My family has been going to Caro-Mi since before I was born. The food is some really good ole traditional southern cooking. It is a cool location, the food is always good, and the tea always perfectly sweetened. This is a must do for anyone traveling through the area.

Very nice setting in the mountains, just outside of Brevard NC. Situated along a rushing mountain creek. Sit on one of the many rocking chairs on the front porch to wait for a table. Choose your entree and you will be served unlimited sides. The place was packed and the staff was running around like crazy. Our waitress was the... More

This restaurant reminded me of my Nana's house. A cozy atmosphere, dishes big enough to share, and sitting out on a rocking chair watching the river go by after was so nice. Dinner for 7 cost about 140.00$ before the tip, which- considering how full and happy we all were afterwards- was entirely reasonable. They were a little relaxed about... More

Caro-Mi is a big favorite. Ambience is different and I find it refreshing. The setting of the covered bridge, creek, porch, all speak Appalachia to me. And then there's the food. The vegetables are served family style and are simple yet flavorful. Steaks, trout, fried chicken and the wonderful country ham are staples that over the years has consistently provided... More

It's the old comfort home style food that North Carolina is famous for. The food is good...had fried shrimp, but I've had better. It is the over all feeling of the restaurant and its setting that is so wonderful. Relaxation at it's best.

Air conditioner is over taxed in the dining room. Guys. You have been running this restaurant since 1945. Fix it. OUT of fried chicken and chicken livers and baked potatoes. Waitress said every night they run out. Well, order more! Menu said chilled Jumbo shrimp. No, they weren't. Canned green beans. Or it tasted like canned green beans. Very mediocre... More

Expected fresh well-prepared trout. Served dry, rather tasteless trout. De-boned table-side, which is a plus. Fried apples excellent, as well as unusual outstanding brined slaw. Service very good and setting beside stream is lovely. Rocking chairs on porch very relaxing. Park in lot or drive through covered bridge for parking. If the trout had been good, the value for price... More

Every time we visit my parents in SC, we make the trip to Caro-Mi. It is a lovely atmospheric place. The staff is always very friendly. The prices are very reasonable. But the food is magnificent. It is family style with refillable bowl. (Other than the meat portion). The cabbage salad, biscuits, apples and macaroni salad are beyond describable. We... More

We love Caro-Mi. Slaw is the best, vinegar based but oh so good. Biscuits, cornbread, Slaw, macaroni salad to start served family style. Trout is boned right at your table, fried chicken is excellent and juicy. The chicken livers, ah the chicken livers are SUPERB! Dorothy, waitress, has been there 20+ years and is just the best. Nestled by flowing... More

This restaurant has been operating for 50+ years and has become famous around the area for the quality of the meals. It is located in what was once a residence, which has been divided up into a number of dining rooms. My wife and I have been eating there since before we were married, and we've never had a bad... CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street outside of Saluda, NC. The original owners, the Mehaffeys, opened CARO-Mi Lodge during the months of June, July, and August, and worked the remainder of the year for the Florida East Coast Railroad in Miami, FL. Hence, the name "CARO-Mi" comes from the words "Carolina" and "Miami." Due to the Tennessee Valley Authority condemning much of the area in Polk and Henderson counties around the original location, CARO-Mi opened at its current location in 1957. The Mehaffeys retired from the railroad company and operated CARO-Mi full time. The guest rooms and cabins were gone and CARO-Mi Lodge became CARO-Mi Dining Room. The Mehaffeys retired from CARO-Mi in 1963 and since then the restaurant has changed ownership three times. The Stafford family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. We strive for each and every guest to have an enjoyable and memorable experience and leave with all their hunger needs fully satisfied. We invite you to enjoy Mother Nature's ambiance of the Pacolet River while relaxing in a rocking chair on our covered porch. Whether it is our Carolina country ham (cut and processed in our kitchen), fried fresh chicken, or our delectable mountain trout, among many other options, we're sure you'll enjoy and can't wait to come back for another meal. CARO-Mi is located in the heart of the Pacolet Valley, 3 miles outside of Tryon, NC, at 3231 U.S. Highway 176, Tryon, NC 28782. Reservations are not required but are recommended.
