The Purple Onion Cafe opened on Main Street in Shallotte in 2004. Since then they have become a community favorite serving locals & visitors breakfast and lunch with a delicious menu of pastries, traditional breakfast items, burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts.
My husband and I just went to pick up an order that we called in from the day before, but we decided to give their breakfast a try. Boy, we are so glad that we did. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Our order...was came to us very quickly and we both received more than enough. It it tasted so amazing. We can't wait to be down in that area again so we can go back. We definitely would recommend Purple Onion to everyone.More
After years of driving by, we finally stopped here for lunch! It did not disappoint! Promptly greeted and seated. Everybody was friendly and answered all our questions! We ordered Crab Cake Sandwiches which were DELICIOUS!! The homemade chips were a little undercooked but I'm willing...to overlook that! Dessert was amazing..got it to go! I would recommend the Purple Onion and will definitely return!!More
Seven years ago our son was married and we stumbled upon the Purple Onion. We’re back in town for vacation and decided to stop back for lunch. I’m not a fan of onions (and a few other veggies) so I ordered the chicken quesadilla without...onions or green peppers. I was told no problem. Problem. When I picked up the first piece, an onion fell out. So, I went looking for more. And, lo and behold, I found more. The flavor was good and the home made chips are tasty too. My wife loved her chicken salad on a grilled croissant. All in all not terrible, but having to pick out things I don’t like sorta took the fun out of the visit.More
While waiting to be seated, a man and a boy came in and man cussed because he had to put a mask on for entry into the restaurant. Then we were seated and it took some time for a waitress to come and ask for...our drink order. When she did, we were also ready to order. The menu is a little misleading as one biscuit is actual a whole biscuit cut in half which is kind of "two" so one would have been enough if knowing such was the order. Usually you receive two slices of bread for french toast however not with an egg. The coffee was good. Another waitress filled up the coffee cups.More
We had several meals in this restaurant during our stay at Holden Beach. The food and service is good. My favorite is big onion breakfast - you get to sample a lot of the food. I ordered an omelette before, but the veggies inside were...raw and not sautéed, so I religiously order big onion breakfast since then. Coffee is ok, it could be stronger.More
