Exceptional food in low key surroundings. Each and every visit to this outstanding restaurant reminds me why I call it "The Best of Raleigh" Every server, every dish and every smile is warm, tasty and excellent. A must go for sure!

Poole's opens for dinner at 5:30. We arrived at 5:35 and got one of the few remaining tables for 4 in the back of the diner. Most of the seats at the bar were still open but they filled quickly. The menu was posted on a large chalk board. Our four orders were, fried chicken, baked trout, pork, and duck.... More

This place is divine. Poole's is not a traditional place; one needs to arrive early (the bar opens at 1700) and put their name on a wait list. There is usually a line beginning at 1700. They begin seating at 1730 and the magic begins. They do serve the full menu at the bar, so one has options. If one... More

The restaurant is small and very loud. Had trouble talking without screaming at each other. Restaurant was full which contributed to the noise level. We only waited a couple of minutes for a table. Food is good but a bit pricey. Mac and cheese is a large portion and tasty. The sides are served family style with all being at... More

Heard the hype about Poole's Diner. The food did not disappoint. Our party of 7 had several apps including lobster salad, pimento cheese and fried oysters. All delicious. For entrees we had short rib, pork shoulder and trout. Sides included leaks, mac casserole and cauliflower & mushrooms. Highly recommend sitting at the counter bar. Fun experience.

All of the reviews mention the great food. Poole's is a must, no question, but you should do a few things. Getting there around 5pm is a great idea, as (most likely, but not guaranteed) you'll get a place to sit. Try sitting at the counter, it's very nostalgic and fun, but sit towards the middle of the restaurant. This... More

From what I have read, there is often a wait to get into Poole's, but our party of 3 was very lucky the Thursday night we went. We waltzed in and were immediately seated at a table. The food is very good - we had 3 different entrees and each was tasty. The highlight is the incredible mac and cheese.... More

Innovative cocktail menu using regional ingredients (scuppernong, for instance), delicious small plates highlighting North Carolina produce and meats, and a very cool vibe make for an excellent dinner choice in Raleigh. Service was excellent, although it's a bit difficult to order, as the menu is written by hand every day on wall-mounted chalkboards. The quality of the food and drink... More

We live in North Raleigh...so we have to get our mind's wrapped around trekking downtown...but each visit is so wonderful!!! Bar opens at 5 pm. If you get there around 5, you should be able to get a seat at either one of the counters. Seating is first come, first served but they will put your name on a list... More

recent early Sunday night, minimal wait, table ready as cocktail order came up...excellent Boulevardier, and martini!... young vibe and energy, but our green-haired waitress took very good care of us "old folks"...Diner food with an upkick, the Royale delicious, straight forward, the trout dish, perfectly cooked and very good, the oyster stew for starters however was super, could have just...
