We visited today as a family of 4, with our 4 legged family member also. What a little gem of a find, purely by accident after a long walk for the mam tor sunrise (cloud rise today) our breakfast plans fell through(we forgot our gas for our stove 🙈😂) I am so glad we did. I am gluten free and the choice was fabulous, very well catered for. I myself had the smoked salmon, requested poached eggs rather than scrambled on gluten free toast, with a lovely wedge of lemon. The salmon was beautiful, very good quality, my daughter wants to come again so she can have it. Eggs were cooked to liking and were lovely. My daughter had the cheese burger and said it was lovely. My other day had the winter vegetable soup with warm crusty bread and said it was beautiful. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast bap. We tried the bloody orange and fig cockle warmer and it was lovely. Staff were all very polite, and helpful and happy to answer any questions. The cafe was clean and welcoming. The prices are what you would expect for a tourist area. Salmon, egg, toast £11.95 and I got a lovely generous helping of salmon Burger was £12.95 again on par with most places. Breakfast bap, egg, sausage, bacon £8.95 Soup ?£7.95 Pot of tea £2.95 Hot chocolate £4.15 Cockle warmer?£3 We will definitely be "forgetting our gas" again so we can have another lovely visit here.

The breakfast and coffee and service are great here. We have been coming back to this cafe for years. I was a big fan of the sausages here so the owner very kindly put me in touch with his supplier so I ended up buying bulk sausages for my trip home! Many thanks for the tip off and we will definitely be back again! Thanks, Damon

Delicious homemade food with great service, the perfect find on our drive through the Peaks. Despite the cafe being very busy at 1pm when we arrived we were assured that a table would be free in 5 mins, and it was. We ordered a combination of hot pork sandwiches, fish finger sarnie and BLT baguette, all with really tasty chips on the side. All freshly prepared with a delicious mixed salad on the side of the baguette. The staff were friendly, attentive without being over bearing. We had a wander around the village and then picked up coffee and cakes to continue our journey as they sounded delicious. We weren’t disappointed! My son loved the Millionaire’s white hot chocolate (and millionaire’s slice to go with it) we also had a couple of normal coffees, a delicious pecan brownie and a ‘fresh from the oven and still warm’ Bakewell which was perfect. There are still a couple of huge pieces of flapjack to enjoy later in the day 😉

Me, and 2 other friends went to this place as a take out for lunch - simply chips. We waited for about 20-25 minutes, to be given a frankly terrible portion of hips each, in which we had all found hairs in. I, decided, against my common sense, to spend a pound extra to have cheese on it. The cheese was not especially ON the chips, as much as stuck to the take-out box, almost completely missing the chips altogether. Overall, this cafe is terrible, and i would never reccomend it to anyone.

Dear ‘Mobile36558498029’ At Three Roofs Cafe we take a number of precautions to ensure that foreign objects do not come into contact with our food preparation area or into contact with the food we serve our guests. On very rare and exceptional occasions, accidents can occur whereby all precautions have failed to prevent this happening. Having this happen with 1 dish is very rare, but it can unfortunately happen. The chance of finding 3 separate hairs in 3 separate dishes would seem almost impossible. If this matter had been drawn to our attention, which it most definitely wasn’t, it would have been resolved for you immediately as we treat issues of this nature very seriously. The fact that you did not draw this, or the wait/cheese issues to our attention either, yet took the time to create a Tripadvisor account with no ‘name’ specifically for the purpose of leaving us this review, would lead us to believe that this is a fictitious account of events. Kind regards Adam - Manager

This was awful, wish we'd gone elsewhere, we were moved from the spacious table we chose because it was a table of 4, and we were two, we were sat down on a table of two cramped in the corner with another man placed next to us. The table of 4 we originally sat at wasn't touched the entire time we were there and was a very obvious attempt at the manager trying to capitalise profit at the detriment of customer service on the off-chance another table of 4 came in. Shocking. My partner ordered at the counter where the tall dark haired manager who looked like he should be selling second-hand cars rather than working in a cute country village tearoom rudely jabbed and upsold her to the point where we payed £15.50 for two teas, a sandwich and chips. He then ordered her to "make sure the menu was placed back on the table". The chips came out stone cold, they were changed fairly promptly with limited apologies. Hot chips? Not that hard. Infact, harder to serve cold chips if they're "fresh". The man seemed to think the overuse of "thankyou, cheers, thankyou, cheers" would distract us from his terrible service and hospitality. It was rather embarrassing and an wholly unpleasant experience. Avoid and don't be a victim to this guy's terrible attitude and solely money-making business, no passion at all.

Unhelpful staff probably because the owner runs place with an iron fist and whip. Owner very unaccommodating when we asked if we could have a roast beef sandwich to takeaway even though it was on the eat in menu. We paid £41 for 3 sandwiches, 2 drinks and a cake. A complete rip off. We chose to takeaway thinking we could sit outside with our 2 spaniels on chairs and tables without menus. Sadly we were told to move on as we gad only paid to takeaway and these tables were classed as eat in. Again, complete rip off. Food was average at best, wish we had gone to the visitor centre cafe over the road. Better priced, more welcoming, room for dogs inside. A smile coats nothing. Wish the owner at The Three Roofs Cafe realised that. We understand that tourists aren’t always welcomed but in a place like Castleton, the town wouldn’t exist as it is now without them. Reminder to self - stay in Staffordshire Peak District for a better experience.

