful of items mixed up 3 dozen... More

We are regular of this J's by Reed Hartman Hwy. Our all time favorites are Voodoo and Drunken Chicken. Check out their promotion deals from time to time, they really save you good $!

J. Gumbo's is a welcome establishment, good friendly simple service, good food at a good value and a chance to write a critic on the walls to let everyone know how you chowed down. There's a variety Cajun style cuisine ready for you to eat. Just place your order on the counter, the food is already prepared hot and just... More

The entire menu seems to be narrow variations on a theme: a bowl of meat and seasonings with optional mediocre cornbread. There were almost no vegetables in the place--neither as side dishes nor mixed in with the stews. The redeeming feature was the food was cheap, since we had a coupon discount.

I went yesterday as I was craving New Orleans to Go but missed them for lunch. I was greeted by a very nice man as I entered. I ordered etouffee and he asked if I'd had it before. I said "no". He was so nice he insisted I try it first and then he had me try the drunken chicken.... More

I started making J Gumbo's part of my weekly tradition. One of the few places around I can walk in the door and be greeted like they know me personally. The service is fun, and food can be as spicy (or bland) as you want it to be. It's also one of the least expensive places for lunch, so a... More
