We both had the weinerschnizel and it was delicious. Service was great. The walls were log and had Swiss decorations throughout. The meat and vegetables were delicious and portions were generous. We enjoyed it thoroughly and will be back
Been here quite a few times over the years and always looked forward to it.....but not any more. Apparently as we were told they have a new chef. We had Jager Schnitzel and grandmas knopfli pot (please see attached pic) which after two attempts we...weren’t charged for as it wasn’t really eaten. I’ll let the pic explain that one but the Jager was sub par to what it once was and can confirm with another review that was also disappointed - that isn’t schnitzel.More
Very comfortable restuarant, extremely busy on holidays so call ahead. Lots of healthy options (fish) and lots of decadent options (knopfli, delicious) and amazing deserts
My wife and I had 2 different schnitzels...mine was with a red wine gravy and mushrooms but it really was just two thin overcooked pork chops with less than rich tasting sauce. That may be a an authentic thing but I have had the exact...same named dish...Jager Schnitzel in other places and I got the traditional pounded flat and tender, bread and fried schnitzel in a much tastier red wine and mushroom sauce. Anyhow, buyer beware on it..ask to know what kind of meat you are actually getting. Now my expectation may have just been wrong..okay...but an overcooked dry and tough piece of meat is an overcooked dry and tough piece of meat no matter what preparation it is. The kicker with this place is that the prices are unbelievably high for schnitzel and what you get in portions. So very disappointing. We almost left after seeing the menu but it is in the middle of nowhere and no other options around. We shared a Ceasar salad...very good. I had the chocolate on top of chocolate on top of chocolate dessert..very good. Service was so-so. Speed not bad but the whole making you feel welcome...not at all. Surprised at that..not rude but not welcoming. Might go back but won't hurry to do so.More
Undoubtedly one of the areas better restaurants, Swiss Country House has a beautiful selection of Swiss, Canadian and European fare, all at very reasonable price points. Not to be missed - Schnitzels, yes, a wide selection wonderfully prepared and served HOT by some of the...most pleasant servers around. Swiss Country House has standing specials, most famously the All You Can Eat Pickerel. Tender, succulent pickerel with a fantastically light batter/coating presented every Tuesday evening. The scenery is gorgeous. A cascading waterfall that flows under a picturesque bridge is only the beginning of views. Many restaurants would envy the views of the lake and, in the fall, the colours of brilliant leaves all around. The spacious dining rooms make for quite comfortable seating and you can make reservations for almost any number in your party. RESERVATIONS: a special note. If you are planning on the Pickerel Special, please try for your reservation two or three days in advance if at all possible. Myself, I have left the reservation a bit late, but will always go another time. Best in the area at the price point, the atmosphete, views, and area scenery.More
Sat down and waited over an hour to be served. Food came out 1 meal at a time. First person finished eating before the last was served! Food was very good, restaurant is quaint, but it all goes out the window with poor service. Apparently...they have a hard time staffing from the local area. Sympathetic, but at the same time they can also limit seating to their capacity to serve.More
Made a reservation for six of us for the pickerel night all you care to eat. Four of the group had never been, being from Tennessee and Florida. All of us ordered the pickerel. It was terrific. Nicely done, certainly not dripping in grease or...oil. And yes most of us had second helpings and some had third and then some more. Excellent, as was our server, Holly. Very pleasant and attentive to our needs and questions. Highly recommend this placeMore
Food and service was amazing. Schnitzel was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly and made sure we had a great time. We will definitely go back!
We've been here many times over the years, and the place never disappoints! (The resort is wonderful as well...good rates for such a nice location!). Great European inspired fare, but also your traditional lake resort stuff (fries, chicken fingers, etc.). Brunch is a bit on...the pricey side, but worth it! Special note about the bar: amazing bartenders, amazing draft beer selection...ask for an authentic whiskey sour; will put anything to shame that you order in a pretentious Toronto bar. FIVE STARS!More
