Wow! The food was certainly fine dining. The chefs can be seen working from the restaurant and everything seems well organised with no noise or great fuss from them just beautifully crafted dishes delivered in a timely fashion. Very hard to choose a favourite as they were all so good! Well worth a visit - we will be back.

A really incredible experience. Firstly, I should highlight I have gluten and dairy intolerances, and the entire menu was adapted to ensure I could eat everything (all 7 delicious courses!). This aside, the mackerel was phenomenal, and the lamb was unlike anything I’d had before. For it to be locally sourced, and presented to such a high standard, we couldn’t have been more impressed. The open kitchen was an added treat to see everyone carefully plating up each dish. This on top of the fact they were so accommodating for my allergens. Home made gluten free bread, gf+df shortbread, pear sorbet, and vegan horseradish cream. I could go on at the wonderful adaptations made to the meal so I could experience everything. We will be back, and I couldn’t praise it more highly.

As regular visitors we know how exceptional the food is here which is why we booked it for a private party for my wife’s 40th birthday. We had the whole place to ourselves, 40 people being served the best locally sourced food created by Mark and his team and brought to the table by the lovely Abi and Kirsty. Having a menu created just for your event is something special in itself but having a team you know so well look after all your friends with such care and attention so that all of them mention it made the evening unforgettable. We also hired the upstairs space for a band and watched the sun set over Ulverston while working our way through the extensive bar selection. Once again Mark you showed why you are one of the best in the business, you deliver the perfect creative dining experience with a personal service that restaurants throughout the country can only dream of achieving.

Been here a few times now, and each visit has been an absolute treat! I enjoy the set menu which is a unique experience to Ulverston, each course is delicious as well as being beautifully presented. The kitchen is open so you can watch the works of art being created by the Owner (Head Chef) and his team. The staff are attentive and welcoming, I like that you arrive at 6:30 ish and the five courses are spaced out nicely, making the evening relaxed and there’s no feeling of being rushed, we left around 9:30. The evening menu is the perfect treat for any special occasion! We have also been for lunch which is equally as enjoyable, we had flatbreads which were freshly prepared and delicious. We will be returning again soon!

A group of us went from work, for a quick lunchtime catch-up. Someone had recommended this restaurant to us, and we only work around the corner (but there is ample parking in Ford Park, if you needed to drive). I wasn't sure what it would be like for a working lunch, because it has a reputation of being a fancy place for evening meals and set menus; I still think it is the latter (and will be going back one evening to check!), but thankfully my fears for lunchtime were unfounded because the food was banging, the service was quick and the cost was more than reasonable. Four of us ate from the lunchtime menu; two had flatbreads which were huge and tasted great, and the other two of us had bagels. Mine was packed with steak and caramelised onions, and tasted fantastic. Three soft drinks and a non-alcoholic beer and the total cost was £60. To be honest everything others were having at our table and at our neighbours looked fantastic. I'll have to go back again and try something different.

This was our first visit to Base and certainly won’t be our last. The menu is interesting and inventive without being weird and represents very good value for money. The cooking and presentation are spot on. Staff are efficient, welcoming and friendly. Thank you for really excellent lunch!

My wife and took the opportunity to visit Base after seeing that a party booking had cancelled. This was our very first visit and mentioned at booking one of us had a diary intolerance. We arrived and was courteously taken to our table and had the set menu for the evening explained and before us mentioning the diary issue our waitress was aware and explained the alternative using diary free produce. Amous Bouch arrived and set up the meal to follow beautifully. 1st course was a silky smooth celeriac soup with fresh bread. Wow divine. Main course belly pork and super tender. Dessert a beautiful chocolate cake with a quinnel followed by coffees and of course a cheese board if you can fit it in. Although this was our first visit the food and service experience forces itself to the top of our restaurant list to return to frequently

