Sushi is good and fair in value. The rolls are limited and seem to stick with a general theme... Spicy tuna, cream cheese. Something tempura.. I for one would prefer a more traditional roll selection.
Service system is horrible, ( not rude though)I have sat...in bar area unattended on many an occasion.
I also tried to engage with sushi chefs but to no avail. What makes it good is location and fresh fish. The restaurant is disorganized and could be very good with some system tweaks and implementation.More
A group of us dined here recently. We found the restaurant dark for lunch time and had trouble reading the menu. The lunch portions were good as was the food. The service was lacking though. Drink refills had to be asked for then still did...not get refilled. With more staff, this would be a great place to dine.More
I moved up to Raleigh from Holly Springs three years ago and have been searching for good sushi ever since. I tried Tokyo House, Waraji, Sushi One, Cowfish, Orchid, Mura and Kanki and was disappointed by all of them. I had given up. Then, craving...sushi this weekend, I decided to make one more attempt. I finally realized that I had missed trying Kai which is very close to where I live now. I don't know how or why I never realized they were there but boy I am glad I finally found them. The sushi wasn't just good ... it was great - some of the best I've ever had including at the airport in Tokyo. The prices for lunch are very reasonable. I started off with an A+B roll combo for $12. I ordered a Spicy Tuna roll and Crunchy Salmon roll (sub avocado for cucumber). Both were great. The Crunchy Salmon roll was a standout, simply awesome. We then tried a Spider Roll for $10. Still hungry and wanting to try more, we ordered a Teriyaki Beef bento box for $10. What a deal! It includes salad (great ginger dressing), plain white rice (surprisingly tasty), a 4 pc California roll, tempura (prawn and vegetables) and the beef with vegetables. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful. It tasted a hint of Korean which they offer as well. Overall, we were stunned by just how good the entire meal was. The restaurant itself is very clean, nicely decorated with tasteful music playing in the background. I can't wait to get back for lunch. I'd recommend you run (not walk) to this place for lunch. Just make sure and save at least one table for me!!!More
I’ve gone to Kai on quite a few occasions and they always seem to get it right. They have a solid menu and a good selection of sake. They also keep a ready supply of amberjack which is something that many of the other sushi...bars in the area don’t carry. That puts them in another category as far as I’m concerned due to my love of amberjack!
You can’t go wrong with this restaurant if you like sushi!More
Two choices of sushi roll (I had the basic Philadelphia roll and the upscaled Piano roll) plus a refilled drink for $14 is hard to beat. The Philly was just okay, but the Piano had terrific flavor melange with perfectly tempura-ed shrimp center, and spicy...wasabi mayo finish. It was plenty of meal for the lunch hour, the service was fast and attentive, and the value was excellent. Glad I gave it a try and will be back for more.More
Went with a party of 6, all who have had sushi in Japan. We all agreed the food is good, to great, service excellent and there. Is parking. It is a bit loud and maybe a better place for a date. I would think if...you look around you might do better but this is a good start.More
