A very different experience. No meat and two veg here. Very attentive & charming staff. I thought the basic menu at the price for 3 courses was very reasonable but £3.95 extra for cheese (3 small pieces with accompaniments and strange home made crispbreads) and...More

The amuse bouche was very tasty. The mackerel starter wasn't overpowering. The beef hash croquette was excellent. The tropical fruit salad ended a lovely meal

I was taken to the Artichoke restaurant as a belated birthday celebration on a very cold January day. When we arrived the restaurant was packed even though it was their second seating. The set up is clinical and similar to lots of aspiring one Michelin...More

Birthday tasting menu treat which I enjoyed from aperitif to petit fours. Off to a good start with Griffiths Bros gin. Amuse bouche was a delicious artichoke veloute. Other highlights were salsify which was a revelation, a surprise ‘crisp’ which accompanied the cod in chicken...More

After an absence of several years, my wife and I revisited Artichoke for lunch on a freezing, rain lashed St Valentine's Day. Ducking into the contemporary styled intimate dining room (ground floor) we were greeted warmly and after I fussed about being seated in front...More

Had a nice evening with the Valentine’s menu - the highlight was definitely the wines matched to the courses. The dessert was excellent too. The food was good, the service was good, it was quite expensive - but it was valentines night so expected. Overall,...More

An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
