I usually don't bother dining out on "special" days due to fact that restaurants are usually overbooked, the waitstaff overstretched and the prices are over the moon. Since we had enjoyed this restaurant in the past, I took the chance and booked it for Valentines Day dinner at 6:15 (prime time). I am happy to report that the dinner was (almost) flawless. We ordered a simple starter of three cheese pimento cheese with smoked ham, tea biscuits, pepper jelly & local pickles with a nice bottle of red wine. The wine arrived, but by the time our salad course arrived, the starter had not. That was the only miss, and given the rest of the meal, the least missed! We split the salad of a chilled wedge of iceberg lettuce, Niman Ranch bacon, chives, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrot with Creamy Blue Cheese buttermilk dressing. It was as good as any "wedge" served at the best chop houses at which I have dined. The size of the salad was huge -perfect for splitting, and served with a basket of warm house made bread. Entrees included the 8 oz. beef tenderloin ,customized with duck fat skillet fried potatoes, “drunken” mushrooms and a brandy peppercorn sauce. It was ordered medium rare, and done perfectly. Tender and flavorful. Next was a huge piece of perfectly grilled Chilean Sea Bass served with old bay spiced, grilled baby potatoes, wilted spinach, sherry-leek-pancetta corn “chowder”and sweet summer corn chow chow. Amazing. We passed on dessert, figuring that there was no way to improve on the meal at that point. Note: The missing starter was not on the bill!

Thank you for a lovely review! I’m thinking that the server may have not rung in the starter in the first place - and we are so sorry about that!! I’m delighted you enjoyed everything else and then shared your enjoyment! It means a lot to get this type of feedback and we appreciate it very much!!!

While visiting Wilmington for our 25th Anniversary my husband made a reservation at PortLand Grille and it made our entire weekend trip WORTH IT! I’ll start by saying we’ve eaten all over the map, NYC, Boston, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Vegas, Scottsdale, Austin, Atlanta, Napa:Sonoma, San Francisco, Hawaii, London.... the list goes on. And we both agreed this was hands down in our top 5 meals we’ve ever had! We were seated in a quiet corner (as requested) and had a GEM of a server in Tracy. If you don’t request her, you are missing out. She was beyond helpful, fun, professional, and knowledgeable about every aspect of the menu and the perfect amount of attentive and such a delight! We started our meal with the U10 shrimp (you choose how many you’d like to order) and a glass of Brut Champagne. We then split the wedge salad which I will warn, even as a split, was almost a meal in and of itself but delicious nonetheless! Choosing our entree was not easy as the entire menu looked incredible, but Tracy helped again with that decision and I chose the beef tenderloin and my husband had the duck. I never ever eat duck (not a fan and often find them gamey) but had a bite of my husband’s and it was superb! The sauce alone was out of this world. But my tenderloin filet was the winner here for me. Cooked to perfection at med-rare it literally melted in my mouth with flavor like a pat of butter 🤤. The green beans were perfect and the twice baked potato was also. And again our server paired the perfect wine with it for us after listening to our preferences. Full as we were, we couldn’t resist the incredible dessert menu and opted for the coconut cake I’d read so much about. Be forewarned it is HUGE but just stunning to taste. Not too rich, not too dense, but just the right amount of coconut and sweetness and thank goodness it traveled well as we barely made a dent in it, but again, WORTH IT! Thank you Portland Grille for making our anniversary dinner one for the books 👌🏼

This is very special restaurant with a unique menu and personalized service. Calvin was our waiter for our evening and he made our dinner celebration for my husband’s birthday extra special. I had the sea bass and my husband had the porterhouse. Both were perfectly prepared and the accompanying side options were so unique. Great wine menu too. We will absolutely return.

The place has a nice atmosphere and comfortable seating. as we were part of a party of 8, I ordered crab dip appetizer which was delicious, Bud Lights, and the bone in Cowboy medium rare rib eye steak, roasted Brussels spouts and the fancy french fries. The served plate looked very hurriedly thrown together with the big portion of meat laid on top of the sprouts and the fries in separate container also on the plate. The star of the order the rib eye was over-charred on the outside and it's meat was tough and chewy with an excess of fat, in fact there were several bites that had to be spit out into my napkin, uneatable. I didn't taste any seasoning in the meat and only only got thru half of it before taking the rest home to the dogs. The Brussels sprouts were limp and over done. It wasn't a good meal for me especially considering it was a $170 ticket for two. The tab ticket came back incorrect twice and had to be re issued twice. Like I said it was an off night for a simple meal at the Port Land Grille.