I stumbled across this jewel of a place whilst heading back down from the Ulverston monument one day. I noticed they did a 7 course taste testing menu changing on a weekly basis. It seemed exceptional value @ £49.95 per head even included coffee which a lot of places add as an extra. I knew we had some friends visiting us for the weekend just gone at our caravan & knew that they would like this menu too. I booked ahead & you pay £9.95 per person deposit but that is refundable if you cancel with 72 hours notice then it’s not refundable, seemed a logic thing to do as they do source the fresh ingredients a day or so before & it’s only fair in my opinion that you let them know if cancelling or forfeit the deposit. We arrived on Friday eve, shown to our table & the chef then brought out some small homemade blinis with salmon cream cheese & beetroot crumb as an appetiser, delicious. There is a wine paring menu if you wanted to choose this but we decided not on this occasion choosing a lovely Rose blush wine nicely chilled. The meal is at a set time 7pm so that is when the individual courses are served … each course is served with about 1/2 hour to enjoy before the next course arrives. It was a joy to see the enthusiasm by the chefs as they lovingly put the courses on the plates. When each course is delivered to your table the waiter/waitress explains what’s on your plate but I had taken a picture of the menu when I found the place so was able to remind my friends what we had on our plates. I didn’t take a picture of the celeriac volute but the rest I did …. Every single course was absolutely delicious , the 4 of us were in food heaven. The place was quiet as every diner was taking in the sheer magic that was in front of us. At the end of the meal we decided to share the optional cheeseboard between us … fab. We were the last to leave after having a chat to the owner/chef about how he started in the catering business & ended up doing what he clearly loves to do. We will absolutely return to experience another gastronomic delight as will my friends. If you love fine dining without any pretentious surroundings & a bargain price then I recommend you try here. You don’t need to dress up if you don’t want too everyone just comes for the experience that Base gives you. Only 5 pics + the menu we had as you don’t need to see a cup of coffee! & I forgot to take 1 as explained above, I was too excited to remember 💕😊

We booked Base for our wedding celebration and I'm so glad we did. There were 40 of us eating and we selected a 4 course meal which was absolutely divine. The food was served promptly and tasted delicious. You could tell a lot of time and effort went into the meal and the event as a whole. The meal surpassed our expectations and all our guests commented on how nice the food was over the following week. We are looking forward to planning a return visit with just my husband and I! Huge thanks to Mark and team ☺️

Back to Base for another fabulous evening with the last day of the Christmas menu. As usual, everything was first rate, we have eaten very well locally and Base compares with the best. Mark's imagination and skills in the kitchen are only matched by the care he takes over every guest - my wife has all manner of food allergies which are always wonderfully catered for. Here's to more success in 2024!!

We take recommendations lightly until we have been ourselves, but after picking a evening menu that suited us, we booked and hoped it stood up to its reputation! It was by far the best meal we have had in the lakes if not the UK!! Rivaled every Michelin starred dinner we have eaten and for £50 per person!! 7 courses of local, well balanced ingredients. Presented beautifully Infront of the guests. Staff where attentive and unfussy, wine pairing was fantastic and Abi explained each dish/wine as it arrived. Scampi and chips and the Peach Melba where standout dishes but all extremely good. The chef came around to talk to all the guests at the end which is a really nice touch, he talked through the dishes and favourites. All in all a fantastic experience if you enjoy finer dining. 2 set dinners, wine pairing and 2 local beers £139 Extremely good value for money we will definitely be back as the menu changes regularly, so we can't wait to return to try other menu's. Thank you all at the Base for a fantastic evening.

Four of us had dinner at Base on Saturday and what a wonderful experience! All courses were exemplary and made harder by the fact that my wife has many dietary limitations (Glutens, onions, garlic, cauliflower..). Mark and the boys were fantastic in the kitchen and Abby and the girls provided brilliant service front of house. Being locals, we will most definitely be back.

Great welcome, fantastic food and ambiance with great serving staff . What we really liked was that almost all ingredients are sourced locally ( including the rum, which was delicious) . We also got to meet the star of the show the chef himself who came to all tables and chatted to guests after the meal

I won a competition on Facebook for a full taster menu, wine pairing & cheese board for two at the Base Restaurant in Ulverston. I took my husband and we had the most amazing time. The food was just beautiful, both the taste and the presentation was outstanding. The fact everyone is seated at the same time and the food is served at the same time means there is a great atmosphere and ambiance in the restaurant . The waitresses were knowledgeable and the quality of service and attention to detail was superb. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone that wants to experience a night to remember. I am already planning on going again in a few weeks time. One of the best places in Ulverston to eat. Thanks again to the Base restaurant.

Once again an outstanding evening at Base. Mark and his team offer an evening of fantastic customer service and really wonderful food. Went for the evening tasting menu and it was full of flavour, both of us loved the gazpacho, full of flavour and with a hint of heat. There are too many good dishes to mention but the other that stood out was the S’mores, fun and messy to eat and a fine dining version of a camp fire classic. With Mark leading the kitchen and Abi leading front of house the have built an unrivalled team that never disappoint. We love to eat out in many restaurants but Base brings me back time and again and always will do, whether for a fantastic dinner or a casual lunch.
