When I first arrived & looked at the menu, thought the prices were great & the selection on the menu terrific. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries and the wait was over 45 minutes, had to ask as we sat there like idiots. In the end...had to ask that the meal be make take away as we had to get back to work. The food was frozen supermarket quality heated up, burger bun had been frozen and thawed out & the burger patty was a cheap supermarket quality. And the chips were so greasy I could barely eat more than a couple. Customer service not exactly the best either, one attendant seemed to act like it was above her to serve customers. Basically an overpriced bad McDonalds burger. McDonalds food is gourmet compared to this.More

Long wait, very average food, not that great service ( young teen at the counter was very rude!). Tasted like defrosted meal that you can get from a supermarket :(

Very friendly staff, great food or just to get an old fashioned milkshake. Great retro decore. Worth a visit. Love the old style tables and chairs and the interesting wall art.

The moment you walk into the Retro Diner @ Ipswich you are transported back in time to the 1960's! The whole shop fit-out reminds us of a time long past. Great memorabilia! Great furniture! Great food! Great menu! However what makes the RETRO DINER special...is the people.... Always Happy. Smiling. Good service. Spend 30 minutes at the Retro Diner and you will feel a little happier. More relaxed. For a few moments the world is a little simpler and better place.More

Had lunch here 3 times. Always made freshly. Charge about 30 -50% less than other dining outlets in the neighbourhood. Laminated tables brought back happy memories of visiting my grandparents. Staff always cheerful. I’ll keep going back.

The first effect on the senses is the wonderful environment - then the choice on the menu , there was a vast range - but I had a simple salad, which I asked to have chopped up, as I may choke on large pieces, and...a side of fries. I also had a cold drink - It was all delivered calmly and in the perfect timing, tasty and delightful. Even the music was lovely. Highly recommended.More

Great decor and theme. Staff also in retro uniform and friendly. ‘Large’ Coffee should be called XXL it was huge and nice too. They got my order wrong but fixed it quickly without fuss. Food was simple and tasty. Plate wasn’t full of things you...can’t pronounce! Not busy only half full on Sunday morning when I was there. Definitely recommend.More

I LOVE this Diner!! The music, the friendly staff, and above all else, the good, old fashioned style of food. Full of flavour and great on the hip pocket too! The music coming out of the jukebox is fabulous - all of the old favourites!...the staff look great in their retro dresses and outfits too. When you walk in, you get reminded of Grandmas kitchen with the old tables and chairs that were a part of just about every homeMore

This place used to have ambience and charm with the best toasties in town. Unfortunately the new owners have attempted to remove the country retro Australiana from here and imbedded too much American culture into this once sweet very local cafe. Its confusing with Elvis...rock and roll (which isn't retro) mixed up with pastel walls. The prices are cheap but the food and coffee matches, cheap and nasty. The jug of coffee I had was revolting. There is no barista, no registering the shots and reheated burnt milk. The flavour was literally like a mocona instant coffee with burnt milk on top. This is the worst coffee I have ever had, it was such a cold day and I literally sipped the top of a mug that was 20cm high. If you got my cup back full realise this is because your coffee is undrinkable. The food was nasty, it is old school alright like a very bad 1980's tuckshop, I regretfully ordered a BLT, my turkish bread was not fresh and soft as it should be, it had been frozen and had a weird taste thoughout. The lettuce was cheap iceberg shredded and too wet. The bacon was one piece so short it didn't span tbe length of the bread roll and was so thin the whole experience was tasteless when the bacon should have been the salty star. I requested mayonnaise there was a cheap tasteless thin runny sauce with no flavour, but we were starving and I ate the lot. My friend had a classic breakfast her toast was bread not toast and eggs so well done the yolks were almost hard and the bacon underdone, the hashbrowns out of a frozen packet were oily and undercooked. These are home cooks really lacking kitchen experience no finesse or care on each meal. We ordered for the little one with us and the pancakes were small and cute looking but everything was served on ceramic including the ramekin filled with icecream which slid around on the plate and the cute little bottle of maple syrup was glass, couldn't be opened by a child. No logic and no safety taken into consideration. Also the kids portion was too big for a child. Her mother tried the milkshake and it was so sweet the little girl couldn't drink it and it was another drink left abandoned on our table. This place is definately child friendly but the child's meal came out last over 10 minutes later than the adults, any kitchen knows that meals come out together and children first. Everything came out sporadically and at different times so dysfuctional and disorganised and the owner walked around lost with my coffee not knowing the table. I believe people that like plain uninteresting food or are older and elderly of an era with sugar laden unhealthy options will love this but there is too much competition with good fresh quality food in Ipswich. A cake shop at best but not a diner and NOT a coffee shop. Food is badly constructed lacking flavour, consistsncy and quality. A real lack of hosptiality experience and it really shows in the confusion of everything from service to delivery and bad quality of food. Coffee is a zero and there are excellent coffee shops in Ipswich. If you can't heat basic fresh milk and use old reheated milk you really have a problem, this experience literally left a horrible bad taste in my mouth so much so that I went across the road and bought a coffee. I wont be back and can't recommend this to anyone.More
