We chose the tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed every course. The most surprising was the amuse bouche, described as 'white onion soup', it was intensely flavoured foam and like no soup I have previously tasted. The portion size was larger than for other similar multi course meals I've had. Wine prices were high. I dislike the way restaurants generally overprice... More

We've been trying to book this Resturant for ages and finally we got there. A perfect treat. We went for the tasting menu with wines.... Every mouthful a treat and the wine was a complement. Each course and glass of wine explained. It has 5* and they deserve it.

Been here couple of times and always been really good food and service, it's bit expensive but you get what you paid for so can't complain.

My favourite local restaurant for a romantic lunch or to celebrate a special occasion. The food is beautifully presented and the wine suggestions compliment the food perfectly.

It's been a while since we ate here and I'm please to say nothing has changed. Still great food and wonderful staff. Dining from the A la Carte menu we had scallops and the crab, both deliscious. My lamb main course melted in the mouth, the duck was also cooked to perfection. For deserts we tried the frozen white chocolate... More

We are devotees of The Artichoke and have been for some years which is why we are fully in agreement both with Hardens when they state that “the debate should not be whether or not it should have a star, but whether or not it should have two” and with The Good Food Guide which rates it much higher than... Went for our 31st wedding anniversary following a recommendation from a friend and the taster menu was absolutely brilliant , slightly expensive but very good value for money . Every course was a delight and I had the wine package too which was excellent and complemented each course perfectly . Staff extremely efficient without being too much in your face... More

This was a first visit and it proved to be the perfect place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Three things stood out for me: firstly, the sense of theatre the staff create - even though they are calm and organised - it highlights the sense of a special occasion. Secondly, the fact we were sitting close to the open... More

Description
An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