Ordered 2 bacon sandwiches & 2 sausage for takeout. The tall dark haired man with glasses who took our order told us to wait outside for our order, in a very rude manner. I agree with the previous review where this staff member makes you feel unwanted as soon as you walk in because he is very miserable. It cost £18.00 for 4 bacon sandwiches. The tiny amount of bacon on the sandwich was undercooked, fatty & tasteless. The sausage sandwiches were tasteless also. Stinks of very cheap food they charge you top price for. The man who served me gave me 4 sachet of brown sauce & instructed us to put this on our sandwiches outside in the cold. We won't be going here again and I don't recommend this place to anyone else either

Had lunch at the Three Roofs Cafe and left feeling a little underwhelmed and ripped off. We ordered 2 milkshakes and 2 baguettes and the bill was almost £40, we had to double check the menu prices as we thought we must have been overcharged. The food was nice but definitely not worth that price tag. Also the service was not very friendly, we didn’t feel overly welcome and felt the man serving had a bit of an attitude. Wouldn’t return here.

Called in for breakfast, had full English which was presented lovely. Unfortunately the whole dish lacked flavour and the bread barely toasted. It all felt like it came out in a rush rather than everything being cooked a minute or 2 longer. Nice hot pot of tea and lovely to sit outside in the sunshine.

Dear RachJ1973 Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your experience with us. I am happy to hear that the service and presentation of the food was good, but disappointed to hear your comments regarding the toast and lack of flavour of the dish itself. We appreciate all feedback and I have passed this on to the kitchen team, as we continuously look to improve our dishes wherever possible. For future, please do let us know at the time if there are any issues and we will always do our best to rectify any problems during a guests visit, as we want to ensure they have the best experience possible. We hope your choose to visit us again on your next trip to Castleton. Many thanks Adam - Manager

Group of 4 people, as soon as we walked in we were told where to sit, rather than being able to choose for our selves, which we would have preferred. We order 2 chocolate muffins, 1 brownie, a jacket potato and 2 soft drinks and 2 waters which came to £33. The food came out quickly and was nice, the jacket potato could have done with a little more filling though. Inside was nice and clean and well presented.

Stopped in for a coffee and light snack, never again at this cafe. One cappuccino was extremely bitter, scone was overcooked and dry, coconut slice was more or less flavourless an the crumpets were over toasted and hard around the edges. Brought the problem to the attention of the owner whose reply was you have eaten some so cannot refund you that but will refund the cappuccino as s gesture. Needless to say we will not be returning and definitely not recommend.

Dear Terry, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent visit to our café. We are truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience, as we aim to ensure that all our customers enjoy their time with us. We regret that the quality of the items you ordered did not meet your expectations. Your comments about the cappuccino, scone, coconut slice, and crumpets have been thoroughly reviewed. On the day of your visit, our coffee and coconut slice were prepared to our usual standards, and our crumpets are typically toasted as most of our customers prefer. Our policy is to address any concerns immediately to provide an opportunity to rectify the situation on the spot. When you raised the matter with me after your meal and once your guests had left, almost all but a mouthful of the scone had been eaten, with the cappuccino relatively untouched. I explained that I was grateful to you for raising the matter with me, noting that for future to please let us know straight away so that we can replace or change the item and allow you to fully enjoy your experience with us. I explained that I would be more than happy to refund the cappuccino, however, as a business it is very difficult for us to take appropriate action once a dish has been been almost fully eaten, to which you agreed and fully understood. It is now very disappointing to hear that you also did not enjoy the crumpets or the coconut slice, as this was not raised with myself or the team during your visit. Once again, we appreciate your feedback and hope that this explanation helps clarify the situation. We hope that you do give us another try when you are next in the area. Kind regards Adam - Manager

Just spent a lovely afternoon in the Three Roofs Cafe for my wife Helen’s 50th and eldest sister Melanie’s 70th birthdays. Please ignore any preceding negative posts about the previous manager. The new manager, Adam is a top bloke and couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a great afternoon. We had the nightmare combination of guests consisting of one vegetarian, one vegan, two gluten intolerant, me and an American. The Roofs catered for all of us. I had a homemade steak pie chips and mushy peas which was really tasty. For dessert we had three different types of scones, one vegan, one normal and two gluten free, all eaten with gusto. There is a full range of barista coffees although we all mostly drink Yorkshire tea and our American family member had a perfect Macchiato. At the end of it all we gave our own shop bought gluten free and vegan cake to Adam who served this up to us on their own platter with candles inserted and lit and he started the happy birthday song for us to join in. All in all a very lovely afternoon made all the better by the superb new manager Adam who with his attentiveness wants to showcase his wonderful and polite staff and the best cafe in the scenic picture perfect village of Castleton. Perfect 5 stars. And a special thank you to Adam. Your enthusiasm to reverse some negative comments mainly directed at the previous manager is commendable and much appreciated by a grateful birthday party 👍

This is a lovely little cafe. The choice on the menu was interesting and varied, and the food was very tasty. However, if you’re vegan or have an allergy to dairy and need alternative milk beware….they charge an extra 80p for it. This is most I’ve seen anywhere, making their soya latte a whopping £4.30.

Called in today for a hot chocolate, there were 2 of us, one adult and one child and was met with a very rude response. An hour before closing told that I couldn’t sit in one of the many empty tables even though we were only having drinks as it was near closing and therefore take away only. It was raining and cold outside so this was not an option. A couple stood up to leave and told us to sit down so the person serving allowed me to stay however clearly unhappy about it. Whilst having drinks other people the ordered food in the cafe which obviously meant they would be there longer and were not met with the same reception. I have never felt so unwelcome and left as soon as I could.
