Just OK. They do not have any real awesome chefs that can do the really cool amazing tricks and knife play. Way too much rice and veggies and too frugal on the meats. Way too much soy sauce on everything. Biggest complaint and disappointment -...NO SUSHI on SundaysMore

Dinner with friends on a Tuesday Night! Antonio was top-notch as our Chef! Our friends stated they had only been to Ichiban's one likely right after it first opened. My wife and i had been there a year ago for a "Going Away" party. Our...server took drink orders, salad dressing orders and brought the soup. She took our meal orders and then Antonio came and prepared the meals. My wife had the Rib Eye and I had the Spicy Chicken. Everything that came with the meal was in good size portions. We left with to-go containers and will enjoy what we brought home at another time! Antonio was very friendly and interacted with all 9 people he was cooking for. Overall a pleasant evening. A couple of areas worth looking at make sure the trash can as you come into the main entrance is emptied or at least checked periodically tonight it was over-flowing. Check portion control, as much as we like ginger dressing the salad swam in ginger. Again, overall a pleasant dining experience!More

I ordered steak hibachi for delivery through GrubHub. The food was really good! The steak was cooked nicely. One downfall was the lack of napkins and cutlery. I would definitely order from them again.

The main dinning rooms and chef productions are as good as any Japanese Steakhouse, but the best thing there is the Sushi Bar with multiple selections, all made fresh. The service is a little bit slow but worth the wait instead of traveling to Raleigh...or Greenville for comparable fare.More

When we moved to the area we visited and were very disappointed, vowing we'd do our hibachi dinners in Raleigh. Tried again this month, and while it's still not what it could be, they are working to make changes. When we were there last, the...floor was covered with a disgustingly dirty carpet, which has been replaced with tile. Our chef did a good job juggling a table with 4 different groups, one of them a group of 3 with varying degrees of vegan/vegetarian requests, requiring their rice and vegetables to be cooked separately from those of everyone else. Servers were less capable - we had 2, since one was training, yet the soup and salad bowls were never cleared from the table and drink refills were hard to come by. The food was good - although I will agree with another reviewer that the way it was apportioned was not always correct. Mushrooms were prepared separately, and were included as a part of the meals that included steak, and the quantity sent out from the kitchen reflected those mushrooms being split among the steak-eaters - but the chef offered them to everyone at the table, and while the vegetarian/vegan diners were thrilled to get something extra (since obviously they hadn't ordered the steak, which would have included mushrooms) it meant that the steak eaters didn't get what they were due. As the couple at the end of the table, served last, that meant that by the time the chef got to serving us, there were very few mushrooms left - and no apologies. As steak eaters, we got perhaps 2 or 3 mushrooms each - less than anyone at the table, despite them being advertised as a part of our meal. On the other hand, the sliced carrots were more like candied carrots, and very, very good - a surprise. Salad, soup, steak, shrimp, rice, and vegetables were good - nothing particularly outstanding. Management/owners would do well to more closely supervise and train staff. Since you dine next to another group and get to watch what goes on at their table as well as your own, it's easy to tell when service isn't up to par. Whether it's the enthusiasm of the show the chef puts on, or the fact that the table that sat down after you has their drinks and salads before you have either, it's clear that there's work to be done in that area.More

Cook handed out very uneven portions to 10 of us at the table; some very small, others large and he was not friendly.Food was mediocre. Be careful reading the bill. A 17% service charge was added to our bill for our size party then the...credit card bill had it included in the total as the "pre-tip amount" and the tip line was empty before you write in the total!More

