The food was the worst we have ever had and we have been to a lot of restaurants. Beautiful location but everything else is horrendous.

The views here are amazing. The service and the food are top notch. (Try the Pollo Chaya!) We found their prices pretty reasonable for Akumal. And there's nothing better than enjoying great food and a drink on the edge of the ocean. We loved this...place so much we ate here 3 times during our 1 week stay. Highly recommend.More

Go get a margarita or the signature “Buena vida” from Fernando or Reyes and your worries will melt away as you sit in a rope swing at the bar. Those guys kick ass! Love the skeleton vibe. Can't wait to go back.

Awesome spot. The whole staff is phenomenal. Food and drinks top notch. Shout out to the bartenders making each night fun and entertaining. # Fernando, Reyes, Primitivo Pumbaa. Great guys and great banter back and forth.

FABULOUS service from him and all the staff!! Of course my Mom’s favourite Reyes...made her drinks to perfection!! Location is beautiful, food is amazing, and the staff are second to none!! For many years this has been my favourite bar on the whole Mayan Riviera but this year was a total disappointment. Food was average and everything else felt downsized. No longer providing pitchers of Margaritas and Beer, which usually makes the party kick off, now...they are providing tiny margaritas that are more ice than drink. Fall from grace for one of my favourite restaurants it was so disappointing.More

In my opinion the positive reviews are more about the setting than the food and drink. The restaurant overlooks the sea and you’re gently buffeted by balmy breezes. I gave it 3 stars because that was such an enjoyable experience. My husband and I tried...the Tuna Tartare and Mayan Ceviche to start. We both greatly enjoyed the tartare but the ceviche was mediocre. For mains we had grilled tuna and lobster. Both were overcooked, dry and practically inedible, though the vegetables and rice on the side were pretty good. I got their top end Herradura Margarita and it was terrible. My husband doesn’t drink alcohol and can still make an excellent Margarita. I also ordered a glass of white wine that was so bad I just didn’t drink it. There are some very good Mexican wines that are not very expensive so there’s no excuse. The waiter noticed that my husband had left nearly all of the tuna on his plate and made a comment that the chef wouldn’t be working there soon, but didn’t offer to remove the charge for the dish or to get something else. If you buy beer and have the Tuna Tartare and maybe some other appetizers, like guacamole, you could have a decent snack and enjoy the atmosphere and scenery, but we wouldn’t recommend spending anything for dinner.More

Went a couple times in our week in Akumel with couple guys and then whole family (with 2 kids under 3). Great on the beach spot; bar fun with swings for some seats; tables of Al sizes on sand beach; decent menu for rural Mexico...and good service; very reasonable prices (9 adults and 2 kids with several drinks was $220 or so). Does close early at 9 pm - opens at 12 so does lunch also. Recommended!More

The restaurant wasn't overly crowded but service was extremely slow. The food and drinks were over priced and the mixed drinks were small with not much flavor. There were 4 of us in the group, I ordered stuffed shrimp and was brought a vegetarian pasta...dish (the waiter enters the order digitally and he entered it wrong). I told him that's not what I ordered and he wanted me to go ahead and eat that. I told him I wanted what I had ordered. Everyone in our party had finished eating and I asked twice about my food. 40 minutes later I still hadn't received it so I told the waiter we were leaving and to take it off the bill. We received the bill and the over priced meal I ordered he had boxed up and brought to me and it was still on the bill. When I asked him again to remove it he took the food back and finally removed my meal. During this entire time I wasn't as much as offered a free drink or anything. Very disappointed. I don't recommend anyone eating here!More

I hate to give this longstanding Akumalian institution this review, but prices here have absolutely skyrocketed over the last couple of years and like most of the restaurant industry worldwide, the value here is unfortunately not commensurate with the increase in la cuenta. It's a...fait-accompli in Mexico with pricing, but this place must do better if it is to compete for the wave of investment coming to the area. Few options in Akumal, and notwithstanding its great location, this restaurant is positioned where a lot of the unpleasant stuff collects in the bay. However, the views are spectacular and it's pretty much the only place within walking distance in Half Moon Bay that your normie Gringo will go and stumble home full and happy. Drinks are fantastically underwhelming (small sad margaritas filled with ice), food is good ( though the arrachera was tiny and served cold) and the menu (despite caving to the vegetarian crowd) is tasty and predictable fare especially if you've got a few cocktails in you. Staff is very incredibly friendly, professional, hard-working, attentive, bilingual, and accommodating. You can pay by credit card but tips are in cash. You'll go here once or twice and come to the same conclusions.More

Amazing oceanfront views, food and service. Eat 15 feet from the lapping clear waves. We stumbled upon this spot after Yal Ku snorkeling and it turned out to be our favorite of our entire trip! Hammocks, happy hour, a pool, amazing!

Beachfront but the food is horrible. Even the waiter told us that Taqueria Chucky’s in Akumal has better ceviche. The calamari tasted like soggy fried rubber bands. Nice beach tho…

Looked charming and had good rating. Go for the view but not the food. Had grilled tacos de dorado. Oily and flavorless. Had the buena vida margarita. Watery with a hint of pepper. It was like they weren’t even trying. Service was slow and they...were not busy. Sad because it has so much potential.More

Great place to eat a late lunch with kids. They do have high chairs if you find them or ask for them. Possible to pay with international credit cards, but not AMEX. Try the guacamole, kids love it. Bring your own straw for kids.
