Food was good but I'm not much for all things fried. Service was brisk and friendly, but it reminded me of a cafeteria style eatery more so than a restaurant. Menu had enough decent options, but, I probably would not go back. Pork was pretty good and the 'side stew' was decent. Didn't have any room for dessert.

It's the real thing!nothing fancy here but the food was awesome. Typical North Carolina barbecue. Love the pork, veggies, service was quick and efficient. They start you off with a free dessert. Loved it.

My in-laws live in Smithfield and we go to Holt Lake everything time we go down. Food and service is outstanding. There BBQ chicken they serve only a couple times a week is some of the best chicken I've hate anywhere. Totally recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

Holt Lake is a great place to go for seafood. The daily specials are good too. I am not a fan of their BBQ though. The staff is courteous and you get your food quickly. They start you off with a dessert of the day. After all, life is short- eat dessert first!

This review is all about the chicken livers. I constantly seek out restaurants that serve this simple "homey" item. Often, I am disappointed. The livers are usually over breaded, over cooked or both. Holt's livers are fresh, well seasoned and perfectly fried. I have eaten them at the restaurant and ordered takeout. To be fair, my family also say that... More

Not a fancy location but very clean and easy to move around in. My wife got bbq and Fried chicken and I got bbq. Pure simple was not good in flavor, very bland taste. Been few years since eating bbq in Smithfield but this really was gisappointing, should have gotten seafood.

Wonderful food and atmosphere! Best hush-puppies, trout and sweet tea I have ever had! Great prices too! Waitress was down to earth and very sweet! Definitely coming back!

If you like Carolina Style BBQ this place is for you. No fancy style. Great hospitality. Free dessert is served before you even order. Unless you are really hungry the small portion is plenty of food!
