If you are an oyster eater, this is a place you must visit. We enjoyed the experience. It was a treat to have a shucker and be spoiled. Look forward to coming back, but wish you had not run out of NC oysters. Ours are the best!

This place is amazing. Although there is a wait, it was definitely worth it. I ordered a 1/2 peck of oysters and 1/2 pound of scallops. The scallops came out perfectly steamed and the shucker for the oysters always made sure my bowl was never empty. Not having to get my hands dirty, but getting to enjoy freshly shucked oysters... Found this oyster bar on trip advisor and decided to based on reviews. Oysters were fresh (raw for me) and beer was ice cold. My shucker was Floyd and he was a straight shooter who was all about customer service. This place is unique and a must visit.

Never been to an oyster shack but been to one now. Everyone on the staff was great . The food was the star and boy did it shine. The shuckers move as fast as you can eat. The sauces made the food even better. They made you feel important. If you come to this area and do not visit sunny... More

The atmosphere is typical oyster bar. Nothing formal about it. Everyone sits around a large horseshoe. A word about oysters. While Sunnyside has the best oysters you will find at any given time, it is important to remember that oysters have to be salty to be good. If there has been a lot of rain in the harvest area (which... More

Very simple fare/menu.Outstanding large salty oysters, great crab legs and shrimp....all fresh! Get'em steamed or on the half shell. They're EXCEPTIONAL both ways. Their shuckers are quick, nice and very entertaining. Most have been there for over 10 years, some twice that. A party of 4 can't eat them as fast as the shuck them. I confess, I've never tried... Make sure you try the special hot sauce. Geezer and Tim took perfect care of us. Try as I might to steam the perfect oyster at home I... More

About an hour east of Raleigh a short distance from the highway is Sunny Side Oyster Bar, a historic restaurant and now one of my favorite spots to enjoy hand-shucked fresh oysters. I've now made the trip from Raleigh twice, and the Sunny Side Oyster Bar will likely become a yearly tradition. I don't recommend the restaurant for anything other... More

Heard so much about this place and could not pass it up on the way from Chesapeake. The food is bare knuckle made with lots of local experience and love. the staff are absolutely awesome. The food is outstanding and this is probably the last original oyster bar in NC and you must visit.

Sunnyside Oyster Bar is a little like stepping back in time, with a large eating room that has an ample amount of counter space dedicated to shucking oysters and providing food to patrons. There is also a large bar area adjacent to the shucking room, where reasonably priced beers are available along with friendly service. When a lot of people... More
