About
While we have the only "slow-smoked barbecue" in the Rocky Mount area (featuring spareribs, pulled pork, chopped beef and sliced brisket), we also feature thick hand-cut steaks, juicy burgers, and a wide variety of "fresh" seafood. Our lasagna is homemade with fresh herbs. All of our gourmet sides (orange ginger yams, collard greens, coleslaw, potato salad) are made from fresh vegetables -- no cans or frozen! Our macaroni & cheese has been ranked in the top 10 nationally by Travel & Leisure magazine. Our desserts are also homemade, unique and delicious. The jazz-themed restaurant, situated in the neighborhood where legendary jazz pianist Thelonious Monk was born, is the brainchild of Ed Wiley

This place is why we stay over in Rocky Mount when we travel from New England to Florida. They have great craft beer and excellent food.

This was a find! On our way back home to NoVa we wanted to try some Carolina BBQ. After a couple of false starts that led us to chains, we went out of our way to get here. We were surprised by some of the...best BBQ we have ever had. We had the brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chopped beef, potato salad, Cole slaw, fries and Mac n cheese. The ribs and brisket were hands down the best we have had. Service was great. Everything was out doors. We even ordered a fresh peach cobbler. Lots to take home and enjoy tomorrow. You will not go wrong by heading here even if it is out of your way.More

We have eaten here many times and it was great. When we pulled up we saw these tents. We went inside and they said they had only outdoor seating. The server took our drink order and here comes styrofoam cup and a plastic drink and...wine glass. Then the dinner came in a styrofoam carryout container and plastic utensils. Then the flies came and took over. We left most of our food and paid the tab. The server was very good. I am sure we will never go backMore

The waitress and hostess werr friendly, attentive and helpful with menu. The tent outside seating is nice and we'll setup with fans and lights. Tried the pulled pork, Texas chopped beef, beef brisquet and salmon. They were all outstanding in preparation and flavor. Nothing was...dry or chewy. Just expert preparation. Chef came out to check on us and was a very nice guy. With the brisquet being my least favorite of the grouping. The cornbread is top notch too. The sides were good with the star being backed mac and cheese. The portions are very good size. The value is there for sure you get what you pay for. A must stop and I will go again for sure. This us backyard bbq taken to the top. If looking for fancy this is not it but the food so is good it should not matter.More

We were traveling through and looking for quality barbecue for dinner. The Prime Smokehouse was the highest rated place on TripAdvisor, so we gave it a try. Bottom line: great ribs and brisket and well done sides. We will definitely come back when traveling through...again.More

On a drive from up north to Miami I stayed in Rocky Mount and wanted some good Carolina BBQ. I googled for a restaurant and chose these people. Thank you google. The brisket is top notch, the green beans crunchy and delicious BUT, what really...got me was their baked macaroni! To die for. Maybe the best mac and cheese I have ever had. The bar is a nice place to sit and eat and service is on point.More