I’m sorry you were disappointed in your steak. I would’ve liked to have been made aware of your issues that night when I checked on you all so I may have been able to address them to your satisfaction but I realize that isn’t always easy - especially in a group setting. Still a private phone call or email would’ve been appreciated. There’s a card in our check presenters with a message to that effect and all our contact info. The 22 Oz bone-in cowboy ribeye steak is cooked on our wood fired grill with a gracious dusting of salt & pepper. We count on the natural flavors of the meat + the char (intended) + the accompanying sauce to complete the flavor profile. Our meats are naturally farmed (no hormones etc) and specially cut for us. Ribeye is already a cut ribboned with marbling and fat throughout hence the hefty weight of each cut. Of course sometimes there will be gristle and excess fat and even perhaps a tough chew or two but usually with at least 16 Oz of beef available on a cowboy - those natural and often unavoidable “flaws” will still provide a more than ample remainder to enjoy. If that’s not the case - we would have happily replaced it or adjusted your bill. We served 5 cowboy steaks that night and no one mentioned anything but raves so I’m guessing your issue was thankfully an anomaly. Our plates are huge and provide plenty of room for the steak and its sides. We have always plated our steaks this way (although the sides will change) but we are always happy to serve each item separately if desired. Again, we would’ve happily brought you another order of Brussels cooked more to your liking. As for check splitting errors, your party of 8 was originally to be a party of 14 split into 2 socially distanced tables of 7 in one room which prevented us from seating any other guests in there. We thought the dinner was hosted (ie one check) by the woman making the reservation. This reservation was made about 40 minute prior to arrival due to a reported snafu (cancellation) with another restaurant. I was delighted to help the hostess save the day for her boyfriend’s birthday dinner and I didn’t blink an eye when 6 of your party didn’t show and we had to use a different second table. When a server isn’t initially made aware that there will be separate checks sometimes errors can be made when separating after the fact and while perhaps inconvenient, they are easily fixed. As are any issues with food. Always let your server (or owner if she comes by) know if things aren’t perfect - we may not be able quickly recook something but we have many ways to offer reparations when necessary. Just give us a chance vs resorting to a negative review. These COVID times are TOUGH and we small indy restaurants need all the love and support we can get. Thank you in advance for coming by another time and trying us again. Be safe!

We were a table of four, out to celebrate my birthday. The most positive thing I can say is the restaurant was clean. It took an hour to get our salad and another hour for our food. When we addressed the manager about the wait, she never really apologized she just had several excuses. By the time our food came my broccoli was chard, I'm not sure I had the correct sauce on my fish and the potatoes were not done. We all had something to say about our food. I have never written a bad review, but this was over the top. Don't bother

We are there last night, the first thing I ordered they were out of, the second thing I ordered they were out of so I settled on a $32 steak. When it came, it was overcooked and I've gotten thicker steaks at Western Sizzling. The sides that came with it were wrong. To top it off I got one glass of wine and it was $18. Don't waste your time on Port Land Grill.

The food, wine, cocktails and service at PLG are always superb but in this time of pandemic safety PLG stands alone as a restaurant that is dedicated to customer safety while diners enjoy 5-star meals. All staff wear masks. Diners must wear masks until they are seated at their tables. Doors, menus, tables and other high-touch surfaces are constantly cleaned and tables are 6 feet apart (on the patio too). Thank you PLG for setting the standard for safe, responsible fine dining!

