I have really, really tried to like this place whenever we went. Compared to the other Italian places in town, it fails in compare with the food, service, wait time and cleanliness. I also found that the price point per serving size was no that...great.More

We're on a quest to try all the Italian restaurants in Rocky Mount, and the food at this one rates up there. Pasta dishes are served with small salads (lettuce, onion, grape tomato, black olive, homemade Italian dressing) and bread (a toasted sub roll with...pats of butter) and run a little over $10 each. I had the cheese manicotti, which was delicious (sweet tomato sauce, plenty of cheese) but was only 2 manicotti noodles versus 3 I've had elsewhere. It was very good and will probably bring me back. Hubby had the baked spaghetti, which was just spaghetti with a layer of cheese laid on top. He was hoping for more cheese in the dish itself (I make it at home that way) so he was not impressed. They offer a $5 individual size pizza at lunch (you pay extra for toppings) and that was good. Heard a group of regular customers order at the next table over, and they all seemed to like the cheesesteaks - we'll have to try those next time. Server was helpful and attentive. Had I not visited the ladies' rest room, this review would be a 5 star. The ladies' rest room (can't speak for the men's) looked like the run down rest room at a gas station. Dark stains anywhere people touched - near the light switch, near the lock, near the doorknob - it was off-putting. It may be that it's not dirt ON the paint, but places where the paint's been worn away (I took soap from the dispenser at the sink to try to clean a spot, but without paper towels (they have an air dryer for hand-washing) I couldn't make a dent) but it doesn't really matter. It looks bad. Either take a degreaser to it to get rid of the stains if it's dirt, or give it all a fresh coat of paint (they're white walls - it wouldn't be hard). I realize I could use a restroom elsewhere before or after I visited, but you've got to figure the employees are using this one - and I'd like to know their hands are clean.More

Portions were just right. Food was served fresh and proper temperature. Decent prices for the food, red sauce could use some more spice, more sweet than tangy.

Not up to the usual standard tonight. Ordered spaghetti with meat sauce. They got the spaghetti right. Cooked well. The meat sauce was anything but meat sauce. Could not see or taste any meat. Basically plain red tomato sauce.

We were surprised to find such good pizza. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. Our waitress (Katie) was very pleasant. The wines were very reasonable, and the pizza was delicious. The sub sandwiches were huge and overstuffed. Would definitely return. One laughable moment though...occurred when one of our party requested a cocktail and were told none of the staff on duty were old enough to mix or serve anything other than beer and wine.More

We go to this restaurant every time I am in time and it is always amazing. I LOVE the eggplant entrees, but today tried the Calzone. It was delicious. Food came out hot and fast. Customer service is excellent. Everyone goes above and beyond to...make your dinning experience wonderful.More

Nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, fresh ingredients and all cooked to order. The Pasta dishes are big enough to share, the sandwiches are on the freshest bread...truly been there dozens of times and it's always good.

My wife and I just visited this restaurant for the first and only time. I read the reviews prior to coming, so I was aware this was a no-frills eatery. We entered and were told to sit anywhere. We chose a booth. The floor was...not vacuumed after lunch (we arrived at 1320). I kicked a piece of thrash out from in front of my booth prior to sitting down. The menu appeared to be your standard Italian menu. We placed our orders, my wife spinach stuffed shells and lasagna for me. Our salad was served first and was composed of lettuce with a lot of chopped ribs, one grape tomato sliced in half, thickly cut half-rings of onion, and an unusually large amount of black olives. Our entrees were served in a oblong macaroni and cheese dish. My wife liked her shells but my lasagna was all sauce and cheese. There was very little ground meat and one layer of noodles. It was basically a bowl of sauce soup with a thick layer of mozz on top. The total bill was $23. Not a bad price for two salads, bread ( sub roll) and two entrees. If, they were made and served correctly. I had to ask the server for a spoon. Then I went to the men's room. Dirty with broken fixtures. It matched the dining room carpet. Our server was pleasant but non-interactive. Go to Mario's.More
