We’ve been coming here on and off for ages if we’re in the area and the Cafe is really really nice, but…. I think they are missing a trick, the dining area is huge, nicely done out with tasteful furnishings and a fabulous outdoor area but they just don’t seem to have a very extensive menu anymore for the facilities available to them. I also agree with other reviews that it seems a bit of a rip off to have to pay extra on top of £7.95 for a ciabatta roll for a salad garnish or a few chips it makes it quite expensive. Also the menu is very small, no cooked meals beyond a quiche or steak pie. Get a full English on and a few ‘family favourites’ you’d make a killing ! The other odd thing is you can’t order the salad garnish or chips till 11:30, I can’t imagine what they’re doing that’s so busy they can’t serve those till 11:30, there’s no ‘change over’of menu going on that I can see. It’s such a lovely , busy place and quality ingredients that if they did Sunday lunches they’d do so well, as I said before , full English , family favourites etc maybe even an occasional bistro night ! Of course we’ll still visit , it just baffles us as to why it’s such a basic menu, my husband is a chef and he says it everytime ‘they’re missing a massive trick in here’ !

Overpriced and disappointed at visit just made. I had a fruit scone which was too dry as only issued with two portions of butter and it was too dry even with the jam provided. Husband had a cheese and ham toastie which he said was tasty but I felt totally overpriced at £8.10. To have small portion of chips to accompany it was a further £2.65. Really. !!!!! Won’t have any eats here again and will refrain to coffee only, and go to Whitegates cafe instead.

The main area of concern is the ridiculous pricing they now have on what is a very restrictive menu. £8.10 for a cheese and ham toasty (and a handful of crisps) is not good value. They charge the same for a Quiche, which comes with a garnish and some chips. It costs £4.00 on its own. You can’t seriously be charging £4.10 for some chips and a few salad leafs. The lady at the till was totally disinterested, and we both had trouble understanding her mumbles. We’ve been coming here for years, but we’ll give it a miss now and go to Whitegates instead, where value for money means something. I had to return the coffee on our last visit. I can put my finger on when things changed at your restaurant - I hope you can as well and rectify the issues before you have an empty room.

Very disappointed with our gardeners breakfast. £28.50 for 2 including tea. First of all my partner is allergic to eggs, but the staff would not change the eggs for an extra item on the plate. The eggs I got were cold poached eggs. I returned the eggs and they returned slightly warmer. Tye bacon had obviously been under a heat lamp for some time as it was like leather. The toast was very soft and barely toasted. The sausages were the size of chippolata sausages and looked pale and undercooked. The pot of baked beans were the only thing on the plate that were hot. The garden centre looks fab with its new counter and service area, but the food is terrible.

This used to be lovely place to come. Since it’s been taken over it has really gone downhill with the price and quality. I ordered an Italian sandwich and was expecting something nice for the price. What I got was basically a service station style sandwich, it was just missing the plastic container (At least I was saving the environment which is the only positive). In the lovely small print if you want garnish with a little bit of coleslaw it was an extra £1.20 if you then also order chips it’s £3.50 for what I would call a regular size but f you went to a McDonalds. The one thing I will say is the staff has always been friendly and that’s the only positive I can give.

Absolutely dire! The service was abysmal with bad tempers behind the counter, the food( actually I ended up with a cold croissant that was as dry as a lump of concrete!) the coffee was cold and thrown onto a saucer , the dining room was loaded to the gunnels with tables waiting to be cleared, though while I tried to eat a rock hard croissant someone did finally start to clear the tables. The prices are sky high and the actual garden centre would fit on a postage stamp it’s so small and crammed with exorbitantly high products. Then the ladies loo, Disgraceful, with cleaned loos, hand drier that refused to work I leave the rest to your imagination, basically don’t go there.

Been here twice in the last two days as weather has been rubbish. Both times late in the day so didn’t expect much. First day had scones and coffee both scones were very fresh and moist. Day two and lemon drizzle cake and another scone very nice. Staff very welcoming and all areas looked very clean with the tables constantly being cleared and wiped down. Definitely recommend this place.

Sadly our favourite coffee shop in Thirsk, Yorks Tea Rooms was closed, we decided Thirsk garden centre was a convenient alternative. Whilst I was not expecting the quality of York Tea Rooms, our choice of food was extremely disappointing, I ordered a coronation chicken sandwich (listed as our own recipe coronation sauce, or words to that effect) the sandwich arrived in supermarket style, bland tasting bread, not quite on a par with Greggs, the coronation dressing was too runny for my liking, tasted as if it was made with mayonnaise and a touch of curry powder, nothing to make it stand out as “our own”(no. Raisins, or mango) the chips tasted as though the fat that they had been fried in had not been changed for a while and was close to being rancid, to the tongue the chips appeared as though they had been cooked some time before and kept warm........the green tea was fine but at £8.50 for a sandwich they need to up there game

Price of 2 scones to take away was £3.10 each in a bag with no butter included - same price as eat in. That makes them more expensive than Betty's fat rascals to buy. Not even the best scones by far. Shan't be returning.

This place has been a 'go to' venue for our family for many years. Disappointed today to see that the portion sizes have been reduced, and the prices seem to have gone up. Smaller plates make it look like you are still getting a lot but the salad portions are reduced and chips (which used to be included) are now extra. £40 for lunch for 3 (and we only had 1 course each) makes this an expensive family lunch out.

If you’re vegan then don’t bother. You will be charged more money to eat in the restaurant than non vegans. We usually spend well over £100 each visit and have probably spent thousands over the years. We will never come back to this garden centre.

First visit to this garden centre and we arrived late afternoon desperate for a coffee & cake. The cafe was still open & we got coffees, a delicious carrot cake & a piece of brown & blonde brownie. Staff were lovely & a little error on our order was swiftly & generously resolved by Leo. All the staff we met in cafe were lovely. Unfortunately we didn't leave long enough to thoroughly explore all garden centre but I know my friend bobbed back following day, she said to buy some garden furniture she had seen, but I reckon it was for another slice of carrot cake. We had a puppy with us and were very grateful dogs are allowed in garden centre & on patio area of cafe.

Been here several times and always had good coffee and great scones. My wife’s cherry scone this time was disappointing in that the cherries had been diced into indeterminate slivers rather than the large pieces of cherry previously experienced. Not quite as good ! In spite of this, I’m giving a full five stars because the scones and coffee are still top class - possibly best in the area. The cafe area was clean and tidy and serviced regularly and staff are friendly and helpful.

Long time since I’ve been to the cafe, was massively disappointed and will not be returning or recommending it. Ordered two drinks, two lots of sandwiches, chips to share and cake each. When sandwiches arrived nearly asked for a refund, how can you possibly feel it right to charge £5.50 for a tuna sandwich in two very cheap slices of brown bread and wilted cress thrown on the top, disgraceful, cake was ok but not the best I’ve had there. Nearly £27 in total. What a rip off

We've used the garden centre as a nice easy lunch spot for a number of years now and the ability to get a good bowl of soup, a tasty scone or a salad ticks a lot of boxes for us. Visited yesterday and our daughter really enjoyed broccoli and cheddar soup whilst we were blown away by the HUGE ham salad. Good surroundings, beautifully clean, tables nicely spaced and a lovely ambience.
