Local Sourcing the Crowning Touch

Live Oak is a Southport classic which keeps evolving and gets better and better. In days past, one could not dine here without a reservation. That's right; you were actually turned away if you dropped in by chance. Thankfully, that "see up your nostrils" attitude has disappeared and the atmosphere... read more

During the winter months, Live Oak Cafe hosts a wine dinner on a Monday evening. We attended their Christmas wine dinner with another couple. The Olde English Christmas menu included roast goose and all of the fixings. Great wines were served to complements this wonderful dinner. Everyone had a great time.

Four of us, who live locally, went to dinner here this past weekend. I had a $10 coupon and intended to use it since it was expiring soon. It was buy a dinner and get $10 off one of equal or lesser value. Three of us ordered a dinner that was considered smaller portion of a regular one and one... More

The food is consistently good and I've never had a bad meal at this restaurant. Both the fresh and well prepared fish to the quality meats that are cooked to order have never disappointed. The atmosphere is cozy and quiet and well worth a visit

We live in Southport and go to most of the area restaurants. Live Oak Cafe is our favorite by far. It is a small, intimate restaurant under a huge live oak tree. The menu is diverse and the food is outstanding. Our menu favorites are shrimp and grits; scallops au gratin and seafood crepes. Most menu items are now available... More

Had dinner with another couple back in August and have to say we were underwhelmed. The food was just "ok". Service was very good and everyone was friendly. But, for the price, I was expecting bigger and bolder flavors. I had a mammoth pork chop but it just wasn't that tasty. Probably won't be back.

While visiting the southport/St James area we decided to eat at Live Oak We'd heard good things and seen good reviews. It just wasn't that good. We were seated inside next to a party of 6 that were really loud. We should have asked to be moved to the screened porch. The weather was suitable and the atmosphere would certainly... More

Looking for something different than the standard beach food fare? The Live Oak Cafe is a fine example of excellent cooking using the best locally sourced ingredients, drawing from the abundant seafood available and traveling as far as the Piedmont and Western North Carolina for its meats and produce. First off the service was friendly, knowledgeable and personable. The wine... More

We love this small restaurant that serves local farm to table food. Last night we shared the best shrimp and grits we have ever had. The portion was more than enough for two. The spinach salad was fresh and delicious. The deserts sounded amazing but we were too full to try anything. The staff was very nice and efficient. They... More
