The Artichoke is a restaurant to be booked for a special occasion. Beware - it's certainly top end pricing but nevertheless value for money. The special occasion was our 42nd wedding anniversary and we both had the tasting menu with wine flight. The food is absolutely marvellous and every course very enjoyable. For both of us the best course was... More

Wonderful restaurant with excellent service but it comes at a very high price. Menu range is limited and not suitable for teenagers or fussy eaters and too finely focused. Lacks range and some imagination. The food orderwd was outstanding and very well presented. Loved the pork and duck dishes. The crab was just OK. A good wine list and pleasant... More

The food i got here at the artichoke was brilliant. Small courses, but lots of detail, you can tell the chefs are both experienced and talented. However it is pricey and I feel the ambiance of the place could be improved. Saying that, I still enjoyed my night at the artichoke and hope to return one day

Visited again last week for our anniversary and had an amazing meal. Absolutely incredible food(particularly the mullet with bouillabaisse & braised octopus)and wonderful service, extremely precise and knowledgeable. Not surprising to see they got rated as the 5th best restaurant in the country again today. Been to plenty of one star restaurants and this is better than all of them,... More

We took my son and wife to celebrate. We had the 3 course option and asked for pairings of wine for those 3 courses. It was spot on. We had a most delicious meal. When back in the area, we will return. You won't be disappointed. Service was excellent, too.

We first discovered this restaurant a couple of years ago when it hadn't expanded and it was still trying to make a splash - and it did, the food then was a level above what you might have expected - totally delicious. Two years on - what a total disappointment. We went mid week for lunch. The welcome was pleasant... More

we have been here before a few times and always enjoyed the outstanding service, a great wine selection, and of course an excellent quality of all courses. We came here on a Saturday for a lunch, and chose the seven course menu. We had two aperitives (champagne) and chose the wine flight to share. Everything a course was perfectly prepared,... More

Went for lunch as a last minute idea and although it was very busy we got a table for two. We ate from the £28 three course lunch with a bottle of Muscadet. Fantastic food, service and ambience. This really is a gem.

Description
An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
