The garden centre has a lovely Christmas feel, great displays and lots of choice. The best part is how welcoming the garden centre is for dogs. We ate in the dog house which is a brilliant idea, keeping dog families separate from the main cafe in nice warm surroundings. My only complaint would be the food is a bit pricey and the cafe staff really need some customer service training. However, it didn't ruin a really enjoyable afternoon Christmas shopping.

Visited the garden centre on Wednesday, started with the Christmas shop. We arrived early as my daughter is in a wheelchair we need plenty of space. No problem getting in, the display was beautiful as always. Coming out at the bottom near the waste bins meant a hard push up the long slope. I found it very difficult. How much easier for wheelchairs and double pushchair to go in at the bottom and come out nearer the top of the slope. The same with the restaurant. I couldn’t open the door which opened towards me and push the wheelchair up the slope. The slope is short and steep.A gentleman in the que behind me opened the door. I know I can’t take my daughter to either places again. Maybe the route should be fully tested with a heavy wheelchair user then the problem would be understood.

Lovely atmosphere. It states " vegan options " but there are very little. You can get a jacket potato at lunchtime, take off the coleslaw and butter. There used to be some vegan cakes but it's hit and miss if there's anything available. What a shame.

In these times I do expect things to be difficult but you can make it easier. We waited outside for about 15 mins for a table, that was fine. The guy who showed us to our table did not wear a Mask at any time and spoke straight at us and others and not at 2m. Although the briefing was very robust. He said the wait for ordering was 15 to 20 mins. After 35 mins we were just about to leave and the waitress came over. We asked if the food would be long coming after we order and she said, no it shouldn’t be too long, about 5 mins, so we ordered and paid, so captive audience now. After another wait of 20 mins I asked a waiter if he could check on our food (Baked potato and panini, not too hard to rustle up). 5 minutes later it arrived. The best part of a baked potato is the crispy skin..not this one, it was burnt black. The panini wasn’t a panini but more of a soft baguette, and it was hardly toasted and very soft. Fillings were good though. I do not mind waiting if I know how long for, but the 20 minute in total expressed to us was a very large fib as it was 1 hr wait for order and food in total, not acceptable. The 15 minute wait on top of this to get in I could live with, that was my choice. Given all that and the ‘Maitre D’ following no Covid rules himself as an employee is even more unacceptable. We will not return until they sort themselves out.

Thought we would go for Sunday roast dinner big mistake !! Long queue which moved extremely slowly was going to buy a cold drink when I saw the price £2.79 for a small Fanta I thought not paying that. Eventually got served and had turkey told had to wait as ran out of roast potatoes and Yorkshire new item came out got a drink and so did the other two in our party. Sat down turkey Yorkshire and carrots excellent but the roast potatoes if you would call them that were undercooked hard on inside and not brown on outside and stuffing was awful and dry and as you only get one scoop of gravy dinner was dry and no condiments, I wanted cranberry mint sauce none available !! Anyway charged £46 for the pleasure won’t be coming again which is a shame as the garden centre is excellent itself.

I haven't been to Poplars in some time. What an amazing surprise. The food was so fresh, the price was brilliant and I spent an hour just relaxing and enjoying my surroundings. Infact still sitting writing this review. I'll be coming back for some presents for upcoming birthdays and I can guarantee I'll be eating every time.

Before I start this review is only about the coffee shop and not the garden centre. Both my wife and I went to poplars garden centre today. We had a good look around as we always do. Great garden centre until we wanted to have a coffee and a cake. That's when my disappointment started. When you go to choose a piece of cake and they want to charge you £3.49 for 1 piece and over £3.00 for a cappuccino. I think this is just decusting and very over priced. Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying when you go out and totally understand a company has got to make a profit. But these prices are a total rip off and very much over the top. I stated my disappointment to the restaurant manager and of course the COVID word came out as a excuse and the lorry drivers plus the delivery problems. All this I found to be a very poor excuse. I know I can just walk away and that is what my wife and I did .The vist to the garden centre was now very disappointing. G.BISHOP

Don't get there close to 11.30. I can only assume the staff had their eye on what was left for their breakfast the way they were so unwilling to sell the food that was still there. Didn't bother with anything else and theres plenty of other options for "next time'.

Popped in here yesterday with daughter & granddaughter & bought a child's cheese sandwich which she did not want so we took it home. On getting home, it was taken out of the wrapping only to find the smallest possible piece of cheese in the bread. Really poor value for money & one purchase I certainly won't be repeating at the price of £1.99. Check before you think of buying this!

We love this garden centre, a great place to relax and unwind, friendly staff and a great range of products. We used the restaurant for a breakfast, and the food was first class, freshly cooked and cleanly served. Highly recommend the large breakfast.

Well my 1st time there and hopefully not my last. Well laid out and tidy and clean restaurant and smiling happy staff. Now to the main bit the food! Superb choice of breakfast either 5 or 9 items or make your own up. Breakfast was well cooked, lovely thick bacon and good to see fried bread there as well. Sausages were great and a proper size, not the small ones you usually get served. Although I didn't have one, the bacon sarnies looked great and again nice large size. Well done Jack and the Team.

Visited the garden centre with some very excited toddlers and the displays are fabulous, the children loved it. However the staff were not subtle in sharing their contempt for us! They did little to hide the looks on their faces, clearly unhappy that we had brought toddlers to a garden centre. We left the negativity and visited the cafe, where we were met by even more happy members of staff! A member of staff screamed at me when I was about to feed the little ones that were with me, as I’d spent £10 in the cafe, I didn’t think it would be a problem. I immediately put the childrens lunch away, was amazed as I observed the same member of staff clearly informing all of the staff behind the counter of the incident and was then subjected to dirty looks, scowls etc! Couldn’t get out of there quick enough, the place is filled with moody old women! I’d like to add that all of the other customers (mainly older people) loved our little ones, waving and saying hello! Definitely will not be returning.

Brought my hubby a gift card for an afternoon tea, we’ve just been and all I can say is WoW it was amazing. The sandwiches were delicious, the small cakes were gorgeous plus we had two scones each with jam and clotted cream . Have to admit it beat me , but I was able to bring some cakes away with me. A big Thankyou to the staff who kept the coffee and tea flowing despite it being particularly busy .10/10 and will definitely be buying him another for Xmas 🎄

I’ve given one star as there’s plenty of seating. I’ve visited the restaurant a few times and just the servers were having a bad day. But this is the last time. Staff are awful, non friendly, and they don’t wear gloves when handling food directly. The food was cold, coffee was cold, bacon like rubber. They have a separate coffee shop which is much better, but the restaurant, avoid.

Have come to this cafe a couple of times with my daughter who has a dog. I feel dog owners are made to feel very unwelcome as they have to eat in a soulless shed outside which is cold. Compare this to Frosts garden centre where dogs are welcome and the waitresses will even bring a bowl of water for the dog to the table!