Port land grille hosted my dinner for 16 guests. We were celebrating 23 years of starting the Airlink helicopter program supporting NHRMC. Because of the Port Land Grille venue and its staff, Eric, Caitlin, Laura, and Brandon, we had a wonderful and memorable experience. As manager, Eric monitored the whole planning and execution process. Caitlin served as my point of contact. She is pleasant, friendly, and competent. She advised, suggested, and recommended throughout the planning process which resulted in the wonderful evening. The food was delicious and arrived in generous portions. The venue was perfect. Port Land Grille has several small rooms of different capacity. Caitlin recommended placing us in their Airlie room (aka the Fruit Room because of the paintings on the walls) with its capacity for 24. They closed the doors and created an intimate room for our dinner and reunion. The room was quiet and encouraged the table talk conversations and hearing the speaker and prevented distractions. But, the people who made the greatest contribution to the event's success was Laura and Brandon serving us. They were attentive, friendly, pleasant, competent, and professional in all its aspects. As lead, Laura explained the menu, clearly answered questions, and quickly addressed concerns. She was in control. She brought out the appetizers, took drink orders, and had them coordinated so everyone was satisfied. She had the main dishes brought out simultaneously so we all ate at the same time. The food was hot and delicious with generous portions. I had requested a special dessert of Key Lime Pie portions. She had them delivered at just the right time. Again the dessert was delicious. During the dinner after they had served the main entres, Laura and Brandon unobtrusively, competently, and professionally attended to our requests, desires, and needs. They made the night proceed smoothly and uneventfully. I highly recommend the Port Land Grille for your future events. They have several rooms of different capacities to handle your event. Their prices may be a bit high, but making the event special and the long living memories they create are worth every dollar you'll spend. I will be returning to the Port Land Grille and intend to plan any of my future events at this wonderful restaurant. Thank you Port land Grille.

Tonight we had an excellent meal and a great time here. Food, service, even outside dining all were expertly done. Preparation and presentation of each course was so well done. The duck breast was perfect as were the sides while my wife’s lamb was tender, juicy and flavorful. A great place to come see.

My husband and I would occasionally treat ourselves to wonderful meals at Portland Grill in pre- COVID times . We returned last weekend for our first post Covid meal out. Much to our surprise, the entrees were very disappointing. I, for instance, always have ordered fish and found it to be deliciously prepared. This time, however, the choices for preparations were not very appealing,. Nonetheless, I ordered the black grouper with quinoa, artichokes, and olives. Unfortunately, the quinoa salad overpowered the fish which seemed to be very bland. I think if we return I will ask for the fish to be grilled with some vegetables on the side. Please simplify your menu!

We hosted our son's rehearsal dinner for 82 people at Port Land Grille and it was amazing in every way: atmosphere, indoor and outdoor venue, service, food, drinks, etc. Owner, Anne Steketee, was a pleasure to work with from planning through the big night. Guests mentioned that it was "the best rehearsal dinner they'd ever been to," "first class," and more. Thank you to Anne and her team!

This is our favorite restaurant in Wilmington. It’s consistently great service, elegant atmosphere and fabulous food. It’s our celebration restaurant. We love starting our evening with a special cocktail at the bar. And Eric made sure we had a lovely table for dinner (reservations are needed). Their menu is so unique and their preparations are inventive and flexible. The wait staff are always friendly and once again made us feel so special. I had a delicious salmon dish and my husband had beef tenderloin. We saved room for their famous coconut cake. If you are looking special evening, this is it. Beautiful seating inside or outside.

Another all around great night at Portland Grille. Our second time back in 3 weeks. They are doing a Fantastic job with social distancing and taking precautions for all to feel safe. It was so nice to leisurely enjoy well balanced innovative cocktails before dinner. The food never disappoints, dinner was delicious. Thank you for all you are doing.

Nice decor with table spacing and friendly server. Appetizers of oysters B, Vietnamese meatballs an A. Entree short ribs B+. Dessert choc torte A. Drinks A Everything but .... the Prime ribeye D. $58. Sauce was horrible. Steak seemed like it sat somewhere before reaching the table. I was never asked if cooked to order (it was). It didn't have much flavor. Certinly not a prime meat to me. Sides were mundane. I told server my disappointment and was ignored. Busy place but ribeyes steaks are far superior at Ruth's Chris and even better at Texas Roadhouse quite frankly. We expected much more here.

Our views are akin to many other reviews. The platters included ingenuous twists on standard entries, from appetizer through entrée. The presentation was delightful. As some others noted, their use of salt is inconsistent with one of our sides, mashed potatoes, palatable but too salty. Still, we ate every bite of what was on the table. The servers are formal, polite, and genial. We will be back. We did not sample the extensive wine list; the beer selection is good.
