Description: CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street...
CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street outside of Saluda, NC. The original owners, the Mehaffeys, opened CARO-Mi Lodge during the months of June, July, and August, and worked the remainder of the year for the Florida East Coast Railroad in Miami, FL. Hence, the name "CARO-Mi" comes from the words "Carolina" and "Miami." Due to the Tennessee Valley Authority condemning much of the area in Polk and Henderson counties around the original location, CARO-Mi opened at its current location in 1957. The Mehaffeys retired from the railroad company and operated CARO-Mi full time. The guest rooms and cabins were gone and CARO-Mi Lodge became CARO-Mi Dining Room. The Mehaffeys retired from CARO-Mi in 1963 and since then the restaurant has changed ownership three times. The Stafford family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. We strive for each and every guest to have an enjoyable and memorable experience and leave with all their hunger needs fully satisfied. We invite you to enjoy Mother Nature's ambiance of the Pacolet River while relaxing in a rocking chair on our covered porch. Whether it is our Carolina country ham (cut and processed in our kitchen), fried fresh chicken, or our delectable mountain trout, among many other options, we're sure you'll enjoy and can't wait to come back for another meal. CARO-Mi is located in the heart of the Pacolet Valley, 3 miles outside of Tryon, NC, at 3231 U.S. Highway 176, Tryon, NC 28782. Reservations are not required but are recommended.

A gem tucked away at the base of Saluda Mountain! Prompt service! Hot fresh food! Polite service! The steaks are grilled to perfection and so tender! The country ham is succulent and wonderful with a fresh made biscuit! The macaroni salad and Caro-Mi special slaw is to die for! I always save the cooked apples for dessert and use a... More

It's a true throwback to dining out 50 years ago. The delicious bread and salads are brought out almost immediately and then the vegetables followed right away with the meat, chicken or fish. Been eating there since my grandmother first took us there nearly 40 years ago, literally! Btw, the Country Ham, red eye gravy and grits are amazing every... More

Friends told us we should make a reservation, but we didn't, and got there shortly after it opened. It was already full, and we were told it would be 30 minutes before we were seated. It was 55 minutes later. My observation was that even people with reservations were having to wait an extended period of time. The food was... More

We are sorry to hear you didn't have a pleasant experience at our restaurant. Just to touch on a few things in your review: The macaroni is a macaroni salad made in house everyday. It is not macaroni & cheese. There is no cheese in it at all. Our slaw is unique and is a secret recipe passed on through... More

We are locals and have been eating at Caro-Mi our entire life. We go at least twice per month. We love Dane, and his Parents. The food, service, and down home feel are something that never gets old. We carry our own wine, and it is served to us for a small set-up fee. The food is Great, Every Single... More

Locals love dining at Caro-Mi Restaurant. If you are traveling through the area, this restaurant will be an experience you will never forget. Quiet, tranquil setting. The food is wonderful, we have tried everything on the menu and never been disappointed. I think my favorite is the Blackened Mahi Mahi. Staff is friendly and attentive. We ate there last week,... A must visit when in Tryon/Saluda area. Great country/family style food and very good service. Like the option to 'brown bag' as they do NOT serve libations. Small corkage fee. Excellent atmosphere and MOST enjoyable setting.

We all had the fried chicken which was delicious! The pasta salad was also good and the slaw was fine. The other sides would have been better had we all gotten more than a few bites as our waitress never came back to our table. She did repeatly come into the other side of the room. I ended up having... More
