A++..love the French onion soup. This is one of the great bistros in Waynesville. Put it on your list of things to do in Haywood County.

Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but my wife and I were not happy with our meals last week. The Thai peanut chicken with rice noodles was just OK. But I really did not like their Shrimp & Grits .... the "stone ground grits" turned out to be hockey-puck-hard dried grit cakes that never completely softened in the sauce.... More

We hadn't been to this restaurant in a few years when we visit Waynesville each fall. So, we decided to have lunch there this time in Waynesville. We came at a busy time, but only had to wait a short while. I decided on sweet onion soup and Caesars salad with grilled chicken, while my husband got their roast beef... More

We found The Sweet Onion to be an average place for lunch, with very little special about the place or the food. The French Onion soup and crab cakes were good but there was nothing else to enjoy. They do, however, have a very good marketer who writes interesting ads that made us want to visit. We will not be... More

On a road trip, we stopped in for a quick bite to eat, and though The Sweet Onion is not really a "quick bite to eat place" the staff was very accommodating. We sat at the bar and were able to order off the complete menu. The Lemongrass Chicken Salad was very fresh and tasty, but the Thai peanut sauce... More

My husband and I make a couple trips a year to Waynesville and we make it a priority to eat at the Sweet Onion while we are in town. Great selection of food, it offers something for everyone. It is cozy and perfect for couples and families. If you go during the fall, make reservations (its that good)..

Just ate there. Shrimp pasta, trout, BBQ sandwich, rosemary chicken, bacon wrapped meatloaf, fire roasted jalapeño spring rolls. All great!

We had been here before, knew we would enjoy the food and beverages. It was very busy, of course, but we ordered a local beer at the bar, and were seated soon after. I had the trout, my spouse the crab cakes. Both were cooked properly, the sauce on my trout was delicous, and my sweet potato could have served... More

We have eaten there several times during our RV trips to Waynesville. We even have reservations for tomorrow night! Great food and service. Try the French Onion soup if they have it the day you are there.

A friend and I attended a conference at Lake Junaluska, and we had a few free hours on Saturday afternoon. As we shopped in local Waynesville, we asked several shop-owners where they would suggest we have an early dinner. Everyone mentioned The Sweet Onion, so we stopped in at about 5:00 pm. The restaurant had a very cozy feel --... More