We visited this restaurant for a Birthday celebration. They are really good with accommodating large groups as we had about 13 people. The restaurant was very busy and it was a Friday night and one of the hostesses commented at how many people came out...that night. The wait was about 20-30 minutes, which isn’t bad for a Friday night. The waiting area is nice and open with comfy recliner chairs, benches, and a Television. The best part about it for the kids is that they have a fish tank that extends from the wall to the floor. All of the kids loved staring into it to see what they could see. When it was time to be seated, they called our names and we lined up with another family to go to the table. The table seated about 20 people around two hibachi grills. For our group, there were two waitresses and two chefs. The waitresses came for our drink orders and came back for the food orders. The appetizers sounded delicious and someone in our party ordered bang bang shrimp and fried dumplings. They also sell sushi which was a big hit with the other group at our table. Each meal comes with soup and a salad. The soup wasn’t bad at all, more like a chicken broth with heavy stock and scallions and mushrooms, but they were so few and far between, it seemed like it was just broth. The salad was basically a romaine lettuce mix with a choice of two dressings. When the chef came out, the show began! The chef did a good job of entertaining the crowd. Not just from the wonders of fire and balancing eggs with cooking utensils, but because he injected subtle humor and cool interactions with the little ones. He would make a little noise with his mouth as he cooked and joked and soon the kids were making the same noises as they spoke. Everyone at the table received noodles, rice, shrimp, veggies and two type of sauces. The chef made plenty of food as always made sure to check if anyone wanted a little more. He also respected food allergies as we had at least two at our table. He cooked those foods far away from the other foods. When it came time to cook the meat, he cooked the meals as ordered and had already asked for how everyone liked their food cooked. It was hard not to started eating the food before we got our meat, but since the servings were plentiful, there was plenty left when the meat was cooked. Our server was a little slower with the drink refills, but was extremely friendly and would take accountability for forgetting, which is a small thing considering the size of our group. For groups larger than 6, be prepared for the standard 17-18% added gratuity that comes with large groups. We had a great time at the restaurant. They received 4 stars because there was no true kids menu...you child could share your plate for $4, but remember the servings of rice, veggies, and noodles was plentiful. My kid is one of those very picky eaters and did not touch his food. While it is not a huge deal, I didn’t know if he would try something new so I ordered him food just in case. I wish they had a separate kids menu with the normal favorites but I do understand that it is a Japanese steak house. They did allow us to bring a Birthday cake and they sang ‘Happy Birthday’ in Japanese to the birthday girl, which was very sweet! Overall, we would go again if we are in that city and celebrating.More

This was an anniversary dinner for my daughter & her husband plus a 6th birthday celebration for my grandson. We had a reservation but still had to sit and wait....and wait. Called to go to a table with a family of 4 and a family...of 3 which wasn't bad. We had a very new waiter (had to be his first night) and it took him way too long to get our drink order & then way too long to serve it. They stagger the tables so the 2 chefs aren't into each others' show! Also makes it easier on the waitstaff (I've waited a lot in my lifetime). Again it was a waiting game... My son-in-law, who has a short fuse went to complain and next thing we knew, one of the manager's had to come help him get the drinks served and orders taken coz he was getting very confused with everything. When he came to me, I asked for 10pcs of sashimi tuna which really got him coz he didn't know his menu. The manager came to see what was going on and I told her what I wanted and explained that a newbie should not be put out alone until they know the menu better. She told me she didn't know it very well either and I had to hold my mouth because a manager should know what is served so they can answer questions of diners. By this time the other table in the same area as ours was seated, served their drinks and received their salads while we were still waiting on our drinks and orders completed. After a more time went by, we finally started getting our soup. We thought everything was going fairly well, but there were still a couple more snafu's. At the end, nothing was said, no apologies from management, even though my daughter went out to the desk to let the other manager know what happened. After this incident, paying over $100 for the meal (one was a two-fer) and the fact that both manager's knew what happened, I will not ever go back to this restaurant again. Neither will my daughter and son-in-law. There was no excuse for what transpired. I shouldn't have left a tip, but it wasn't the chef's fault as he did his job well. I fault the 2 managers on duty that night!!More

We have been going to Ichiban for years. The food has always been consistently good but the service was terrible the last time we were there. The owner did a descent job of trying to make things right but it wasn't enough. Do not go...here until they fix their staffing problems.More
