Granted, the night we were there the staff was dealing with a large party (12+), but it took absolutely forever to get anyone's attention. This is not typical for restaurants in this town...the waitstaff are nearly psychic. The steaks were good, but the food was overshadowed by the poor service.

This must have been a great place, however, it is closed. I don't know of another place for Argentine food or thick steaks around Patzcuero. Closest I've been told is Morelia. I only write this so no one else gets their hopes up about the steaks, which I have been told were great.

Whether it’s steak, salad, pizza, chicken (yes, there’s chicken on the menu even though the theme is Argentine), or just the kind of hand-formed, honest hamburger like the ones you grew up with, you’ll find it here at El Viejo Gaucho. But you’ll first have to start with the hefty baked empanadas. It’s the law. These empandas are practically a... More

we stopped here by accident on the way back to "la casa encantada" after a saturday night piano recital in the nearby concert hall, and found it to be a welcoming place with some good live music in one room, off the bar. we sat near the bar and ordered some empanadas and a few beers. it's a comfy place... We visited on a Friday night and were really disappointed! The wait staff consisted of one waiter who not only had to build all drinks behind the bar but also had to deliver all the food. There was another specialized guy who did nothing but sit behind the bar and punch orders into the computer and dispense final checks. We... More

The food is good and atmosphere is lively with good local artists offering music on most nights. The service is good and food and drinks are offered late into the night.

El viejo Gaucho is an excellent place to meet people, listen music, have a good drink and dine out. Don't miss the Argentinean empanadas and a clericot glass

Located in the Hotel Iturbe off the Plaza Grande, this is a well-established venue for music...although the service could have been more efficient.

Having had a fairly large midday meal, we ventured into the bar to relax with a few "adult beverages" and some lite fare. I had an assorted Argentine Empanada plate and my better half tried a small pizza. Both were well prepared and served by an attentive wait staff. We found that between the good snacks and good wine &... More
