We stopped for breakfast on our way from Baddeck to Cheticamp and it was so good we ordered lobster sandwiches to go. Thick sliced homemade bread, fresh pastries, good coffee... Welcome addition to the area. Nice way to pack a lunch for hiking in the national park, if you remember your cooler.

Lover there fresh sandwiches, served on fresh baked bread. The deli options with cheese and meats is not what you'd expect on the side of the hwy in Cape breton. Its defiantly a must stop even to look around the smells of the fresh coffee and deli you'll find something to buy.

The Herring Choker has the best homemade bread you will find in Cape Breton...the sandwiches are by far top of the line...you will pay a little more for them but it is worth it. A must stop if you need a bite to eat. Keep in mind this is a seasonal restaurant and not open in the winter months.

This seasonal restaurant is a very nice restaurant right on the side of the Trans Canada Highway which makes for easy access. They serve a terrific burger, sandwiches, baked goods, and a terrific cup of coffee. Their friendly servers are efficient, speedy, and helpful which really justifies their reasonable prices.

Had read the reviews and was hoping for/looking forward to a nice lunch of chowder on our way back to Halifax. Immediately we were taken aback by the unfriendly gal at the counter and felt like we were unwelcome, to the point of almost leaving. The chowder was ok, but the biscuits that accompanied our meal were cold and heavy.... More

Loved the coffee, the food, the service and the couches! We came here for lunch once while we were in the area and were hoping to return but ran out of time. Loved the soup, sandwich and coffee though and wish I would have had some room left for the dessert. We sat by the fire with our coffees for... More

The three of us had lunch at this deli several miles south of Baddeck. Attractive, interesting, slightly-quirky place. Great, big sandwiches and baked goods, and decent prices. BTW, the name is slang for someone from the province of New Brunswick. It does *not* refer to some sort of psychopathic obsession with small fish :-).

We spent three nights in the Baddeck area and unashamedly ate two breakfasts at The Herring Choker (the third we had leftovers from dinner). The atmosphere is inviting, the staff gracious and welcoming, and the food is excellent. Everything is fresh and flavorful and very reasonably priced. Make sure, if you go, to check out the baked goods. The pastry... More
