If you are driving thru Smithfield North Carolina, make it a point to stop here for bbq. The pulled pork, ribs & Brunswick Stew are incredible. The people are even nicer. Great mom & pop style bbq joint.
Now living in Georgia and unable to get Eastern NC barbecue we stumbled upon this place during a trip to Goldsboro. Huge servings of great food!!! Friendly helpful staff!!!! We will return the next time we are in the area. And we found out the...ship their barbecue to most places in the eastern US What a find!!!More
A great place for our family dinner; I highly recommend! Trying to choose a central location is challenging, but I picked a winner with White Swan. We were set up in a private annex, which gave us freedom to get up, move around and visit,...and we were all totally comfortable. Having young children, this was definitely a plus. And then the food… It was all delicious. Definitely some of the best fried chicken and barbecue; everyone agreed on this. The apple cobbler was a great dessert choice. Linwood was great to work with, making the reservation, and our waitress was the best!More
I grew up in eastern NC and my son loves BBQ. He in MO near Kansas City and he likes to sample BBQ from all around. We have been to Parker’s, B’s, Wilburs, etc. He was home for a short while so I decided to...try White Swan. I was impressed. It is obviously a locals joint but after a few glances we placed our order. The owner come over and checked on us. My son said the BBQ and fried chicken was great! I had the fried flounder and it was huge and wonderful! Definitely a Laplace to check out!More
Great place for traditional Eastern NC barbecue, fried chicken, Brunswick stew and all of the other dishes known to go with this delicacy! Locally owned and operated gives it that true "hometown" feel!
This family-owned restaurant offers good Carolina BBQ. We went to the original location in Smithfield which felt ‘off the beaten path’ yet was a convenient stop just south of exit 93 off I-95. It’s a ‘no-frills’ kind of place with very friendly staff & fast...service. The complimentary hush puppies were to die for and the food was awesome: perfectly fried shrimp, slow cooked BBQ pork, sweet cole slaw and potato salad. The fried chicken looked amazing too. While they don’t serve beer or wine, the iced tea was very good. Their BBQ ‘sauce’ is a homemade vinegar base with spice so very light (don’t expect it to be saucy). This was a good choice for us and a nice diversion from the monotony of I-95.More
The hush puppies here are seriously good-- light as air, and as tasty as a plain doughnut served hot off the grill. There are a lot of good hush puppies being served up in North Carolina barbecue restaurants, but we would rank these the best...of them all.
We both tried the Brunswick stew, which came loaded with smoked chicken and the traditional veg. It made for a nice, light lunch, but we found it to be bland. Our taste runs to the kind of spicy stew being dished out at Heirloom Market in Atlanta, so here we added a lot of pepper to bring a basically good dish more to life.
The pulled pork holds its own against its North Carolina competition, but what we ate at the restaurant was not as good as the leftovers that we doused in sauce from the Skylight Inn. Neither of us cared for the sauce that we found on the table at the restaurant.
Whatever else you order off the menu, we strongly recommend that you try the hush puppies. We ordered a couple of dozen to go, and began happily eating them for breakfast the following morning.More
