A birthday tasting menu treat. Each and every dish from the amuse bouche through to the petits fours was just incredible. Salsify with hazlenut? Enough to covert a meatboy into a vegetarian. Service was great and *VERY* French. Amusement came in the form of the...More

We both had the tasting menu with the wine flight. Great to have the vegetarian tasting menu as an option. The wine was simply perfect and went down very easily. We added on the cheese course which in our eyes was the best course! Was...More

After many attempts to get a table I managed to get in for my mum's bday. It was an early sitting but we did not feel rushed and managed to get the full taster menu in. The food was amazing and made better by being...More

Had a set lunch menu and can really recommend. Exquisite presentation, first rate service and most importantly delicious. Portion sizes was very small but we're not big eaters. If you prefer to leave a restaurant feeling stuffed I'd go elsewhere but The Artichoke's reputation for...More

We go to Artichoke about once a season and it never fails to disappoint. The food is perfection - art on a plate - and service sublime. Some may think that you leave high end restaurants hungry but this is never the case here and...More

From the greeting on arrival to the departure, just the most wonderful evening we have just had. Have been many times before, always excellent, but tonight the tasting menu just was faultless. The pre dinner parsnip soup just started the mood perfectly, then smoked haddock,...More

I have been advocating that the Artichoke should have a Michelin star for a couple of years now. Though named amongst the best 100 restuarants by Harden it still does not have its star. We had a superb 3 course a la carte dinner the...More

I visited yesterday and had a wonderful lunch. Smoked cod to start, followed by pork/hock cannelloni (that was awesome) and a cheese plate to finish with. The wine recommend was very good as were the desert wines. The staff were very informative, extremely polite and...More

It's taking self into the high end food market. It clearly is seeking at least a Michelin star. The thing that militates against it, is the tables are too close together. The food is very interesting, we had the taster menu great flavours, well presented and served

An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
