The Crab Shack deserves my highest recommendation. We made our first visit yesterday and returned today. Their lunch specials ($12.95) included shrimp of course, baby founder (your choice of fried or broiled), crab cakes, jumping mullet with two vegetables, hush puppies and iced tea, I...chose broiled flounder (delicious with your choice of seasoning). The pasta salad and field peas (and hushpuppies) were delicious. The service was excellent: efficient and friendly. I asked for iced tea to be "half and half" (sweet and unsweetened) and it was perfect. (I knew in advance that I would have to wait a few minutes for my broiled flounder and it was worth the wait.) And I should mention that all of the tables have at least a view of the waterfront. And don't forget to walk next door to visit Willis' Seafood Market. A good 'ole fish market that you wish were where you live.More

This restaurant was highly recommended and I have no idea why anyone would consider this food good. It was the worst seafood I have had. Everyone I was with for this meal was disappointed in their food. No flavor, crab with the shells mixed in,...green beans seemed to be canned. This seemed liked cafeteria food. Don’t waste your money.More

The reviews told me what to expect- a family restaurant with great local seafood. They were 100% spot-on! The service was warm and friendly, and my grilled shrimp were delectable. But the hush puppies they brought out first? Those stole the show. My husbands crab...cakes & fried shrimp were the best I’d had on the island (well- these and Big Oaks shrimp burger!). Get there early (especially on the weekend) to avoid the wait.More

Qe were on Thursday night. The positives? We did not have to wait and the waiteress was great. Otherwise we truly do not understand what the rave reviews are about. The green beans tasted canned. The shrimp was rubbery. Crab cakes were burned on the...outside. The she crab soup did not have any crab and not much flavor. The combo platter seemed to have frozen deviled crab you can buy at the grocery store. We will not be back.More

My family has vacationed in the Morehead City/Salter Path area for well over 60 years. My mother's favorite restaurant in the area is The Crab Shack. However, my immediate family has never dined there. But that all changed recently when we visited The Crab Shack...on the last day of our vacation. Even though the restaurant was crowded (remaining lunch crowd) we were seated quickly and had an excellent view of the water outside. Megan, our waitress, took our drink orders and returned with water, sodas, AND a basket of hot hush puppies. We munched on the hush puppies while Megan took the orders for our entrees which arrived a short time later. We all feasted on fried clam strips, Old Bay boiled shrimp, grilled shrimp, and grilled tuna. The side dishes we chose were fried okra, baked potato, French fries, and cole slaw. Everything was EXCELLENT!! And Megan was attentive and helpful as well. So.... I highly recommend The Crab Shack for Southern Style seafood when you are in the area. My family will definitely return next year! Now, I would like to address the few negative comments I noticed in the reviews: The Crab Shack (and other area restaurants) serve Southern Style dishes. This includes grits, baked sweet potato, pinto beans, fried okra, and cole slaw. If you are visiting from another region of the country, and don't have the palate for Southern Style food, then it is unfair to leave a negative comment based on food choices alone. In addition, if you are in a hurry or have limited patience, then a better choice would be a fast food restaurant. It takes time to prepare fresh seafood and do it right. And at The Crab Shack they DO IT RIGHT!! Another consideration when choosing to dine out is the current staffing situation in the post-Covid era. Most small businesses (and especially restaurants) are having a difficult time acquiring and keeping qualified help. Therefore, many restaurants are shorthanded, so a little patience is in order. So.... after visiting The Crab Shack, I can now see why it is my mother's favorite area seafood restaurant. And I highly recommend it to one and all!!More

Food was awful. Tasted a lot like cafeteria food. Took forever to be served. Grouper was cold and overcooked. Not worth $30.00. Cannot understand how this restaurant is so highly rated on TripAdvisor.

We had the pan seared shrimp and scallops (good flavor and texture) and steamed blue crabs as entrees. They gave us a couple extra crabs since they were small but they tasted very good. However, they were certainly a lot of work to get to...the meat (as is the case with all blue crabs).More

Excellent food. Great server. We’re not a seafood family and this food was great from the hush puppies to the grilled shrimp to the lobster tail to the crab cakes. Generous portions too. Would highly recommend.

Warm hush puppies were brought to the table as we decided what to order. The local blue fish and the deviled crab were excellent.

Friendly and helpful waitress. The hushpuppies were plentiful and so were the portions of crabcakes and shrimp. Overlooking water and a great experience for all.

We were staying nearby and had heard good things about this restaurant. We drove in having been on the road for 10 hours. Missed service at this restaurant by 3 minutes. However, wait staff took one look at us and realized my child just needed...something to eat before bed. They very kindly brought her some chicken and fries to go and refused payment. They didn't have to let us get any food but they did, and with a smile on their faces. My daughter enjoyed her meal and I enjoyed a warm glow in my heart caused by the kindness of strangers. Highly recommend!!More

Every visit to Emerald Isle requires more than one stop at the Crab Shack. Had dinner one night and then brought friends for lunch. The staff works very had to bring your food quickly and are friendly at the same time. Would not want to...guess how many steps that take in a day. Food is always excellent and the portions generous. Although prices have increased this year still an excellent value. The atmosphere is what you would expect for beach seafood restaurant!! Will be back in October to see our favorite waitress, Megan.More

Fried food came out fast but it was cold. Onion rings , crab balls would have been good if they were hot. Probably held in a warming bin. Fried clams were just some deep fried crumbs. Not much clam to be found. Fried shrimp was...good and the chowder was good. Server did not seem friendly but it was very busy.More

The dining area is small so get there early! If you have a wait, enjoy a walk around the deck looking at the boats on the sound. All tables have waterfront view, and the dining area has that old fish camp vibe. We ordered from...the senior menu and had plenty for dinner. I recommend the crab cakes. Staff is friendly and efficient. The Crab Shack will be closing November 1 through the beginning of March.More
