Welcome to the Original S.S. Wreck & Galley Grill in Grassy Key Florida ... A "local's favorite" --- Steve and Stephanie started The Wreck in 1999, sold it in 2005 and was turned back to them in Oct 2015. The S.S. Wreck re-opened Feb 10, 2016 with original owners, chef & some waitstaff! Bringing it back to the way it use to be. A place to have fun! Stop in and say hello!!

Truly the BEST Key Lime pie!!

We had the pleasure of dining here a few times during our 2 month stay in the Keys. The food is always fresh and cooked to your liking with very generous portions. Their catfish filets and Cajun chicken breasts are very good. I always ask for my French fries to be cooked crispy and this restaurant has been only one of a couple that will cook them to my liking. Their soft drinks and tea are served in small pitchers so you always have plenty to drink and they will still give you free refills. Now to their advertised “award winning key lime pie”. This is NOT an understatement!! It has the perfect balance between tart and sweet and the graham cracker crust is not soggy. Top it with a few dollops of their fresh whipped cream and you have a desert large enough for 2 to share. A little pricey per slice but well worth the extra bucks!! If you are too full after your meal .... get the pie to go .... you won’t regret it!!

Great service & huge portions

I guess the S S in their name stands for Super Sunday! We went on a Sunday mid afternoon and had plenty of parking, choices of seating and a good meal. The beer was cold, service friendly and food came quickly-filling each plate. Only thing missing was a military discount.

We were staying just down the street from the SS Wreck. The outside doesn't even begin to reflect the goodness inside. We had two lunches and two dinners here.....that's how much we loved it. EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious. We had the Prime Rib on Friday night, a NY Strip that was cooked perfectly, Caesar salad with the Island Grilled Chicken, Cobb Salad and they have daily specials that were amazing. Wait staff was amazing...remember us and what we liked to drink, were attentive and friendly. It is a bit pricey but you end up with leftovers for the next day because they don't scrimp on portion sizes. Key Lime Pie lovers? You will find the best slice of pie right here. They also have a Happy Hour Menu from 3-5pm Monday-Friday.

Worst Service experienced!

My family recently went on vacation to Marathon. We wanted to try out the S.S. Shipwreck for dinner on our last night. There was a wait for being seated and we were all hungry, but we made the best of it including our 2 year old daughter. Our name was up next to be seated and we watched the hostess go to the party below us (you can visually see on a board where your party is listed to be seated), which was a larger party of 8 people to say that their table would be ready in a few minutes. We only had 4 people. The hostess never came up to my family and never said anything to us. After waiting 30 minutes with a hungry 2 year old we watched the hostess disregard our name on the list and proceeded to seat the larger party. We were standing right near the board. She never said anything to my husband or myself. We left. I have no problem if she would have said something to us saying there’s another table almost ready for you and your family, but you could clearly see that she didn’t even acknowledge that our name was still on the list. I normally don’t write reviews, but wanted to let people know that if you want to come and enjoy a nice meal be prepared to be ignored before even getting to your table.

Don't bother with Happy (unhappy) Hour

My wife and I stopped in because we heard their happy hour was good. We arrived right at 4pm (happy hour is 4-6). There were no seats available at the bar so we sat at a table right next to the bar. the waitress came out and asked what we would like and I asked about the happy hour specials. She told us she had no idea what they were but we could go to the bar and ask the bartender. We were told we didn't qualify for the specials because they were at the bar only! There are only about 15 seats at the bar but all were full of patrons that had obviously been there for quite a while. Not one seat ever opened up while we were there, and I saw no food served at the bar. I explained that we were in the bar area (not the dining room) so why would we not be allowed the happy hour specials. She told us that the rules were from the owners! She was very nice, and asked the bartender to come over to talk to us. He told us what the specials were, but again reiterated we could not have them! He was also very nice and said it wasn't their rules, it was the owners. He also said we could sit outside and qualify for the specials... Now "outside" is about 30 feet from the bar and where we sat was about 8 feet! It was also very windy and all of the bar patrons walked right out to where he proposed we sit to smoke. I was very upset by this egregious lack of respect for the customers from the owners for creating such a policy and wanted to leave but my wife insisted we stay. Their wings are reputed to be "giant turkey wings". Well, they aren't giant, they aren't turkey, and they aren't good! They were the whole wing, par boiled and then tossed into an oven to crisp them up a bit (they weren't). We could taste the par boiled flavor and the sauces were terrible! I gave 2 stars because the staff was very nice and apologized for the absolutely ignorant happy hour policy the owners have put in place. BTW, I live 6 miles from the Wreck 6 months/year and have eaten here dozens of times over the last 15 years. Their food is good, but this happy hour BS really frosted my butt!

