I stopped in after a long day of driving and was welcomed by a very friendly staff. I enjoyed a bottle of Santa Margherita Prosecco and some fried chicken. It was perfect.

Decided to go for a kids free dinner with my in-laws. We didn’t have reservations but were able to secure a couple of round tables near the front. Our waiter suggested the butterhorns and they were delicious. One per person is plenty unless you want...to ruin your dinner. I’ll start by saying I’m not really a fancy food person so realize I’m coming from that perspective. We had another appetizer (Arancini) that was so so. The wait for the food was pretty long but the waiter did apologize that they were backed up and said it would be out soon. We heard a crash of dishes and I was praying it wasn’t our food. Not sure if it was or not but the food still took a long time after that. My husband and brother in law ordered steaks and they were done to order. My husband couldn’t handle the amount of peppercorns though. I stole a fingerling potato off his plate and it was tasty. My sister in law had the Mahi mahi and she said it was good but soooo many jalapeños. I had a cheeseburger (yes I’m that person) and asked for it well done. It still came out pink. I sent it back and it was a little better but still not fully done. I know some chefs may have an issue with cooking it that much but I’m the customer after all and that’s how I like it and I’m eating it. The fries on the side were just simply completely overdone. Super super crispy. The atmosphere was lovely and the bathrooms were very nice, but I probably won’t be rushing back.More
One of the best meals I’ve ever had! Jerk pork chop was excellent! Nice wine list. Great service. Very nice atmosphere. Recommended!
First of all, expect the butterhorn rolls to be a big order -- even the three was too much for a couple. To be honest, didn't really like them, not my favorite dinner roll. Anyway, the Walleye fish cakes were good. The beet & pumpernickel...salad was weird. We expected a slice or maybe croutons, but what we got was pumpernickle crumbs, a lot of them, spread on the salad. The shrimp cocktail was great. The trout with barley "fried rice" also very good. Olive oil chocolate cake good, especially the goat cheese & cherry ice cream. Good service, high ceilings, but hard surfaces, so still noisy. There is a parking garage nearby.More
Had s delightful dinner! Huge shrimp on the shrimp cocktail the beet and pumpernickel salad to die for. I could eat a huge bowl. Creole Chicken Roulade cooked to perfection with smoked rice delish beans. My hubby's Tater Tot Hot dish was do good he...wouldn't share. Wish I'd have taken pictured! From 2 to 10, it was s 15!More
Elegant menu - and decor. Little noisy. Seasonal menu so check it online before coming in. They have a chicken sandwich & a hamburger for the less adventurous eaters in your group. Extensive single glass wine list. Great service.
While exploring downtown Bismarck we found Butterhorn a pleasant surprise when you enter it is absolutely beautiful with with a historic elegant vibe, calming colors and tin ceiling, rich woods that made you feel comfortable, we had the Shrimp Scampi that was some of the...best I've had , lots of tender shrimp, tomatoes, pasta cooked to perfection with a lemony rich sauce, plentiful portion, the cocktails were amazing, I had the Pineapple Basil Fizz, for dessert we had the Bread Pudding and Chocolate S'Mores cake with homemade marshmallow, prices were reasonable, service was friendly and prompt, food arrived piping hot, the staff was great and kudos to the chef, unexpectedly high quality for everything, when we go back to North Dakota will make sure to visit again, highly recommendedMore
Delicious food, this place would thrive in any major city. Very cool atmosphere, and unique menu. Fresh with top-notch quality.
It never fails The hospitality of Shane's employees and the wonderfulness of the chef's creations keep me coming back here it seems like a long time but it's not
First time at Butterhorn and wasn't sure what to expect - had takeout so this review is limited. The Walleye Cakes were superb - fresh, cooked perfectly and nice size. The BEST was the salmon. This was "Caraway Seared Salmon" with Barley & Beet Risotto and...Asparagus. Every element was fabulous. Perfectly cooked and delicious. One more thing - the salmon was not a tiny piece as is often served but a nice size. Loved every bite.More
This place is simply wonderful. The hospitality of Shane and his staff makes this restaurant stand out from all the rest in this town. From the crafting of great cocktails by Jessica, to the wonderful dishes made by the Chef. Food menus changes from time...to time and so does the craft cocktail menu. Very few restaurants change their menu. There may not be linen on the tables, but this is fine dining.More
In Bismarck from NYC for the Holiday visiting family. 9 of us ate dinner here. Everything from the drinks to the service to the food was top notch. We had a variety of appetizers: Walleye Cakes, Meatballs, Baked Brie, Beef Carpaccio. All were excellent in...the taste and presentation. I’m kind of a meatball snob and think of it as a dish best made in a home. My daughter told me they were the first meatballs that could rival mine!! For entrees we have the Steak, Salmon, Gnocchi, Spaghetti, Soup. The food rivaled some of the best restaurants we’ve eaten in NYC, Chicago and other large cities known for their food. Great job and will definitely come back.More
We started with the butterhorns and they were so rich and fluffy. We enjoyed the salads and steak for our main. Food was very good and seasoned well. Our server was nice and attentive. Will return for another date night.
With apologies to Steve Martin: "The new menu is here! The new menu is here!" Had an excellent evening yesterday, well up to the standard set on our previous visits. Was excited to see what would be on the spring menu and wasn't disappointed. The...Tenderloin and Barramundi were excellent. Sat downstairs for the first time. Very cozy and private. Service by Chaundra was extraordinary.More
We had a party of six. 5 out of 6 of us ordered the Steak au Poivre Beef tenderloin. Everyone of them were cooked to perfection. The charred Brussel Sprouts were the best I've had.
