Thank goodness my wife picked The Glass Onion for our Friday dinner plans during our visit to Asheville. The ambiance was great, the food was delicious (she had salmon and I had the scallops special), and the wine was divine! The couple at the next...table asked about our wine, and that resulted in the most wonderful “small world” experience - the husband and I graduated from the same college 16 years apart, so we spent the rest of the evening engaged in a delightful conversation. As they left, they mentioned that The Glass Onion is their favorite restaurant in the area, and I can see why.More

We have visited the Glass Onion on other trips to Weaverville. It is consistently excellent food and service. On this visit I was thrilled with the Diver Scallops over a tasty polenta. Excellent! My husband was thrilled with the hearty tasty Bolognese over Angel Hair...Pasta. The Pear and Beet Salad was full of flavor. Plus their complimentary rolls come out hot and tasty. A favorite restaurant for us.More

Although partner and I liked Glass Onion very much for lunch pre-pandemic, we had never been for dinner, and decided to try it since the restaurant was participating in the WNC AIDS Project Dining Out For Life fund raiser. Dinner met and exceeded our expectations....We mostly chose from the menu of specials including burrata with ramp salad (delicious with the in-house breads) and swordfish on rice pilaf. Partner raved about his entre of wild boar served over fresh, house-made fettucine. The dessert specials -- fresh strawberry shortcake and homemade fudge-mocha torte -- were delicious. Service was very welcoming and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Glass Onion and will definitely be back. It would be great if they could find the staffing to open again for lunch, too!More

The food was disappointingly inconsistent and there was lack of attention to detail. We had a table for 6; half the entrees were inconsistent in temperature at presentation, with cool sides that should have been hot. The service was good but not great.

We ordered takeout yesterday 1.12.23 and all 3 of us were disappointed with our food. My husband's father is from northern Italy, so we know what great northern Italian food is supposed to taste like. This was only mediocre. And for the prices charged, you...should be getting so much more -- even if you order take out. . The Caesar salad was mediocre at best. Just bagged romaine with packaged croutons on it and 1 small plastic container of dressing that was as thick as whipped butter. The pears in the beet/pear/spiced pecan salad were rock hard -- completely unripe and flavorless. If anything, they tasted more like raw turnips than fruit. Note to chef: if you're going to have fruit featured on your menu, plan accordingly so it is ripe when you serve it. No one enjoys eating flavorless fruit. We ordered the wild boar bolognese over fresh fettucini, rather than the rigatoni. The pasta itself was good but slightly undercooked. The sauce however was extremely acidic. My husband had to add a ton more cheese to it just so it wasn't so sharp tasting. And he never does this . The shrimp on the carbonara were very nice sized, but biting into them they were basically raw. The triple chocolate cake and garlic rolls were good, but again we've had better. All in all, we expected more. The prices were paid didn't justify the quality of food we received. The woman who answered the phone and took our order was lovely. Super friendly and kind.More

Glass Onion uses fresh ingredients with a light touch. I would give it 4.5 stars if that was an option. I ate here Saturday and had trouble deciding what to try. Lucky for me they are open on Sunday, so I returned the next day....Over the two days I had the trout. It was prepared with artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes and peppers. So fresh, light and flavorful. One reason I returned Sunday, was to try the scallops served over a carrot parsnip puree. Again light and the scallops were cooked perfectly. The puree paired perfectly with the scallops. The warm date salad was amazing and the pear, beet salad was also good. The down side was that the dressings were adequate, but not anything of note. The pumpkin apple soup was good, but needed some spices added; it was a little flat. I did not taste much ginger, which was supposed to be in the soup. The atmosphere is lovely and if the weather is nice there are cute tables in front of the restaurant to enjoy the sweet down town. Service was impeccable and the pace was perfectly timed and relaxing. Glass Onion is much better than Strada, in Asheville, which is another Italian restaurant recommended to me. I will return when I visit Weaverville.More

Loved this cozy restaurant in downtown Weaverville. From the spinach salad with warm dates, goat cheese & walnuts to the homemade pasta, every bite was delicious! Hubby had one of the dinner specials… bone in pork chop with bacon mashed potatoes with glazed apples. Their...homemade deserts are also delicious… nightly special of an apple pie with cranberries and walnuts. The service was great too. It was a little pricey but we will visit again.More

There were three main dishes (The $34 scallop plate came with three (3) scallops.), two glasses of wine, one salad, one soup, and two desserts. All were well prepared and tasty. With a 20% tip, the meal cost $193.79, just as it would on Wall...Street or central Paris.More

We wanted to find a place near Downtown Ashville and were so happy we found The Glass Onion. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. I had the Trout, my husband the ribeye and my sister and brother-in-law had the salmon and we...we all loved our meals. We highly recommend this restaurant.More

Perhaps our expectations were set too high by the positive reviews but we found Glass Onion a tad disappointing. Our entrees (salmon, seafood ravioli) were fine but nothing extraordinary. The calamari appetizer was disappointing. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside but quite pleasant...on the inside. Note that when making a reservation it is worth calling the restaurant directly. By doing so we were able to get a next day reservation when Open Table said there was no availability.More

We visited this establishment last week on a Sunday after reading a review on OpenTable. OpenTable pretty much has a good idea most of the time on what restaurants are good and this one looked like we would both like it. From the outside the...place looks small and unassuming. That's not a negative at all not in my eyes. Once you enter you will see a cozy Restaurant that is beautifully maintained and the staff that is very willing to help and accommodate every possible need. Yes I have nothing bad to say about the place. I had a scallop special and my husband had the seafood ravioli and both dishes were amazing. I did order the arugula salad which could have been my meal but I didn't realize that when I ordered it. They also gave us complimentary garlic knots that were amazing. We will definitely be going back.More

One of the best meals I’ve ever had!!!! I had a special—scallops and creamy polenta. Absolutely divine. Husband had housemate fettuccini, red sauce and shrimp—delicious. Tiramisu was perfection. Outstanding 5-star service. Definitely favorite restaurant in this Asheville/Johnson City area.

We chose the Glass Onion based on recommendation . Loved everything from the service to the great food . We sat outside and enjoyed a good glass of wine to begin . Our server was attentive and friendly . The menu is limited but varied.... We began with the blue cheese salad and it was fresh and tasty. The rolls are to die for , fluffy and crusty at the same time and in an oil and garlic dip ..We chose two specials; the seared scallops and the lasagna . Both were perfectly cooked and delicious . No room for dessert . We’re definitely going back !More

Glass Onion does not have a dedicated children’s menu we do offer children size portions of pasta with marinara, butter or meat sauce. There are many other things on the menu that we can do smaller portions

They do! One of our party requested gluten-free items on the menu and there were plenty - also - they cook to order so they are very accommodating with allergies and other food issues!