this restaurant came to us highly recommended but we found ourselves being highly disappointed in the restaurant. Our waitress almost would like forget about our table and they weren't even busy. We left the dolphin research center(which was right next door) to eat here and would definitely travel somewhere else next time. The food was okay. my husband didnt like the wings at all

Worst food experience in keys ive ever had! First off, pricey , my $14.00 keylime martini, was the most bland drink I've ever had. Tasted like murky lime juice, barely. Dinner plain rice, which waitress did not tell me it was plain, I didn't ask because I wouldn't think I'd be served plain nothing rice. Supposed to be Key grilled shrimp, the only flavoring on shrimp, was salt, pepper and lemon wedge, I myself put on it! Shrimp ok, but again, no seasoning of any kind. This was supposed to be my birthday meal, it sucked, all the way around! Paid $40.00 basically for 8 plain shrimp. I think all the good reviews of this place, were from people who eat crap food, and eat at Applebee's normally! I'm writing this at 4am, because I can't sleep, because I'm starving!!!!!

Lots of food for the money.

If you are hungry this is a place to try. The Key West grilled shrimp and chicken sandwiches were delicious and served in large portions. French fries were very good. I would recommend sitting outside. The server was pleasant and the food arrived in a timely fashion.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The deck was a nice setting and the service was very good. Tried conch chowder for an appetizer, that was probably our least favorite dish, it was good but was reminiscent of a classic vegetable soup. The coconut shrimp were excellent and the orange sauce they served it with was delicious. They had a lobster Mac and cheese on special for the night which was HUGE as well as tasty. We are Key Lime Pie up and down the Keys on this trip and the pie here was easily our favorite. It was similar to a cheesecake in texture with a sweet lime flavor and thick whipped cream on top, mmm, can't wait to come back through and have more!

Service Dog kicked out (after they took our money)

We entered the restaurant with our service dog and they told us we could not eat inside. We were told we could eat outside. This is wrong but we agreed to keep the peace. As my husband was ordering from the bar (no table service outside), the manager came and asked for proof of being a service dog (in violation of Federal Law). We complied and provided him with documentation. The food and beverage came and the bill was paid to the bar BUT the manager returned again and said he did not believe the dog was a service dog and said we would have to leave. We did not even finish our food and beverage. The rudeness with which they violate the law, take our money without letting us finish eating was second to none. David and Barbara

Not Pet Friendly — But Good Food and Drinks

The owner wears Maize and Blue so I brought him some Buckeyes this year. I enjoy frequent visits to the SS Wreck for food and drink. Their specialty drinks are good and their food is also very good. Deb who often hostess is friendly and takes good care of me. I recommend the SS Wreck and Galley.

Prime rib over the top!

Why almost five: We are connoisseurs of prime rib and very picky about ordering it at dinner. Having heard that the Wreck has great prime rib on Friday evenings and the leftover sandwiches on Saturdays for lunch, we decided to give it a try this Friday. Will it or won’t it be tasty? Trust me when I say it was one of the top three we’ve had anywhere, from big buck restaurants on down. Perfectly cooked medium rare with all the edges browned to perfection with herbs and served in the au jus, I ordered side salad and baked potato over other options. The salad was too stacked and filling on a small plate to even eat. The potato was fine. Since we sat at the bar (tables are at a premium on Fridays), service was a bit harried (no requested water ever arrived, asked twice for napkins and condiments, etc.), but we rolled with it. Hence, the four out of five stars. We’ve eaten here numerous times over the years and never been disappointed…a good, substantial menu with food well prepared. But the prime rib on Friday is par excellent!!!

On our first day at Hawk Key Resort, we sought out a local place for dinner. In the dark, we saw SS Wreck and Galley Grill, which we decided to try. Good call ! Superb steak, and catfish gougons with a Greek salad. Great portions, and great friendly service. On the next table, someone was trying the Eat all you can Fried Mahi and chips special. When we left, he was on his fourth serving.... Great place, great food, great value, great local colour. What more could you want ?

Not impressed - average bar food

We have driven by this place for years and it is always packed. Friends tried it a couple years ago and said it was good so we went up for an early dinner. None of the four of us were impressed and won't go back. Just average bar food. But the kicker was it took at least 45 minutes to get it - and they weren't packed - plenty of open tables. Two of us got burgers, one wings and the other fried shrimp. Waitress was very attentive at first but then when things were taking so long, she was no where to be found. Someone else brought out our order. Food was hot when we got it but just average. We will not go back with all the other choices there are in the area.

Terrible Service

So we wanted to made a reservation in the evening, but they wouldnt take any reservations, so a waiter guarenteed us that they are open for at least another hour . But when coming back 1 h later they told that they are closed already earlier. Pretty disappointing poor service.
