All of the reviews mention the great food. Poole's is a must, no question, but you should do a few things. Getting there around 5pm is a great idea, as (most likely, but not guaranteed) you'll get a place to sit. Try sitting at the counter, it's very nostalgic and fun, but sit towards the middle of the restaurant. This... More

From what I have read, there is often a wait to get into Poole's, but our party of 3 was very lucky the Thursday night we went. We waltzed in and were immediately seated at a table. The food is very good - we had 3 different entrees and each was tasty. The highlight is the incredible mac and cheese.... More

Innovative cocktail menu using regional ingredients (scuppernong, for instance), delicious small plates highlighting North Carolina produce and meats, and a very cool vibe make for an excellent dinner choice in Raleigh. Service was excellent, although it's a bit difficult to order, as the menu is written by hand every day on wall-mounted chalkboards. The quality of the food and drink... More

We live in North Raleigh...so we have to get our mind's wrapped around trekking downtown...but each visit is so wonderful!!! Bar opens at 5 pm. If you get there around 5, you should be able to get a seat at either one of the counters. Seating is first come, first served but they will put your name on a list... More

recent early Sunday night, minimal wait, table ready as cocktail order came up...excellent Boulevardier, and martini!... young vibe and energy, but our green-haired waitress took very good care of us "old folks"...Diner food with an upkick, the Royale delicious, straight forward, the trout dish, perfectly cooked and very good, the oyster stew for starters however was super, could have just... I have only been to Poole's when visiting Raleigh on the weekends and EVERTYTIME it is worth the wait!!! This time when I came into town, i had the bright idea of going on a Thursday night, as a result, I felt like I owned the place. This is a terrific restaurant!!! Mac n Cheese is a MUST share along... Each of us ordered a different entrée and all were judged superb. The Mac and Cheese was great and the Hummingbird Cake was excellent. The sauces and seasonings made all the difference in our meals. Worth the wait!

There was a line outside at 5:00 pm. The doors opened into this small, dark and dingy ehem "trendy" diner where a girl took our names. We sat there until 5:30 with nothing to do but order a drink. I noticed on the chalkboard on the wall that there were bottles of wine offered upwards of $100. Just my opinion,... More

Our best supper in Raleigh .... by far. Braised ribs were to die for. Pork shoulder a very close second. Shrimp and grits were goo but not outstanding. Well informed and friendly staff. We were lucky to walk in and go straight to a table (they don't take reservations and they were nearly full when we arrived). We've had a... More

Poole's Diner has never not met my expectations. The cool part is sitting at the semi-circle counters for a casual night of drinks and collection of appetizers, but the last time went we had a table for 7. The service was perfect! Poole's offers very unique dishes in every category, so we ate family style and ordered about everything, sharing... More
