Returned to Athena Taverna off Stratford in Winston Salem for a delightful lunch yesterday and found the cuisine so savory I ordered another entree and appetizer for our dinner to great raves at home. Love their grilled & marinated chicken plate--an ample serving--so delicate & succulent. Sometimes I have the Octopus and my wife always looks forwards to take home... More

... I hope the food is as good as it is at Athena Greek Taverna. Portions are generous, everything is fresh, and the flavors are unique and delicious. The menu offers a nice variety of entrees, salads, and appetizers. And, yes, there is even a hamburger. The wait staff knows the menu, the preparation, and they can teach you how... More

When we entered the restaurant I noticed right away the horrible conditions of the restaurant. The floor was dirty and the tables as well. The lamps were covered with dust. We ordered three Greek Salads and grilled octopus and shrimps. The Greek salads were not good. They were full of vinegar, and I couldn't finish mine. The shrimps and the... More

Just what I was hoping for! Authentic fresh Greek food. I had the Vegetable Plate which consisted of Spanikopita, stuffed grape leaves and a large helping of tsaziki. It started with a side of Greek salad which was the best I've had! We shared a piece of Baklava that was absolutely delicious!!! I can't say enough about how good the... More

Recommended by friends whose daughter attended college in the area. Promised we would try it out. Started with stuffed grape leaves and hummus, both tasty. I had the vegetarian mousaka and my daughter had the chicken gyro platter. We both enjoyed our meals. Large portions and dinner included a salad.

My wife and I are originally from Chicago where there are many many Greek restaurants. This restaurant reminds us os some of them. The restaurant itself is rather unpretentious and seems rather drab compared to the brand new shopping center and restaurants that now reside next door to it. But the restaurants in the new center are chains (nothing really... More

Authentic Greek food, lovely staff, fast service, huge portions. Eat here! We arrived after a long day of travel. Not the most posh surroundings, but this restaurant is awesome.

Granted, this is a very "authentic" Greek restaurant in a city filled with restaurants owned by members of our fabulous Greek community. But with that said, the service we received was disappointing, and maybe we just caught her on a bad night. Specifically, she would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time (and there were only 3 other occupied tables... More

Our experience here was wonderful - friendly staff, authentic dishes, and generous portions. The entertainment on the bazouki made the atmosphere seem like I was back in Athens. This is one of the few places I have had tzatziki in the area that is closest to what I had throughout Greece. I loved the spanikopita as well as the moussaka... More
