It is not too fancy but this is a great value. It is very similar to the more expensive places but it cost way less. They were kind and accommodating and my family had a great time!

Looking for a more authentic experience, my wife and I left the relative safety and fake Costa Maya for Mahahual, the actual local town. Within minutes of arriving we were greeted, and asked to join our host and waiter, Pancho at Kimbara. We were seated...outside, literally feet from the coast. Pancho suggested a traditional Mayan dish, a whole fish filet served with beans, rice, plantains, fries, and tortillas to make tacos. It was amazing. My wife got beef tacos which were also delicious. We look forward to going back if the occasion ever arises. Pancho was a fabulous waiter on top of it all, making sure we always had a cold beer in hand throughout our two hour stay.More

We walked along the beachfront and talked to several places for a massage but came back to Kimbara and Angel is fantastic. Best massage ever! After we enjoyed a margarita and some food and Ivan was an excellent waiter. Good place to stop.

I highly recommend eating at this restaurant by the beach. Ivan gave us over-the-top service and waited on our every need. And the best part? The whole red snapper they cooked up for us “Mayan style” was the best fish I’ve ever eaten! My advice...to cruise travelers is to leave the Costa Maya port and go into Mahahual. And go to Kimbara!More

They steered us away from Crazy Lobster saying they were full. First stop off the trolley, so get off and keep walking. Do not stop at this place. Beach was rocky and not good for anything except goofing around in their cheapo kayaks. Sting rays...hiding in the sand and sea grass everywhere until walk out about 100 yards. No snokeling unless you into looking at sea grass. Food was bland and no flavor. Rice tasted like Uncle Bens out of a pouch. Tablespoon full of beans(your side dish) lol. One hour after we got there, they stuff as many fools(like me)onto a 30 foot by 100 strip of land until we were all stepping on each other’s toes. Massages were a rip also. You are getting a 20 dollar back rub and not even a good one. No talent or formal training that I could tell. Most important tip-They flip prices on you thinking you won’t notice. Take a pic of their menu and match to your bill. It won’t match, plus they pad with 15 percent “tax” and your card won’t work either. Worst experience here ever. Carry cash and go to Crazy Lobster, or better yet stay on the boat and spend your money at Cozumel(much cheaper and no scammers).More

When you get to the beach area from the bus you are greeted by someone offering you a chair and umbrella for $10 per person. Sounds like a pretty fair deal. He leads you to believe that you cannot walk and shop or use any...restroom on the beach area without purchasing a wristband first. So we went ahead and got the wristbands. 100 feet down the strip you find much nicer areas to lounge by the beach for FREE! Hammocks hanging in between the palm trees. Also, we paid for restroom usage and the ladies restroom didn’t work the whole time we were there. My husband and his friend “upgraded” their wristbands for unlimited drinks.... even two grown men will get tipsy drinking margaritas all day. Neither one of them even got a slight buzz. They offered to take $20 off of our bill for the day because the restrooms didn’t work. Then charged us “taxes” to accommodate what they took off of the check. Total rip off. Keep walking down the strip and you’ll find much better areas to sit and relax during your beach time in Costa Maya.More

When we got to Costa Maya we took the trolley thing to Mahahual. Kimbara is the first restaurant/beach area. We were planning on walking along beach to find an area. This was $40 for 7 people. Compared to booking it through the cruiseline at $70...a person. (Not the same establishment but very close). We had a nice relaxing day at the beach. They had kayaks we could use. Very few people. Designated area with lounge chairs. Even watched them collecting all the seaweed out. They were trying to keep it nice and clean (can't help seaweed). Food was delicious. No it wasn't a 5 star resort but it was a cheap relaxing day at the beach. Water was crystal clear but very shallow.More

A full day diving with their neighbors (Buceando Mahahual) we almost always find ourselves resting during the surface interval with a plate of ceviche and afterwards with a few cold brews. Great staff, fast and friendly service at a very reasonable price. Normally closes after...the cruise ships depart, but worth a stop in whilst they are open for sure.More

At the end of a Segway tour, we were dropped off at Kimbara. We were a family of 4, ordered 4 twelve dollar drinks and 2 bowls of chips and salsa. The bill we were given was $99!!! Even the addition of the fake numbers...was wrong. Fortunately, I can speak spanish and confronted our waiter in the restaurant. This waiter, the skinny guy in the back of group picture above, recalculated the bill and blamed the mistake on the 2 teenage girls (family) sitting at the bar. He also FALSELY added 15% tax (THERE IS NO TAX ON RESTAURANT FOOD IN MEXICO). This character was just hoping that we stupid unsuspecting tourists wouldn't pay attention and just pay the bill. TOURISTS BEWARE of being ripped off by Kimbara!!!!More

We got a pretty good variety of food to share and it was all pretty good. We had tacos, chips, salsa, quesadillas, and other finger foods. Everything was fresh and it had a good flavor. The service was excellent. I'm pretty sure they overcharged us...but it was still worth it.More

This was our final stop on our Segway tour. We were starving. Ordered margaritas & nachos. The margaritas were VERY good - tart & plenty of ice! The beef nachos were HUGE! The 2 of us couldn't eat them all, and they were delicious!!! There...were 4 local kids at the table next to us & I thought I had some candy in my bag. I asked our waitress (so sad I didn't get her name) where I could buy some. She actually took my money & went & bought candy for me - so I could give it to the kids!!! Great service, great food, great margaritas!!! Highly recommend this place!!!!More

We only spent one day in Costa Maya and wanted to use loungers on the beach for 2 or 3 hours. Most places seemed to insist on selling a "package" including sunbed, umbrella, taxi and drinks for 29 USD or up to 49 USD, including...food, per person. We didn't need a taxi and thought the prices were steep. At Kimbara the loungers and umbrellas were free if we bought drinks while we were there. The staff were efficient and friendly, and the beach good, so we ended up buying a couple of drinks and lunch (for much less than a packaged price). The food was excellent. We'd happily use Kimbara again if we returned to Costa Maya.More
