Romantic ambience, cute historic venue. On the night we attended we had a bit of a wait for the food to arrive. We enjoyed our entrees and eagerly awaited mains... the steak was good juicy tender nice flavour, the rabbit was the opposite, dry, hard...and chewy. We finished our evening Creme brulee which was perfect in every way. I would recommend The Cottage for a romantic evening where you are happy to spend time drinking wine whilst awaiting dinner. Keep this one for a quiet date night, long conversations and leave the kids at home.More

The ambience was fine, the waitresses were unobtrusive. The seafood linguine that I had heard great reviews about was no better than a packet of noodles. My wifes pork medallion dish was way way way too salty. I have had better cream brulee. The wagyu...was exceptionally good. The champagne was good but not as good as my usual Chandon. My wife and my son gave food 5 out of ten score. I was more generous giving it a 7 due to the exceptional wagyu. Personally, I could not recommend , nor would I visit again. Service was slow.More

Food was absolutely beautiful, I cannot fault it. Lovely ambience and wait staff were great. The only fault we had was the wait for meals.. an hour and a half for mains!! that was pretty disappointing considering the price you're paying for them and it...wasn't exactly a busy restaurant. I would highly suggest quicker service and then it would be a 10/10. Other than that, a lovely night.More

After booking in advance for a special occasion, ( two of us) we were not greeted on arrival. Four members of staff looked at us and looked away and went about what they were already doing. Stood waiting for someone to attend for at least...7 mins, followed by a greeting of “we are not ready for you just yet”. Won’t be long. Meanwhile two more couples arrived and were waiting behind us. Finally after 12 minutes of standing on verandah the staff asked our names for the booking and informed us we’d need to wait our table wasn’t ready. They then asked couple behind us and moved them forward to escort them to their table..........😳 We left the restaurant...... Never to return.More

When arriving 15 minutes early under Covid 19 conditions we cannot seat you straight away. We have two seating times and for those that are on the early sitting we like to allow them the full 2 hours. Under social distancing requirements tables must be...More

It’s really nice to be able to dine in the rooms and on the balcony of such a beautiful, historic cottage. The prices are steep at $39 for a main so I was expecting perfection. After waiting about 50 minutes our meals arrived. I ordered...the 48 hour pork belly which was served with a mignon. Unfortunately both the pork and the mignon were dry. My husband ordered the venison which was overcooked and could have done with some more vegetables. So although the flavours were there with both meals, the proteins were dry. We found the service to be a bit stand-offish and formal. It was not warm, welcoming and friendly and I certainly didn’t feel at home. The following evening we went to another restaurant in Ipswich that was far cheaper with much better food and warm, friendly service which I would go back to next time I’m in Ipswich.More

We had a very enjoyable evening at the Cottage, seated on the front deck with a cool breeze and a view over the city lights. Service was very efficient and professional - we felt well attended to, whilst also being left in peace to enjoy...our meals. We chose a Mushroom Cappuccino taster - absolutely divine, which was perfectly accompanied by a house-made dinner roll and quirky turmeric butter pat. For entree, the cured duck was full-flavoured and perfectly seasoned, and the smoked kangaroo was absolutely divine - a stand-out dish, with the meat falling perfectly apart and a gorgeous jus sauce. For mains, the barramundi and the pork belly with mignon. The barramundi was well cooked and accompanied, lacked a bit of "wow factor", perhaps needing additional seasoning. The pork belly with deconstructed waldorf salad was totally gorgeous - another stand-out dish. Not sure the mignon (pork loin I assume - wrapped in bacon) was necessary - I would have preferred two pieces of the absolutely perfect pork belly. All together a fabulous meal, in a beautiful heritage building, and a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. Thank you to the Cottage team for a fantastic evening.More

Tonight was just a gorgeous meal and such a relaxing beautiful evening looking over the city. Everything, from the warm, house made roll, to the perfectly cooked Brisket & Sirloin, with garlic puree & Paris butter, to my final long black, was sensational. I’ve been...eating heat for 18 months and always am blown away by my expertise!More

it was a special occasion and the restaurant never let us down. Casual but efficient service by the two ladies who handled the evening so well but the highlight was the menu. To the chef an absolutely well done. Apart from the presentation we both...agreed that we could not remember when we last had a meal this good and we eat out regularly. The flavours were fantastic, the linguine was so well done that if I was home I would have licked the plate. I could go on but well done to all and thank you. Adrian and Janet.More
