Thankfully the Burgoyne has now shed it's pretentions and is restored to its former glory as a traditional, old world village pub, serving excellent beer and superbly cooked food. The bar staff are very friendly and chatty and the chef is a gem. There is a car park and you can sit outside. Food is beautifully presented and very good... More

Stayed just down the road but ventured here for a pint during my stay, had eaten in Ulverston but wish id tried here as saw food coming out and looked amazing!!! Cask ales very well conditioned and good banter between locals just how a village pub should be. James (I think that was his name) behind the bar was very... More

We visited yesterday for Sunday lunch after good recommendations and boy were they right!!! My Wife had the Beef roast dinner and not only did it look good she said it tasted better than it looked . I had the Gammon and it was a plateful, gammon was not dry (which I have experienced many times) and the chips were... More

First time we had been here under the new owners. The restaurant was quiet for a Sunday lunchtime. We were eventually greeted and shown to our table in the conservatory. There was a choice of beef or pork as a roast or the full menu. On asking for the wine list the waiter quoted four types of wine and the... More

Went here for the first time and it won't be the last! The food was superb, and our partners say the beer was good. Actually went to do the fort nightly quiz as well but it wasn't on due to another local amenity taking all the regulates away!! One of the staff knew why we were there and he tried... More

This is by far my favourite pub in Cumbria. The beer is always good, the food is excellent, the staff are friendly and the place just oozes character.

First visit since new people took over. The food was very good, the Cajun chicken with creamy Cajun sauce was really tasty, gammon steak also good as was the vegetable curry, the home made chunky chips simply superb and plenty of them or a choice of half rice half chips. The staff friendly and it's back to down to earth... More

The last time we went to the " General " it was under the previous owner. Although the food was great, it was a bit too formal for taking the kids. We recently ate there with the kids and I can wholeheartedly say that kids are now welcome again ! We had a real mix of food - fish /... More
