This is a quite cosy place, despite being located just at the very busy lake promenade. Explanation of the title of the review is connected with our experience. We came right at the moment of our reservation. We got our table and menu cards and than … we were waiting for 20 minutes to gain attention of the staff. Finally I have asked if this is the standard of this restaurant and since than …things improve dramatically. Service started to take care about us and what is important, we were delighted with our food and wine order. We can recommend a super variation of a Cesar Salad and also turbot served as main dish was very tasty. Selection of Ticino region cheeses was a cherry on the cake of our dinner

During Locarno film festival, there are lots of overpriced places with mediocre food. What an exception the Centenario made! Located directly at Lago Maggiore, it’s still a bit away from the crowds and quiet and cosy. Excellent local food with a very creative approach. Professional and very friendly service. The wine recommendation was super, and was served just at the right temperature. The prices are reasonable. We will definitely go there again next time we visit Locarno.

We've visited the Osteria de Centenario for a special occasions dinner. The food quality, presentation of the plates and concept of the dishes clearly surpassed our expectations. In combination with the excellent service and unique ambiente we've had an extraordinary experience. With absolute certainty I can state that in all my life I have never dined better! A very modern restaurant with special cool “charm” have made us feel uncomfortable from the ambience.. no italianita.. The menu offers plenty of bells and whistles for eating fancy chicks. The dining room inside is simply furnished with plenty of space between the tables. The tasting menu began with amuse bouche and gourmet-style appetizers. Dining on a perfect day, beside Lago Maggiore. Nice service and very nice food. Had a spiced watermelon with local creamy cheese and crisp pancetta. Then branzino special with zucchini wasabi sauce. Could detect no wasabi, sad, but it was still pretty good. Cheeses afterwards and a very interesting unfiltered wine.

It is always a pleasure to return to the Centenary, and last night was really a perfect evening! Delicious ceviche of tongue and mussels, lovely sweets with green curry, enjoyable Catalan hay. We booked a meal here on Saturday and went for the tasting menu. It was superb. Gnocchi with fera, excellent fish and then a delicious chocolate mouse. Small potions but sufficient. Definitely recommend
