It was my turn to host our circle of three couples. I wanted to bring in Caribbean food and googled. I found 9.19, took the 20 minutes or so trip to get a plate to taste test. I loved it! I called the next day...to put in my order. I don't eat chicken but the other five enjoyed the Jerk Chicken in addition to what I had: Jammin Shrimp, Rice and Peas, Cabbage with Carrots and Plantains. Oh! The sanitation grade was well in my limitations. The big question: Would I go back? Yes!More

9.19 Island Cuisine is located in the Harris Teeter shopping center off Capital Blvd in Wake Forest. It is a casual restaurant with plenty of parking. I liked that there was a menu on the outside window as that gave me some time to decide...what to try before ordering. You order at the front of the restaurant and can either do dine in or take out. I chose to do take out and went with the small jerk chicken. I debated ordering the large as it wasn't much more but am glad I didn't as the small was so much food. It came with two sides so I choose corn on the cob and the white rice. But I got two pieces of chicken a breast and a drumstick. Napkins and a fork were also included in my to go bag. I will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items and sides.More

Well done! The two large dinners I ordered were really excellent, had enough for a light lunch as well. Staff are all friendly and helpful. It's not Negrill but its really good food

I had read the reviews and kept seeing the pictures of this place. I finally went because I was on capital blvd today. The place is very very clean and the lady that took my order was great. BUT I MUST SAY THE FOOD WAS...NOT WHAT I THOUGHT OR READ ABOUT. I had brown stew chicken and it tasted more like bbq chicken. The cabbage was ok and my rice was bland. I had to use the Grace hot sauce to give it flavor. Very very very disappointed in my experience here. Might give it a try again but I’m still processing it..More

We ate our SUNDAY dinner and we each had different choices Donna's JERK SHRIMP were perfect with the Plantains & Mac 'n Cheese. My GOAT was very tasty with Callalo Greens & Cabbage/Carrot Duo. Everything was nicely spiced & prep was good. Serving size was...generous, spilling over the edge!More

While waiting for my order, the owner approached me with a chicken patty and introduced herself. She told me the origin of the name of 9.19 and chatted with me for a few minutes. The atmosphere is so friendly and the food is absolutely delicious!...It's not an extensive menu but there's plenty to please. Can't wait to sample more!More

i recently went to 919 island cuisine after wanting some Jerk Chicken rice and peas. I was greeted warmly by the owner which is a big deal for me because customer service is everything. I normally get Oxtails when I go to Jamaican restaurants because...the jerk chicken is very spicy and the sauce is never just right in my opinion. I am not Jamaican but I have been several times after visiting this establishment I have found a place where the jerk chicken has the right amount of spice the jerk sauce is so good and the rice and peas had great flavor and they give you a generous portion. I would highly recommend visiting here!More

My husband and myself have wanted to try out this place since it opened. We were excited that they offered whole fried red snapper(we had one while on a cruise on a island) I was not disappointed! The picketed veggies where still crunchy. Plantains were...perfect and the rice is to die for. I can not wait to come back. The only thing that I can possibly complain about was that while the snapper was fried, when they put the veggies on it, it tends to make the crispy skin a bit soggy. Other than that, it was perfect!More

I ordered Jerk Chicken with yellow rice and mac & cheese and Jammin shrimp with plantains and callaloo. Everything was great. I ordered online which was easy and food was ready shorty after I arrived. The atmosphere seemed really nice and I would definitely go...there to sit down and eat. I plan to try the rest of the menu in the next couple weeks.More

I ordered the plaintains, rice and peas, and sorrel drink. The food is delicious. I’m from Bklyn, NY and it’s hard to find authentic Jamaican food. Staff was very friendly and I found the small restaurant just the right size to eat in or take...food out. Portions are plentiful. Will definitely be going back.More

To start, I must say that I've dined at several Jamaican/Caribbean restaurants both in Jamaica, the Raleigh area, and elsewhere. My family and I were very happy to see that this location sprang up along Capital Blvd. very close to Youngsville. We decided to try...it out on a weekday before our kids' swim lessons in the evening. First off friendly staff of 2 women: a very nice Jamaican lady and what I assume was her mother. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived which wasn't a big deal but did provide a little foreshadowing. It was revealed that they had been open for about a month. For starters the menu was fairly limited. Certainly more limited to other restaurants I've been to. I was a bit surprised to see there were no Jamaican beef patties. There were no kid menus either which IMO was an unfortunate oversight/decision on their part. Nonetheless we decided to try out a large order of Jerk Chicken and Goat Curry which came with 2 sides (yellow rice, rice and peas, and plantains. We informed them that we would be sharing with the kids. After a few minutes 2 plates of rice came out with a few plantains. Then 2 ice waters. (There were 4 of us) After some more waiting the older lady brought out 2 cereal sized bowls which contained the entrees we were all supposed to be sharing. One look instantly told me this wasn't going to be enough food for all of us. As it turned out it was more than enough. After a little picking I asked for a couple of extra plates which I assumed would be brought for sharing before the meal came out. The Goat curry was very gamey and had a rather unpleasant aftertaste. Nobody tried it but me. The small bowl of Jerk chicken was very, very spicy, even by my account. My two young kids largely avoided it (even after wiping sauce off). My wife claimed her tongue was being burned off. I tried some and agreed... much hotter than the jerk chicken at Lee's Kitchen or Bahama Breeze for example. A few of the plantains were not completely ripe but the others along with the rice were fine. By this point I had to request 2 more waters for a total of 4 as stated before there were 4 of us. I was really annoyed with having to get up and ask for things I felt should have already been brought to the table on the first take. It almost felt like the younger mother was running a restaurant and that the older lady was cooking Sunday dinner for guests at her home. By this time I assessed the situation: I paid roughly $34 (after tip) for a small meal we all found pretty terrible by all accounts. The fact the meat portions were so small when I paid for the large just added insult to injury. We got up and left completely dejected. The lady tried to make amends and extended a nice gesture with free island drinks while we buckled our kids into their car seats but it wasn't enough to make up for the food, service, and value. I always try to support independent restaurants because there are far too many chains everywhere you go. It's the responsibility of the restaurant, however, to hold up their end of the bargain with tasty food at a reasonable price and we just didn't get that. Everything from the strange restaurant name to the dining experience left a bad taste in our mouths. We're not upset that we tried it out but we won't be back. Judging from the foot traffic at 6PM it appears the busy Wake Forest/Youngsville area either doesn't know about this place or isn't supporting it. I do wish the restaurant all the best, however, and hope they can turn things around by using my review critically and maybe doing some soul searching. My guess is this restaurant will close within a year and be something else like a Subway.More
