The restaurant never fails to deliver. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The staff are all extremely attentive and knowledgeable with regard to all the dishes served. It is a relaxed setting in which to enjoy either lunch or dinner.

I have reviewed the Artichoke before, and at length so this is really just to say that the quality is still exceptional. Last week was our sixth visit, and once again we had an outstanding night out. The food was perfect and the staff warm and attentive as ever. Can't wait for visit number seven!

We arrived for our taster menu meal at 1945 within a few minutes the whole restaurant was already full. We had the 7 course taster menu plus amuse bouche. Every course beautifully presented superb flavours. Staff were informative on each course. For us the highlights were the scallop dish, the amazing main courses and the exceptional pear sorbet. The Artichoke has managed a seamless transition from a relatively quirky local restaurant stretching its gastronomic legs with foams and smears, not always successfully, to an assured high level dining experience. The team is sure footed, service professional but still importantly informal, the menu choices cover all the seasonal bases and the quality, flavor and presentation of the food is... More

We loved our dinner at Artichoke. We had three courses and all the food was great as well as some local ale and some good wine. Very reasonable for the standard of food. and located right in the heart of the village.

This is the second time that I have lunched at the Artichoke. We chose from the set menu, and the food was interesting and beautifully presented.

This is very refined cooking - i was afraid that the tasting menu might be too much, so went a la carte, but might give it a go if there's a next time. Portions focus on taste, not size, so it is not a bloating experience even with the amuse bouche and pre-dessert. The wine list is amazing, but not... More

Our 2nd visit and again absolutely surprised that it still does not have a Michelin star. Had the 6-course lunch tasting menu with wine pairing. Refer to photos for visual delight. After the amuse bouche, we got the tomato salad and thought “gosh, we paying for this? How good can this be?” Boy, were we wrong. Then, we got the... More

Cannot understand the great reviews. Firstly the £40 bottle of wine arrived already opened and was poured directly into our glasses, no tasting was offered. When the glasses were refilled the waiter leant across instead of walking round. This was almost the cheapest from an outrageously priced list. Our 1st course took 45 mins to arrive. Fish dish was great... More

An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
