We've eaten here a few times now and cannot recommend it enough. The food is absolutely delicious, by far the best Mexican meal I've ever had. The portions are extremely reasonable as are the prices. Good variety of food on the menu as well as the cocktail menu - love the frozen strawberry daiquiri 😋 Great atmosphere and love how... More

Having been a few times I recommended this my friends for a mum nights out. We all had something different and as usual the food was faultless. Before going I recorded telling my son (thought it would be funny as I'm a cruel parent and this is his favourite restaurant) It was funny and I shared it to their facebook... More

Work colleagues had been selling this place to me for ages, and one day I relented. This place is very busy, but luckily for us, when we rang to see if anything was available, they managed to squeeze us in. Its not a very big restaurant, but as they say, good things come in small packages!!! We were welcomed with... More

My partner and I ate here last night. I had been a few times before but not for a couple of years. It never disappoints. The food is amazing and the portions are unreal! Thankfully, we shared a starter and pud, otherwise I wouldn't have fit through the door! I have to say our waitress Danielle was amazing, so friendly... More

I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never had Mexican food before. The staff were great and showed me what dishes I felt I could go for. The food was out of this world. It was so delicious and the ambience gave the place a right buzz and you could almost feel like you were in a London... More

I visited here midweek along with 12 colleagues/friends as our end of term celebration. Firstly, the communication re booking and ordering was extremely quick and efficient (and funny!!). The night itself was brilliant...the food was absolutely superb right up to the side orders. The staff were professional but also unobtrusive which is a real skill. We all loved the relaxed... More

Not a bad place to eat. Would like to see more for children as my kids would love this place and would be great if they ever manage to get bigger premises. Always busy and you would be better booking a table as you would not want to be disappointed if you could not get in. Menu is great the... More

Thanks for your review . I'm not sure what you mean about more for children- we offer real Mexican food as Smaller portions with 40% discount and they can stay until 7.30- we certainty won't be selling chicken nuggets or fruit shoots or dressing up like a clown and giving out crayons and balloons. We've been here for 8 years... More

Friendly, personal service. Small restaurant, not squashed in. Music at correct6 level, so a conversation could be had. Would happily go again.

Had a great time with an important business acquaintance. He nearly blew his head off with one of the garnish chillies. He complained about this at first but after extra sour cream he was OK. The staff handleld him well in spite of being a little vocal and he soon got back into the swing of it and rally enjoyed... More

Description
THE journey from Wheelock Street to Chimichangos may just be a few steps. But as soon as you walk through the door it feels like a voyage of discovery. Shades of orange and subtle lighting lend an ambience to the restaurant. Above the bar is a painted landscape filled with cacti and sombreros playfully hang from walls and chairs. It is the kind of scene you might expect from an inner-city restaurant but this is Middlewich. Chimichangos officially opened at the weekend and the Guardian was invited to give it a try. Owner Jason Tanfield has transformed Kandi’s Steakhouse into a Mexican restaurant. The 36-year-old said he identified a gap in the market as there is only a handful of independent venues in Cheshire where you can enjoy Mexican food. Jason is also drawing on his experience as he used to be the head chef at a restaurant called The Three Amigos in Exeter about 15 years ago. My partner and I were promptly seated and were struck by how attentive and polite the staff were. We were soon sipping Coronas and tucking into some tortilla chips with delicious home-made salsa. To start we had creamy garlic mushrooms in a tortilla shell and jalapenos stuffed with soft cheese which were both perfect. We followed this up with vegetable fajitas and chicken fajitas respectively - and this is where Chimichangos showed its edge over some of its competitors. Firstly you can choose how hot you want your food to be which is sure to be welcomed by both spice addicts and those who like things mild. The portions were also incredibly generous which tends to be unusual for Mexican restaurants. There genuinely was not much to criticise but it would have been nice to have some cheese with the fajitas but im told they do normally and had forgot!! The service was prompt and my partner, a vegetarian, was impressed with the range of suitable dishes. Credit also goes to Jason for making good use of the limited space available. At the time of our visit a large group for a 21st birthday celebration was being accomodated. We were defeated by the time it came to dessert but suffice to say a taste of Mexico is on offer for those with a sweet tooth. The menu even includes a banana wrapped in a tortilla and dusted with cinnamon called a chimichanga. The whole experience was fantastic and comes highly recommended.NOTE:This was a secret food critic from the guardian newspaper just search GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER MIDDLEWICH
