About
Right in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Bida Manda is a thoughtful and sharp gathering place celebrating the diverse food and culture of Laos. Bida Manda is one of the very first Laotian restaurants in the US. Sanskrit for father and mother, we name the restaurant Bida Manda as our way of honoring our parents in Laos who taught us everything we know about food, hospitality, and the power it has in bringing people together. Our parents' recipes are the inspiration for our menu. Every dish on our menu is exactly what we grew up eating. They are the kind of dishes you might find on the street corners of Luang Prabang and at a Laotian home. Come in and go away with us on sensational culinary

Service is nothing to write home about, and a roach scurried past my feet. Needless to say this place is disgusting and I can't recommend in good conscience ever setting foot in it.

We had a lovely visit, all the food we had was delicious, and attentive staff, but our waiter forgot to put one of our entrees in, and when we reminded him, the kitchen was closed! They were very nice to comp us dessert and an...appetizer, but then again forgot to take it out of the bill. They said they corrected the mistake, but we will find out in a few days whether the credit card will get refunded. These are all attention mistakes, our waiter was super nice, but I think writing down orders is a “must”! I came to the restaurant specifically to try the dish which got forgotten. We are foodies and I take great care to research any place we go to eat at. Since we were just passing through town, not sure if I will have a chance to go back to try.More

My family and I visited Bida Manda today to celebrate my son’s birthday. This was our first time visiting. My son saw some great reviews online so we decided on this restaurant for our celebration. We were greeted with courtesy and professionalism from the moment...we arrived. Although we are still in a pandemic, we felt safe and comfortable. The atmosphere was warm and made us feel as if we were among family and friends. Our server, John, was exceptional!!!! He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and humorous. He paid attention to the details and had great customer service skills. He took great care of us and ensured that our food and drinks were brought out in a timely fashion. Great guy! We were mesmerized by the quality, taste, and display of the food. Every single item ordered was exquisite! The appearance was intriguing. The food was cooked perfectly! All items had the right balance of moisture, texture, and flavor. The unique combination of the herbs and spices brought all dishes to life, and certain dishes just melted in your mouth. Everything was scrumptious! To say that we had an overall exceedingly wonderful experience is an understatement. I highly recommend this restaurant. John, we will see you again soon.More

We attended dinner at Bida Manda for our second anniversary. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. They start by bringing out some complimentary shrimp chips, which were really pleasant. Our waiter recommended the lettuce wraps as an appetizer and they...were hands down the best dish of the night... I’m not usually a lettuce wrap kind of guy either. We split the Manda Herb Salad with chicken and Tom Khem (short ribs and pork belly) and they balanced each other nicely. The short ribs were a little dry, but the gravy and fatty pork belly balanced them out well and they tasted delicious. The salad was really nicely balanced. The food is about $20 per entree, but we have enough leftovers for both of our lunches tomorrow, so the value is good for the price. After the waiter packed up our food, he brought us some complimentary macarons to celebrate our anniversary. They were the best macarons we’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Paris. To cleanse our palates at the end of the meal, they served us each a small shot of lemon juice, lime juice, and ginger, which was a great way to wrap up the wonderful experience. We’re moving soon, but if we’re ever in town again, we’ll be revisiting Bida Manda for sure.More

This was truly a fantastic dining experience. My husband and I went there for Lunch and sat at the bar. We ordered the crispy springs rolls with pork and spicy habanero wings with peanut sauce for appetizers. The spring rolls were the best that I...have had, and the wings were delicious and very spicy even with the peanut sauce. If you love heat, you will love them. For our entrees, I had the Pho with beef and husband had the green papaya salad with steak. I have had some very good Pho in my life, but this was hands down the best Pho that I have had in a very long time. The broth was so tasty and there was something differently delicious abut the noodles. My husband loved his meal very much also. Finally, our dessert was the Trio Plate, and all were exceptional. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we will are definitely going back.More

Reservations were a plus, for this dimly-lit, intimate downtown find! The menu offers a full array for all appetites. The cashew chicken did not disappoint, nor did the three appetizers for the table. The server as delightful and welcoming! Get the sampling of desserts if...room allows. There is something for all!More

When I went it was a young, hip, casual crowd. Nice won't stand out but fancy or formal will be out of place.
