A friendly tradional pub serving decent pub grub and ales. We ate there a couple of times during a recent holiday in the area and the younger members of our group spent many a happy evening in there :-)

Stopped here for evening meal. Unfortunately only one table left - sitting under the widescreen TV with the Euro 2016 matches on. However, we got used to the noise, although having a bar full of people watching you eat was a bit disconcerting. Ordered the Cumberland sausage as was looking forward to having this local sausage. It was fair -... More

The best part of our visit was the cask ales - well kept and very tasty. The food is the complete opposite - although the portions were large, there was very little taste. I don't expect frozen carrots when eating out. The descriptions on the menu sometimes didn't accurately describe the dishes. The service was slow too.

Lovely for a drink in a country pub as it's historic to the area and has a nice interior. Went here for dinner as a group of 5 whilst on holiday in the area. I ordered a 'risotto' it arrived as long grain rice with a sauce on top..tried a little..gross, when the bar lady arrived to ask if everything... More

We came to the King George IV for the last night of our holiday and wish we'd ventured sooner! Excellent value for money with great tasting food and huge portions, good selection of ales, really friendly owner and host! Will hopefully be back!

Thought would try some where different for Mums Birthday Lunch, we went back to her childhood area where she was brought up, initial thoughts oldy worldy pub old wooden floor whith a bit of slate slab, same main dish on specials board as in the main menu around £3. Difference. Two of use had the shoulder of lamb bit disappointing... More

Spent the Sat night at the beer festival. Excellent selection of very nice beers at cheap price. Not easy to get a seat as it was so busy. Great band. Had difficulty getting there on the shuttle bus which was so full we had to wait for the next one. It would be nice if it could be run more... More

We ate here when we camped at the campsite round the corner. The food we had was very bland and seemed to be quite poor quality. Me my wife and our 2 children all commented that our food was not nice at all so I would really not recommend this place for food.

We came here for our tea after walking to the Stanley Ghyll waterfall. It was a hot day so we were glad of a nice cold drink when we arrived (my bitter shandy was heavenly!). There's a small carpark at the front or you can park on the road alongside. There is some outdoor seating at the front and more... More

Good old fashioned pub which serves food, can't comment on the rooms as we were camping. We ordered desserts one evening and they were fine, they had a decent selection of real ale. Best bit was listening in to some of the local gossip :-)
